No offense but perhaps you’re not good at gambling? I’ve been doing fine for 3-4 years now. There definitely are ups and downs though. I’ve lost over $500 on the O/U in two different hockey games (in the past 2 weeks) in the final 7 seconds of the period. I’ll like to personally thank Ovechkin for one of them.....bastid.
I own two coltan mines. Between running these businesses, managing my ranch, and spending an inordinate amount of time hunting and fishing, I have little time for gambling. I wish you and everyone else who enjoys gambling the best.

Ok, I am taking bets now. Will Texas become the 49th or 50th state to legalize it.......unless Puerto Rico is added before then.

This is the only backwards state where the AG threatened to arrest the players not DraftKings or FanDuel. FanDuel blinked and pulled out but DK has stayed. And the tool didn't carry out his threat.

I don't think the DFS falls under this ruling as it's online based and the argument has been made that chance is removed and skill replaced to eliminate it from the gambling arena. Must have consideration, prize and chance for it to be considered a lottery or gambling. And those that play DFS will tell you it is a game of skill, the only chance part is the injuries.

What they should have done is lift the stupid law against online gaming and get in on the tax money. 150B is a conservative estimate on annual online gambling legal in states where allowed like horse racing. The states could get their cut like CO does from Twin Spires, Churchill Downs web site.

This country needs to come to the conclusion that it cannot legislate morality or protect people from themselves. But they can work to remove the crime element from the gaming. Some illegal operations were made unhappy by this ruling, just like the drug cartels with states legalizing and licensing weed.
I am thinking it will be one of the southeastern states like South Carolina that's slow to do anything, will be one of the last ones. Heck, their liquor stores still close at 7PM.

It is something you have to pay a lot of attention to, lots of little things can make a difference. I used to hate baseball but now own the MLB package and spend a good part of my weekdays watching it to help me with my bets. Having said that, there’s definitely lots of risk involved and what usually seems like a “lock” isn’t.

Freakin’ Braves have left the bases loaded twice today. Argh!

My post wasn’t bashing schools, it was the state govs that tell that story about how all that money will go to the schools and the schools will see a windfall of money....and ultimately they don’t see any change

I guess I took exception to the characterization of schools as "poor-mouthing" and the idea that there's something wrong with teachers trying to get some of the money they more than deserve.

I have no difficulty believing that what jazzcat22 says is absolutely true but have zero issues with school boards and principals continually begging for all the money they can get. Unfortunately, public primary schools are some of the most woefully funded institutions in America.

Sorry to whine. I'm not even an educator or anything. The way cops and teachers are prioritized in this country just bugs the crap outta me.

In an attempt to get more on topic: I can see both sides, the NFL/states/etc. wanting to limit opportunities for corruption and everyone else clamoring for freedoms here in the breadbasket of liberty that folks enjoy in most every other country around the world. But while I can understand the thrill people find in betting on sports, I really didn't care whether they legalized sports betting or not. If I'm gonna gamble I want my skill involved, so I'd rather lose my money playing blackjack or shooting craps. What's the rationale behind legalizing sports book and not cards, dice, slots and everything else? Could it be far behind? Love to see Caesar's in Fairfax and Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Virginia Beach. I'd say Charlottesville but traffic there is bad enough.

This will be interesting.

Louisiana is the stupidest of them all
I lived there twice for a total of 7 years and they're definitely different but they're getting Texas money by the boatloads in their casinos and Texas isn't seeing a dime of tax revenue from it.

My favorite LA story is when the feds decided that the drinking age across the country had to be 21 and any state not complying would lose all of their federal highway funds, they commissioned a research project. I can tell you growing up in Arkansas where we all went on our 18th birthdays, Bossier City, and I was able to get served there before that when friends had turned 18 before me.

They wanted an analysis of how much money allowing 18-20 years olds to drink was compared to their federal highway funding. They were actually considering telling the feds to shove it until word came down that they would make the punishment even stiffer than that if they didn't comply. They gave in but not many 18-20 year olds were getting turned away once the word went out that it was the feds forcing their hand.

