Seeing the numbers makes it look at least fair to both sides.

It is clear this was an amicable deal that both sides wanted to get done and done right. That is a rarity.

Now, this brings us to Dez Bryant. Just thinking about the money in that is frightening.

Bottomline is just forget about free agency for a while.

Yes I do. 16 mil, about half of what Willis got. Now, don't you feel silly?

I remember when the Roy Williams (WR) trade news broke, it was being reported that we got him for a 2nd round pick and it ended up being our first. You don't know what the guaranteed amount is yet.

Absolutely! I love this deal more and more!

As for Lee's health, he's got to stay healthy sometime.

The thing about that is, the dude plays one of the hardest positions on the field. And he does it with bad intentions...old school, so there is a chance that he might get injured, but that is a chance you take at that kind of money.

All football players get injured at one time or another.

We must dump Austin's contract before visiting his. We can't have two contracts for 120 mill for two WR's.
Enter Mr. Williams.

I'm sorry, but what? Not what I said, at all. Let's walk through this.

Willis' rookie contract was set to expire after 2011.
In May 2010, Willis signed a 5-year $50 million dollar extension covering the years 2012-2016. That's $10 million dollars a year for those 5 years.
At that point, his entire contract, covering 2010-2016 (7 years) was worth around $53 million, because his rookie contract wasn't that pricy.
Oh, and the extension came with $29 million guaranteed.

Lee signed a 6-year extension, if I understand this right, that will cover the years 2014-2019 (he's in the last year of his rookie contract). That extension is worth $7M (and possibly up to $8.5M) per year, much less than what Willis got. Also, it includes only $16 million guaranteed, much less than Willis got.

Sean Lee is not making Patrick Willis money. At all.

excellent breakdown, old money/new money.
Thanks

One of the better deals the Cowboys have done in years. More evidence the landscape is changing for the good.

Aside from the guaranteed money, your statements seem to contradict each other.

Yours do as well.
Why didn't you reply to my earlier comment?
It's not like you didn't read it...

Sorry: I'm not seeing the contradiction in the bits you quoted. Lee is getting Bowman/Brooks money, not Willis money.

It was only last week that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said linebacker Sean Lee was at the top of the team’s to-do list for a contract extension. It’s now done.

Lee agreed to a six-year, $42 million extension with a $10 million signing bonus on Wednesday, according to a source. The contract runs through 2019 and could be worth as much as $51 million with incentives.

Lee had two years remaining on his rookie deal with cash values of $1.06 million this year and $676,000 next.

Lee, 27, was a second-round draft choice in 2010. He has 253 tackles, seven interceptions and two forced fumbles in three seasons.

He has become a team leader and is expected to excel in the Tampa 2 scheme of Monte Kiffin.

But Lee has yet to play 16 games in a season. He missed 10 games last season with an injury to his right big toe, was out one game in 2011 with a partially dislocated wrist that required a protective cast for much of the season, and in 2010, he missed two games with a hamstring strain.
