Strongest Arm QBs Ever Played

Vinny and Cunningham were the only QBs that ever threw the ball over 80 yards in the air in the QB competitions that were on TV.

Just a few you forgot or were to young to rember (or were already posted and I missed it):
Terry Bradshaw
Daryle Lamonica
Jim Plunkett
Craig Morton
Clint Longley

I agree with those that believe John Elway had the strongest arm. The cross field passes he threw were insane.

Gary Hogeboom was just an 80s version of Jeff George. Completed as many passes to the other team as they did their own.

I don't think Warren Moon gets near the credit he should. To me Warren was a darn good QB who deserved better than he got.

I would loved to have seen Troy Aikman numbers if he had played in a pass happy offense like the early 80s Chargers had. Would have been a thing of beauty. ;)

I think the real question is which member of cowboyszone zone has the strongest arm.

Terry Bradshaw

Actually the first guy that came to my mind was Bradshaw's competition in the early 70s on the Steelers, Joe Gilliam. Gilliam was a small guy, only about 185, but he had an absolute cannon for an arm.

Chuck Noll liked QBs with strong arms and really liked Gilliam better than Bradshaw but Gilliam had very little touch on his passes. Every pass was thrown with the same velocity whether it was a screen or a bomb and his accuracy was not very good.

Gilliam unseated Bradshaw as the starter prior to the 1974 season but was replaced by Terry mid way through on their way to the SB.

Joe's story is a very sad one as I heard that he was homeless and demented and died at 49 years old after a life of drug addiction. The guy had promise at one time.

Dieter Brock's name deserves to be in the discussion. He briefly played for the Rams (1985), having played in the CFL before that, but his arm strength remains legendary.

BJ Townsend. Course, he only played I-AA, no NFL, and I only saw him in high school..yet stronger than anyone else I've ever seen. 90 yard, hand splitting arm.

Strongest arms I've seen:

Leftwich
Favre
Browning Nagle
Jamarcus Russell
Elway

YAKUZA

Bledsoe
Elway
George
Crocichia
Marino - he had a gun and often overlooked in these discussions

Henson and Hutchinson had very strong arms..........

How bout the Polish Canon........Jawarski

70's
Terry Bradshaw
Steve Barkowski
Dan Fouts

80's
John Elway
Vinny Testaverde
Dan Marino

90's
Troy Aikman
Brett Favre
Jeff George

00's
Jay Cutler
Carson Palmer
Jamarcus Russell

Really? He was comically bad in that playoff game we lost to the Rams in '85. The only thing "legendary" in that game was Dickerson.

Troy Aikman was accurate in short to medium routs. But lacked a cannon on the longer mid range to deep throws.
