Lee’s deal will pay him $7 million per year with playtime escalators that could net him as much as $8.5 million per year. In total, Lee could make a maximum of approximately $51 million. He will also receive a $10 million signing bonus and the $16.15 million awarded over the first two years of the extension will be fully guaranteed. And that number could potentially increase to $20.15 million.

Good for both parties.

I'm sorry, but if you can't appreciate the massive distinction between Lee's contract and a contract signed three years ago with far, far more guarantee money, then you really don't understand how NFL contracts work.

After watching several plays where at the end there was a pileup and Lee just had to run up and hit the pile because
Well... because it was there! Someone was getting hit!
That's a football player.

Huge step towards the future stability of this team. Still have a lot left to do though.

Bryant, Carter, Bailey, Smith, Claiborne... we have our work cut out for us. There will have to been a concerted effort to move on from certain players like Ratliff, Austin, Scandrick, Spencer... we're going to have to get a lot cheaper on the defensive line.

This should be HUGE motivation to guys like Carter, Bryant and Smith...they see Lee getting paid and a huge year by this other trio could mean that it will be their turn to get paid

great timing by the FO...this HAS to send a message to the other young studs on the team

It's a really smart contract, and doesn't actually lock the Cowboys in if things don't work out. There is plenty of space in the contract to mitigate the costs and divert it to other years.

Only got 10 million dollar signing bonus, across 6 years. Patrick Willis got more money for less time and a larger signing bonus.

Have to congratulate the front office on deals recently. They've been much smarter.

The thing about that is, the dude plays one of the hardest positions on the field. And he does it with bad intentions...old school, so there is a chance that he might get injured, but that is a chance you take at that kind of money.

All football players get injured at one time or another.

Agreed, Lee was injured last year, but only missed 3 games in his first 2 years at a position that takes a beating.

Unfortunately for us, Dez is going to cost us 13-15 million a year... Ultimately we might be better of trading a player like Dez as it concerns financing.

You look at teams that have that much money concentrated on a single wide receiver, and it doesn't translate well to wins.

Again, it all really depends on how cheap we can replace some of these veteran players.

We had to extend his contract.

Whether or not it will pay off is tbd.

Here's hoping he stays healthy this season!!!!

Dan Bailey will command at least 3 million dollars per year. Which is a huge jump in pay for him. We're in for some really rough sledding. Which is an advantage of good scouting and a disadvantage of not being able to win over the last couple years. We get no value out of these expensive vets, and are forced to cut them at huge loss or to pay them and not get value for their production.

It's a huge conundrum made worse by the decision to franchise Spencer.

How does the decision to franchise Spencer matter one bit? He's off the books at the end of the year.
