So like i said,

Willis: 5 year, 50 million extension.. 10 million a year.

Lee: 6 year, 42 million extension.. 7 million a year (possibly 8.5 million a year if he stays healthy and meets some requirements)

So yea.. Willis got more, even with his extension coming 3 years ago.

Willis isn't making 10 million a year.

I'm sorry, but if you can't appreciate the massive distinction between Lee's contract and a contract signed three years ago with far, far more guarantee money, then you really don't understand how NFL contracts work.

How much is Lee guaranteed? You don't know. None of us outside of the organization know. I am simply saying he is making Patrick Willis money, which he is.

If we waited and he had a great year, we'd be talking a bigger deal for sure. This is only a dumb deal if Lee doesn't play well or is hurt. If we see the player we have over the past few years, this is going to end up being a steal.

Not to mention signing him now offers cap relief for next year.

Which you just said nobody outside of the organization knows....

Irony? Or hypocrisy?

I didn't even bother. Jimmy already solved the mystery.

So, as I said, Lee is making Patrick Willis type money.
I'm sorry, but what? Not what I said, at all. Let's walk through this.

Willis' rookie contract was set to expire after 2011.
In May 2010, Willis signed a 5-year $50 million dollar extension covering the years 2012-2016. That's $10 million dollars a year for those 5 years.
At that point, his entire contract, covering 2010-2016 (7 years) was worth around $53 million, because his rookie contract wasn't that pricy.
Oh, and the extension came with $29 million guaranteed.

Lee signed a 6-year extension, if I understand this right, that will cover the years 2014-2019 (he's in the last year of his rookie contract). That extension is worth $7M (and possibly up to $8.5M) per year, much less than what Willis got. Also, it includes only $16 million guaranteed, much less than Willis got.

Sean Lee is not making Patrick Willis money. At all.

Not really. Unused cap space would roll over to 2014, so the timing doesn't really matter in that manner.

The only way we get cap relief is if we assume that he would have been franchised

So it was neither irony, nor hypocrisy from CyberBob- just blither-blather.

Duly noted...

Goodness, thank you. This isn't that hard I understand.

Signing Bonus and Guaranteed Money are the two biggies and both appear to very low. That makes getting out of the contract easier, but it makes the cap hit higher. With a player like Lee it makes sense to guarantee less because they can always convert his base salaries to signing bonuses when they need cap space.