LA has always been at odds with the feds which is why Bush screwed over southern LA after Katrina. I think if LA decided to secede, they wouldn't get an argument as the citizens absolutely despise the federal government. And since Texas kept it's Republic status, we could either secede or split into 4 states and have 8 senators and jack with the feds by sending 8 brisketeers. I would like a split in Texas and get into that BBQ argument the Carolinas are always into. N. Texas, S. Texas, W Texas and Austin makes sense to me cuz Austin isn't remotely like the rest of the state.

Hell, CA is considering splitting into 3 and Arkansas was going to split into two Ar and ....but then they found out there was already a state with that name.

NFL silent on gambling ruling

On Monday, the NFL experienced the agony of defeat in the highest court in the nation. Soon, the NFL will experience the thrill of financial victory. Ever proud of its track record in court, losing...

They knew this was coming which is why they agreed to let OAK move to LV. They would have never allowed a team there unless gambling was expanding beyond Nevada. The NFL thinks gambling denotes fixed games and we all know the NFL has been fixing the games themselves.

Yep.

I followed this case last year in New Jersey. The NFL which had always strongly opposed expanding sports betting basically bowed out when the announcement was made with Raiders moving to Vegas.

Illegal sports betting is already a multi billion dollar business and will still be a driving force across the country. Most states ( I believe about 25) would need new legislation introduced to over turn current laws but this ruling opens the door if they choose to.

I think we’ll see it in Atlantic City almost immediately but most states with Casinos and pari-mutual wagering will more slowly move in that direction as there’s much more involved than normal casino management because of unbalanced wagering that needs to be layed off to other casinos to prevent the house from huge losses.

Vegas will probably still be the hub for other states to lay off their unbalanced wagering especially in certain regions where most of their wagers will be on local or regional teams. This creates a much bigger obstacle and mass mgmt than most realize in comparison to normal casino and pari-mutual wagering .

I live in Shreveport and the roads are TERRIBLE! They are building a downtown in bossier and deciding to not allow people to walk around with alcohol like you can in new orleans. There isn’t to much attraction to Shreveport/Bossier which is why I believe that decision was a bad idea to not allow it. The casinos don’t seem to be putting money back into the cities contrary to what the selling point was by Edwin Edwards to bringing them here. They have like 6 casinos here plus the louisiana downs. They should have only three major casinos in my opinion. Shreveport is the city to live in if you like driving to Dallas to buy stuff like everyone I know, hell I bought a car in North Richland Hills after a car dealer told me if I wanted a deal to try Texas.

I didn’t not known that about my state! I always enjoy hearing stories like that!

I love my state don’t get me wrong but we have the highest insurance rates around amoung many other things. New Orleans is the best thing in Louisiana lol

I do know Texas is weird with appling to Dental school they don’t take to many out of state applicants though I will prob apply to Baylor in the Dallas area.

If Texas builds casinos Shreveport is done.

Currently we’re allowed to legally set up accounts in Nevada to place wagers from anywhere from over the phone or online.

It will interesting to see if we’re able to do so throughout the country where the lines could differ more dramatically than from casino to casino in Vegas or throughout Nevada.

For example the line on a Cowboys game could be much higher in Dallas or Texas , even Oklahoma or Louisiana than say in Ny or Philly in a big game. Meaning if you like Dallas you might be better off wagering on them in another state.

There will be minimal effects on business in Vegas as there’s only a few places which will be in position to fully implement Vegas type sports betting venues .

Also , these new venues will need a place to lay off the unbalanced wagering and Vegas will most likely be the place and why it’s most likely to only be in states and casinos with Vegas or Nevada ties.

Not all Casinos in Vegas or Nevada have sports betting books and the same will be true across the country.

All of our casinos are technically on river boats due to some law except for Margaritaville due to the land being “man made” so I am wondering how long before we jump on the sports betting bandwagon. We jumped on medical cannibus but haven’t went anywhere with it for example.
