Are all better imo. Most people you mentioned are nobodies or rookies. Downgraded at de,mlb,cb. No dt or lb depth.
And they all have holes in their rosters, too.

Great teams don't exist anymore. Free agency rips them apart.

It's hard to take you seriously when you call guys like Mayowa "significant" players. He's a Raiders cast off.

Like Carson Palmer? Like Darren McFadden? Like Randy Moss? Like Charles Woodson?

Like Dwayne Harris? Like Jason Hatcher?Like Denarcus Ware? Like Bruce Carter?

There are reasons teams let players go off all levels.

Mayowa is considered a promising young player.

Agree. But their is fancies that are consistent.

The defense would have to get a ton of turnovers to even have a chance at a run.

Stephen, stuff it. Jerry, just go drown yourself in Blue and stay out of the football room.

I don't want to hear about financial responsibility and cap space right now. Save me from the intellectual football gibberish about asset allocation and fungibility.

We need defensive ends. And we need them now. There are two solutions right in front of you.

Call Seattle and trade for Michael Bennett. Then sign him. Then, call Dwight Freeney. Sign him, too.

Three consecutive 2nd round picks have amassed Cheech and Chong and a risky futures bet. Meanwhile, a band of gypsies will wander on the field against the Giants in two months with a long season ahead.

A pass rush would cure oh so much.

Good post, funny.
how about
"Three consecutive 2nd round picks have amassed Chester,Cheech and Chong "
*(Chester is from the old gunsmoke).

Why? The team is considered the most valuable franchise in all of sports. To ownership, that's called "winning." And they're doing it despite putting a bad product on the field year after year after year. Do you realize my hometown baseball team, the Colorado Rockies, has had more playoff success than the Cowboys in the last twenty years? And this is a team that willfully keeps costs low, going so far as to hire a high school coach to be their manager.

Let that sink in. This team is pathetic. And we are even more pathetic for continuing to buy this sham of a product.

I prefer to think of him as "pre Festus"

No offense but to me the most amazing thing about your post here is that 13 people on here liked the idea. What you are proposing is akin to throwing good money at bad money. No reason to double down here and continue to get desperate and screw up the future even more. Its much more prudent to accept the current position and develop a consistent and core strategy to win long term. What you are proposing is the EXACT attitude that has kept us middling since the 90's.

This team is clearly 3 pro bowlers on D, another 3 legitimate starters on D and a very good backup QB away from truly having the capability to be a contender year in and year out. And that would only depend on Romo only missing a few games. The problem long term for the Cowboys goes beyond Jones ability to get those starters on D. But by the time he gets there, if he gets there, Romo wont be much of a viable QB most likely. So then we have to start over there.

Hardy going to the Commanders helps us more than if he actually signed with us.

I assume you mean by wrecking their locker room??

I'm sure he was bad, but who can blame him. We lost our two top studs that make the engine go, and went 4-12. Meanwhile his old team went what 15-1 and to the SB. I might be a little negative myself!

LOL.

Mayowa is a former UDFA who is a total project that has shown little in his NFL career to date. Calling a guy that we have no idea whatsoever about his skill set and ability to perform in the NFL as being a "significant" signing is laughable. We must have different definitions of "significant". Mayowa may end up being that diamond in the rough. But until he actually shows something, calling him a major impact signing is quite a stretch at this point.

Shoot, if Mayowa is a "significant" signing then signing Thornton was the greatest free agent signing of all time.

We got junky DEs. We have a junky Defense.

There where players out there that could have helped, but we said no..we have a bunch of unproven practice squad homies and NFL no names that we want to have a shot. We want to recapture the 2014 magic where we skated by Detroit and then lost to one legged Rodgers. Doesn't seem like we are planning on a Super Bowl run.

After a playoff loss a couple of years ago, John Elway began to assemble one of the NFLs most potent and devastating defenses. In a matter of two off seasons he completed his task and won the Super Bowl with a run down Payton Manning at qb.

There are several articles out there that detail how John Elway rebuilt his defense- I'm sure there will be a couple that argue " naw that foo didn't do it all in two off seasons". That's cool believe what you want, read the articles. If you still don't believe, hey it's all good. To each their own

I'd suffer a decade of 4-11 seasons if we could have a super bowl win next year

Wow, this is just another post that makes completely no sense to me. My thinking is completely the other way around. I would suffer a few more 4-11 seasons so that I could be a legitimate contender for the next 6 years after that.

You have to get over the Romo era my man. INot because of Romo, but because of Jerry. Now if we go broke like Jerry continues to do each year we may make the playoffs a few times and win a playoff game here or there, but we arent winning the SB. Not with this defense. And by going broke every year we are mortgaging the future. Instead of drafting a possible pro bowl corner that could elevate your defense for the next 10 year you take a RB that will do it for the next 5. Ect......ect.......ect..........

Significant players? Romo is another year older. Scandrick hasn't played in a year and is a slot corner. Thornton is significant, but Mayowa, Tapper, the Collins, and Jones are all huge wildcards.

I keep forgetting about Ole Tapper. We really need some quality snaps from him

I am a big fan of that pick. He actually might be my favorite pick of their entire draft. But given how rookie DEs often don't make big impacts, this might a tough spot for Tapper to be thrust into.

Benson coming off the knee, Tapper and Russel have a shot to start at the 7 technique for the first few games

They really like Mayowa. They had to compete with other teams to get him, so they had to pay a bit more.

I understand that "significant" might not be the best word for him, but I listed several players that were acquired. I'm not sure one word would apply perfectly for them all.

They REALLY wanted him. They think he's promising, and that all he needs is a chance. Oakland doesn't have our defensive end issues, so he got rat-holed there.
