Stephen wasn't being too accurate. Norman's deal has only $36.5m guaranteed in first 2 years. Team option in 3rd year when Norman is 30. Man wouldn't we all like to have him at that price and cut Carr's $11m this year? SMH at this FO this offseason.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what the hell has Norman done to deserve that kind of $$? The only guy I EVER saw perform for every team he played for was Deion, and Norman is no Deion. Norman will definitely benefit from a pretty good Skins D but lets not act like he'd be just as good on a team with a crappy D. Deion could hold his own no matter where he played. Norman had one good year on a team with a very good D.....

Carr makes 9m this year. You want to spend 4x that price for 2 years? And then if you want to cut him at age 30 you take a 9m dead money charge.

This is just not smart thinking.

OK, so 3 years for $51M. And yes, I would have done that to cut Carr. A CB like Norman changes the entire defense. Unfortunately, we'll see that twice a year now...

they aren't going to drop him after 3 years automatically....he will only be due 24m over the last 2 years, none of it guaranteed....

I can't believe what the market is for DBs. Especially when stud DL are more effective against preventing the pass.

even with Norman at 20m and Culliver at 9m the Skins are 40m under the cap next year

they have to sign Cousins and Reed but that is it

Despite the history of all running backs that tske on the kind of workload having huge dropoffs the following year, im sure it was the scheme that did Murray in. Of course it was, precedent be damned.

that history was the RB with the same team the next year.
And partly that is due to teams giving them less carries the next year.
Even JG said if murray stayed he would not get that many carries again.

Yes and twice on Sunday

Carr is the 80th ranked CB and is getting 9.1m this year
Norman is the top rated CB and is getting 8m this year(19m next year but that will be restructured)

I think Norman is a bit of a diva after his good year, and do you really think he would still be
good here in dallas with marinelli, and the Def players we have??

Different team coaches and players, he wont be as good, the only way for him to be as good in 2016
would have been to stay in Carolina.

Also if you Take Carr and put him in carolina, he might have an all pro year too.

This isn't your father's NFL. The salary cap is up to 160m for the Skins this year.

ps- I think he plays the full 5 years because of the way the contract is front loaded. The last 2 years are for 24m.

I am aware, I am an oldie myself (53)...but, making him the highest paid CB for two years when he is 28, just because you can? hmmm, not my cup of tea...I like the guy, just not $36m like

keep in mind the guy signing off on this is a billionaire, and these football teams, the tv contracts pay
for the cap, so it isnt even out of pocket for the owners.

As I have said, taking a star player and putting them with different coaches, players , and scheme,
usually does not get expected results.
Also it is stupid if Commanders are not strong enough to make a run in playoffs.

To me a deal like this is for a team who just needs that one piece to be a contender.
Commanders need quite a few pieces.

the Commanders have done "flashy" for quite a few years and they have sucked as a result...imo, they backed into the playoffs last year by default as the rest of the division imploded

I LOVE the new approach to FA by the Cowboys. Build through the draft!

Someone's signature on this site reminds us of a quote by Stephen Jones in which he says anyone making a comment about having enough room under the cap for this or that doesn't really understand the cap.

So if that is true. then why is this player's salary requirements causing discomfort?

Well yeah but still they were the best team in east last year lol which isnt saying much.
They have a decent team but are lacking in many areas, so signing a guy like norman isnt smart
at this point in time.
miami payed big for suh and what 8-8 or less, it wasnt the right time to sign a big $ guy.
