Stephen Jones thread

As much as I loathe Linehan and Garrett, no HC or OC in the league can make the worst QB in the league look servicable. We’ve seen hours of game footage that shows receivers are open and plays are being left on the field

Whose choice was it to go with this QB?
Who has coached this QB for the last 3 years?
Who has stuck with this QB despite seeing him in games AND in camp and weekly practice for 3 years?

At some point we have to stop with the excuses and point the finger where it belongs

THE HC IS GARBAGE

Pros

-Drafted Martin over Manziel
-Has given the power back to his scouts and drafts have been moderately better
-Has managed the cap well
-Is responsible for the youth movement in this team

Cons

-Released DeMarcus Ware (who eventually won a super bowl) and
made it clear he wanted to stay and restructure

-Refused to Pay DeMarco Murray (could go either way)

-His decision along with Garrett to go Dak over Romo. Jerry wanted to
give Romo the reigns back

-Was they key figure, along with Linnehan, to get rid of Dez Bryant

-Virtually made no effort to build key weapons in free agency or via trade

These are things we know! How would you rate him so far. Personally, I'm not convinced he's better than Jerry. Jerry at least took risk in trying to build a football team. Jones plays it very close to the chest.
If a con is he refused to pay Murray. Is paying Dez a pro or con? He has to be tied to both since he is the contact/salary guy.

He is good at the cap. He has no business being a GM...just like his dad. With no fear of ever losing your job...you are bound to be average to terrible. No incentive to be good.

Cowboys are in trouble for a long time as long as JJ/SJ are still alive.

Dak is absolutely awful right now but we have seen this guy play clean efficient football with a nack for making big plays at critical times.

After Kansas City last year that guy has disappeared. Where is he? Where is that Dak Prescott?

I refuse to believe the guy we saw for 20 something games to start his career is just gone now and we are left with what he is now.

he has said he would not be the gm. he will appoint one. probably will mcclay.

The NFL is about making money. In that regard, the Joneses are successful NFL owners/executives.

RGIII all over again. The league has figured him out.

How can you give him credit for doing a good job managing the salary cap, and then take it away for not paying Murray like the Eagles did? Managing the salary cap means making those kinds of hard decisions.

As for the decision to go with Dak, I understand the argument for Romo, but it's not fair to ignore the argument for Dak at the time. The team was on a roll with Dak, having the best record in the NFL, and Romo had been injured 3 of the last 5 times he had played. Many fans will and do say that a team can't keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results. Well, the team decided not to keep doing the same thing over and over, and now fans are complaining. Don't judge this with hindsight, judge it in the context of the time in which the decision had to be made.

The one true negative on Stephen is that he has gone overly conservative in his effort to manage the salary cap. We saw some effort to change that this year with the pursuit of Sammy Watkins and Earl Thomas, but he has to find a way to make at least an occasional high impact acquisition.

Cons

-Released DeMarcus Ware (who eventually won a super bowl) and
made it clear he wanted to stay and restructure-Umm Ware won a SB-his team won a SB and he was on it..he was till pretty good but also a health liability..he was on a Line with one of the best Pass rushers pushing for the other side..sucked to see him go but it was the correct move

-Refused to Pay DeMarco Murray (could go either way)-he was worn out already had few good years but really you have bad memory, they offered him affair contract in which he turned down for 1 more year that Chip offered him..howd that work out..SJ offered him a solid fair contract..

-His decision along with Garrett to go Dak over Romo. Jerry wanted to
give Romo the reigns back for 2017 ..in true competition he most likely would have won, i would have like room for another year or two maybe it would have helped Dak but he now would be retired anyway..

-Was they key figure, along with Linnehan, to get rid of Dez Bryant- this again? Dez was declining making ton of money, off injured, and really could he help that much anyway? did you see 2017? I guess they should have offered him less money but he turned down what he was really worth with the Ravens, correct? he over valued himself and was sideline distraction..hes out there, bring him back? see what hed take? im betting he wouldn't be happy with our offer :)

-Virtually made no effort to build key weapons in free agency or via trade- which are those? you see the rams CBs both hurt now? them? umm Watkins was offered and declined? who else? hope not a another WR see dez see dak not being able to get them the ball anyway..

Jones plays it very close to the chest.hes slightly better but both of them not firing Garett after 2015 still bothers me so its a wash...he does help keep Jerry from making those really bad decsions..

Jerry was just on the radio.

Boy is he delusional. This ship is going nowhere.

He refuses to put any blame on the coaches. Still thinks all of those coaching changes in the offense meant something.

They basically think everything is ok.

Serious question, why do you listen to him?

Why does anyone listen to him at this point?

RGIII all over again. The league has figured him out.

But what doesn't make sense is the style of offense Dak ran shouldn't have taken 20+ games for NFL teams to figure out.

What he did was as old school as old school gets so if he could run that offense so well for so long I wouldn't think he would just instantly be figured out.

RG3 was running a college style offense. Dak wasn't.

So it just doesn't make sense at all.

He's a cheap bastid. No charisma, robotic, corporate. The days of marquee players wanting to come to this franchise are over.
It's really about the money nowadays. Sometime back it may have been about the team, but 90% of the time now it is the "pay me" mentality. You can't blame the players. That is just the way it is.
