So basically all the top QB's would be paid the same.
Theirs levels to this, you don't get more than a Mahomes he's on a different level, then theirs levels under that (just examples!!)who will get paid less than the top guy, their won't be any exceeding and resetting the market
1. Mahomes
1 (a) Allen
(b) Burrow
(c) Dak

Sounds about right...

The order seems right to me. Tua and Dak have shown regular season sucess and those guys really shouldn't be in the conversation with Lawrence and Love whose resumes are either underwhelming or just too short

As long as the cap continues to increase, the qb salaries will be problematic for teams

When a player is in the drivers seat, contractually, like Dak is, there's zero risk of helping a once busted Qb.....

Zero threat
Zero competition
Zero proven ability.

Thanks for not having true competition at the qb position for a quarter century, Jerry.

Everyone wants to limit how much players make ........ why not limit what the owners make?

Ya know ........ since we want to decide how much someone can make.

I'm all for the free market and if there was no cap, it would be crazy to care what any player makes.....but because the cap is the decider in teams rosters, we look at how their pay impacts the rest of the roster

For me it's never on a personal basis.......I'm all for every person getting paid what they are worth.

The one thing I do like about the billionaire owners is that their investments trickle all the way down from the millionaire players down to the mom&pop businesses near the stadiums

Because their costs don't affect the salary cap, it's just like the coaches contracts and their deals not affecting the cap!

Oh I've said this a lot of times, the MERE thought of QB controversy bothers Jerry immensely, once he found the QB of the future, they don't want to mess with that ever!! lol

I don't think any of those guys are worth those projected amounts.

Jordan Love might be worth it next season if he has a great 2024 season, but not after one season of starting.

I won't be surprised if we start seeing more and more teams start moving on from most quarterbacks after their rookie contracts.

Many NFL quarterbacks (all positions really) are not worth tying up that much cap space when they are an injury away from being done for the season.

At some point, when a player requires you invest more than 15% of the salary cap in them, it makes more sense to throw numbers at the position rather than gamble that 1) the player will perform as or better than expected and 2) they will avoid injuries and be able to play at their expected level all season.
I’ve said for some time that the NFL is moving more towards the college game. Schools churn rosters every 3 - 4 years, including QB. There are no 8 year starting QB in college. The big difference is the amount of revenue and CBA that requires NFL teams to spend on rosters. But that is on the roster as a whole.

The market is determined by supply and demand and the salary cap. That’s never going to change. And QBs will always make up the greatest portion of that cap per team. The point is to have the football discernment to pay a QB who has enough talent and the mental fortitude to win a SB and doesn’t need everything around him to be perfect and/or great to do so instead of hanging onto him for too long.

Mahomes is schedule to make $66M in 2025, $68M in 2026, $64M in 2027.
Those are his CAP numbers, not what he is making. In 2024 the Chiefs will give him $18 million in Salary, Bonus and workout bonus. Next year they will pay him $50 million. In 2026 they will pay him $57 million and in 2027 they will pay him $53 million. If they restructure him again he cold get more money up front at some point. The net is, he will average $45 million per year over 10 years. Over the same period, Dak will earn more money than Mahomes.

Didn't Goff just get $53 million? That sets the floor for Dak's contract. But I believe he will ask for $60 million based on the $40 million he asked for last time.

If Dak wants $50.3 million for 4 years, I would sign him in a minute.

That's probably what he's asking for but somehow someone is creating a narrative by saying he wants 60 million

Yeah when I look at how Spotrac is actually coming up with these numbers it's not serious analysis at all. They're taking 4 comparable QBs and comparing them with their contracts plus pretty basic stats like yards, TDs, INTs per game. Compared to the other QBs there they are showing Dak as about 3% worse on average than the combo of Burrow/Herbert/Love/Jackson.Then they also dock Dak for his age, assuming a post age 30 decline. I also don't think they are adjusting for new cap numbers.

Realistically I think you're spot on and Dak is looking for $60M. That should be the going rate for a top 5 QB based on the cap increase.

So who are you looking at to be such a SB quality QB worth going after and paying?
