Target him 8-12 times a game like those other receivers and see the numbers he puts up..
This is true, but it's not how the Cowboys offense works.

Dez scores more than anybody and defenses have to account for him. A lot of guys are overpaid, but Dez is still a great weapon to have. Ironically, if not for Bandino and our weak defense, the two playoff games against Green Bay alone would have improved Dez's reputation greatly.

Sturm left out waaayy too much in his continued slide into clickbait since he joined that dying medium.

GP includes how many injured games? Left out
How are the stats on a per game basis? Left out
What about the finally healthy stretch and dominant playoff performance? Left out and barely mentioned
What type of offenses are run by each team? Left out

Lazy conclusion seeking a justification by a good guy who's fallen into the DMN pit. You're better than this @Sturm1310

Those six teams averaged 81 fewer rushing attempts last year.

Dez averaged 5.3 catches, 80.75 yards and one touchdown over his last 8 games.

Extrapolated out for a whole season?

86 catches 1292 yards 16 TDs

Seems like that would be a worthy counterpoint.

It's definitely a combination of factors that've led to Dez's lack of production.

Injuries, obviously. But there is also seemingly a lack of motivation to go all-out. You could see a noticeable difference in Dez's demeanor for the playoff game last year vs the regular season. Super engaged and focused and giving maximum effort... maybe because he knew he was featured in the game plan? Regardless, all of that falls on Dez, himself.

But the other part, like a few people have already said, is that the Cowboys don't make Dez a central figure in the offense like other teams do with their highly-priced WRs. That is no fault of Dez.

Bottom line though is that Dez is being overpaid for the output he produces. I still love him, though.

Going to be hard to justify the contract in terms of statistical production if we are going to adopt the Dak and dunk as a strategy. Of course, part of that strategy is Dez clearing out space underneath.

I'll listen to Sturm...any time, any place, any venue...and enjoy what he is bringing to the table, right there.

2015 was over by week 1 after that foot injury. Like Romo, he rushed back out there because the NFC East was pathetic and up for grabs till week 13/14 IIRC. That injury usually needed a season off to heal from.

2016 was with another new QB and he suffered another injury early on. I thought he and Dak were starting to build real chemistry in the second half and I hope it carries over to this year.

Has he lived up to his contract? Nope. However, some of that can be attributed to injuries which were out of his control.

While we could had him play through a franchise tag, he was coming off 3 great years and well the market was being set for #1 Wide receivers.
