One of the better deals the Cowboys have done in years. More evidence the landscape is changing for the good.

More evidence?

I would say it is among the first glimmers of light at the end of the tunnel.

We just franchised Spencer for the second straight year and are intent on paying Jay Ratliff huge money and he has not even practiced yet.

This is one of the few deals we seem to have done right, or at least attempted to do right, in recent memory.

How does the decision to franchise Spencer matter one bit? He's off the books at the end of the year.

The salary cap doesn't work like that. While he is off the books, he still cost us 10 million this year. Money that could have gone towards other the players who are about to be paid in the future. Franchising him doesn't simply effect this year.

Unfortunately for us, Dez is going to cost us 13-15 million a year... Ultimately we might be better of trading a player like Dez as it concerns financing.

You look at teams that have that much money concentrated on a single wide receiver, and it doesn't translate well to wins.

Again, it all really depends on how cheap we can replace some of these veteran players.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but this place will go nuclear if Dez is traded for anything less than a boatload.

Willis isn't making 10 million a year.

How much is Lee guaranteed? You don't know. None of us outside of the organization know. I am simply saying he is making Patrick Willis money, which he is.

I mean what does it matter??

Willis money? What should we do? Panic? Is it our money to go crazy over now?

Be glad we tied up an actual good player on this team. Do the panicking and crying in your bathroom with the door closed.

Ahh.. we should have known years ago when we extended Ratliff that he would be too hurt to even practice during the preseason in 2013.

Also would like to throw in that i feel like Carter is one season away from us talking about him in the same light. I really hope he breaks out this year, he seems to have all the physical tools to be a beast at WLB.

I think you're right, the combo of Lee/Carter is scary good. The way our defense is turning out is what keeps me from worrying too much over our oline, after all Chicago got to the Superbowl with Rex Grossman for crying out loud

Ratliff's base salary is 1.34 million this year. His cap hit is 4 million. Certainly not huge money. He'll be a June 1st cut next year.

I would be one of the one's to go nuclear if we traded Dez. Talents like him don't come along very often. Now that he's truly learning the offense, if we can get the rest of the team playing decent, he is talented enough to carry the offense deep into the postseason.

You don't trade away one of the most dynamic playmakers in the NFL because he's going to cost a lot because he's so special.

..and even our OL has shown signs of improvement when we've had the starters healthy and playing together. They've given Romo pretty good time in the pocket.

Great news! Sean Lee and Dez are my two favorite Cowboys as it stands. Congrats Sean! Now let's go get that Lombardi!

Well my point is that you could probably get a boatload by trading him. Probably 2 first round draft picks and a 2nd round draft pick. Which is a huge improvement over the 24th pick we used to draft him. Or we could sink an extreme percentage of our salary cap into him.

Dez is one of my favorite players, but I think it would make more sense to trade him, use one of the picks we get to address wide receiver, and use some of these other young guys we've been developing.

The fact of the matter is, you can't afford all of these players, and the players who you can't afford still have value, and that value should be maximized. I think getting an offensive and defensive line set for the future is more important than having Dez Bryant. But that is just me.

How is Megatron doing with the Lions? The Patriots have been successful in this league because they don't overpay many players. They trade them and maximize their value. A lot of Cowboys fans have never been able to understand this and like Jerry they get too attached to individual players.

Ware $10m, Lee $8m, Carr $10m... That's 1/5 of the entire cap on 3 guys.... will they have to sign Carter to an equal contract?

Are you that desperate to prove a point?

Step away from the computer.

Pathetic

Was that desperate?

It took me literally 2 minutes to google search, find, and copy those url's. It pays to know how to use da internetz for things other than trying to be an ITG on all your favorite fan forums.

I may disagree with you, but I'm not going to argue your point.
The fact of the matter is- if someone is willing to pull a Herschel Walker or Ricky Williams deal for him....

I would look long and hard at that.

Otherwise, he is an extremely valuable player- even beyond gameday.

This is my point exactly. You just can't do it. If you're going to be paying veterans this much, you have to be hitting really well in the draft, which usually only happens if you're trading veterans for better draft picks, and moving to get the best players in the draft.

Yeah took you 2 minutes, sure.

To much time on your hands.

"oh no, Lee is not making Willis money! I can prove it, check these links, and there are more"

I mean why? Put the computer to sleep, there is sunlight to see, and fresh air to breathe.
