"Come see the Sporting News overrate Ken Hamlin" Would also have been an appropriate title for this thread. :)

Why the f*** do many in here bash Ken Hamlin? All he ever did since signing with the Cowboys is upgrade our last line of defense.

Who was saying he was overrated after Hamlin intercepted a pass, or busted up a play? I for one hope Jerry Jones signs Hamlin to a long term deal.

Putting Roy Williams at #5 is a joke. I still believe we should have taken Josh Barrett with that last pick, instead of Eric Walden. Walden was ranked the 58th best OLB in the draft by PFW.

Barrett was ranked #3 among SSs, but was in a virtual tie for #2 with Tyrell Johnson. Denver made out big time by picking Barrett with the 220th pick in the 7th rd.

The only reason I can see that Barrett slipped so far in the draft is that there was a rumor that he pouted his entire senior year because he didn't get along with new HC Dennis Erickson. I guess no one accounted for the strained pectoral muscle & quad contusion he was hampered with for most of the season. I doubt his teammates would have named him team captain, and given him the "Hard Hat Player" award for his work in the off-season if he was a slacker.

It blows me away that Dallas would risk 1st & 5th rd. picks for prima donnas Jenkins & Scandrick, and then take a pass at a player with the most phenomenal 40 yd. dash numbers at the Combine in the 6th rd. (Barrett is 6-2, 225 & ran the 40 at an amazing 4.36!)

When Roy boy takes off after this season, or worse, gets cut before it even begins, it sure would have been nice to have a player waiting in the wings with Barrett's talent.

Who the hell is Barrett? Who cares if the Donkey's drafted Barrett out of the 7th round? He went in the 7th for a reason. The Cowboys didn't need a SS. Hate to break it to all of you Roy haters out there, but Dallas has yet to give up on Roy! And so have I!!

By the way, love how you have already labeled Jenkins and Scandrick as pri madonnas, and yet drool over the 220th pick.

Two out of the top five and our groups is only #2? Is Darren Shaper *that* much better than anyone else?

That is exactly what I was thinking, how do we have two of the top five, but are still ranked below the vikings as a unit?

He was pretty bad in all respects in that first game. But it was his first game in a new defense on a new team. Obviously that first game wasnt representative of his ply for the season.

so then your under the assumption

A he didn't miss any more tackles for the rest of the season ( ObV false)
B he didn't miss 3 tackles in one game like he did against the giants

however you want to slice it his play was average at best he got hype for 2 reason

1 the cowboys were 13-3
2 he was the best FS since Woodson (that aint saying much IMO)

but hey take it for what you want if we give him the big bucks we would be more let down that a lil bit. Well i wouldn't be let down however who thinks he should get paid top money will be let down.

Better yet, take a look at what PFW lists as Barrett's negatives. Keep in mind that PFW is the publication that Cogan uses to bash Walden for being their 58th ranked OLB.

PFW says: "The Concerns: Played sporadically and was benched early in senior year. Shut it down at times. Questionable passion and desire. Turned down contact, bounced off ballcarriers and generally played without passion. Needs to play more disciplined. Durability is a minor concern."

Plus, he didn't play well as a senior because, as Cogan said in his post... he didn't like his new coach?

Nice. :banghead:

Those are the negatives of a pure, 100% USDA primadonna.

IMHO those are the worst kind of negatives you can see on a rookie coming into the NFL. They questioned his passion, desire toughness and discipline. Shut it down at times? I mean, just go ahead and label the guy a quitter.

That is exactly why a guy as physically talented as him went almost undrafted. Who want's a safety that is afraid of contact, pouts, has no toughness and is a quitter?

Besides, Cogan, I mean.

Why would anyone be uspet we didn't add this dip**** to our team?

Cogan, no offense man, but if you're going to listen to PFW about OLB's... you need to pay attention to them when they say your pet cat is a schmuck.

Somehow, I don't think Barrett would make us forget about anyone next year. He has the heart of a field mouse.

What, suddenly it's hard to swallow that we should have cut Roy Williams and replaced him with Josh Barrett?

The class of Safeties in the NFC is weak as a whole.

Atari Bigby, LaRon Landry and O.J. Atogwe were all more deserving than Roy of the #5 spot if it's based on last season. And Dawkins would get it over Roy in my book as well just based on his 'football know how'.

Baby Jesus told Hamlin to take bad angles and miss some tackles.

When he read "thou shalt not covet" he thought it said "thou shalt not cover"

Both of our safeties played in the probowl...of course they were rated near the top of the NFC...where else would you rate them after probowl years?

As for the Leron Landry question, we'd take him based on ability, youth, and future upside, but he played FS last year, not SS, so he doesn't get compared to Roy, but to Hamlin.

At least Bigby brought the wood a few times last season.

2007 stat sheet.

Bigby - Started 16 games; 66 solo tackles; 3 Forced Fumbles; 5 Int's; 9 Passes defended; 4 Tackles for losses; and at least 3 big hits.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8UL77dK5JY

Roy - Started 13 games; 73 solo tackles; 0 Forced Fumbles; 2 Int's; 5 Passes defended; 0 Tackles for losses; and sadly I can only remember one big hit for Roy, and it wasn't even that big of a hit, which came against the Packers.

Who's :laugh2: now?

Who's laughing now?

Packer fans, actually.

I live in Milwaukee. And most were pretty upset with his play week in; week out. I'd go to a bar and those who were screaming for him to be replaced vastly outnumbered those who were pleased with his play.

And I saw more Packer games than I cared for. Bigby wasn't anything special.

Were there more fans in GB hating on Atari than there were Cowboys fans around the world hating on Roy is the question?
:lmao2:

I am not saying Bigby is Ronnie Lott here bro, but he did have a nice season and IMO he would be more deserving of that #5 spot than Roy on the SN list.

No clue.

But I can tell you without a doubt, the Packer fans I encounter, are pretty opinionated on Bigby.

And it aint good.

As in, they wanted Rouse playing instead of Bigby.

I wasn't bashing Hamlin, just bringing up what I consider are significant flaws in his performance last season. Maybe I lack the perspective to know that even with those flaws, he still played better than almost every safety in the NFC. I don't know. Second just seems a bit high to me.

You can't be serious. The guy is terrible. Easily one of the worst safeties in the league.

LaRon played SS while Sean was still playing. Then we tried Reed Doughty at FS and that, how should I put it, didn't work quite as well as we were hoping (see:first Dallas game). Then we switched Reed to SS where he played surprisingly solidly and moved LeRon to FS. Overall, I think LaRon played more SS, but he will be a FS next year.
