He's the type of receiver that I along with many of us have said we needed.

A short strider, who is quick and agile, not the 6'3, 220 long stride receivers. What we used him for Sunday night was beautiful.

He certainly displays a nice burst, and those quick parallel passes add a new dimension to the offense. Last summer I compared him to K-mart, but he might be a tad faster.

Agreed. If he can run all his routes correctly he has a lot of potential. I'd like to find out.

The thing I like best about him is he always wants more yardage. he fights for every inch of ground. I feel pretty good about our WRs this year.

Austin...22.7 ypc
Hurd...19.2 ypc
Ogletree...19.0 ypc
Williams...17.1 ypc
Crayton...16.6 ypc

I love seeing production like that.

Austin...22.7 ypc - Undrafted
Hurd...19.2 ypc - Undrafted
Ogletree...19.0 ypc - Undrafted
Williams...17.1 ypc - 1st Round Pick
Crayton...16.6 ypc - 7th Round Pick

Scouting and Coaching have to get some serious credit here for finding the talent and developing it. Austin is turning into a force, Crayton has been a very good player for us, Hurd has been steady in his role and Ogletree looks insanely promising. Incredible job.

That just can't be right.

I thought we were idiots for not trading up as high as we could to draft a WR last April because we had no depth and WR was a glaring and obvious need.

Hos, if you translate your 'yardage' into inches, it reminds me of Al Pacino in any given sunday.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us.

They’re in every break of the game, every minute, every second.

On this team, we fight for that inch. On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch, because we know when we add up all those inches that’s gonna make the bleepin difference between winning and losing! Between livin' and dyin'!

I’ll tell you this: In any fight, it’s the guy who’s willing to die who’s gonna win that inch. And I know if I’m gonna have any life anymore, it’s because I’m still willin' to fight and die for that inch. Because that’s what livin' is! The six inches in front of your face!!

Now I can’t make you do it. You got to look at the guy next to you. Look into his eyes! Now I think you’re gonna see a guy who will go that inch with you. You're gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team because he knows, when it comes down to it, you’re gonna do the same for him!

That’s a team, gentleman!

And, either we heal, now, as a team, or we will die as individuals.

That’s football guys.

That's all it is.

Now, what are you gonna do?"

Dunno if he could be a #1 WR, but I think it's possible for him to move into the #2 spot eventually (probably not this season barring injury). He reminds me of a WR like Santana Moss ('cept a little taller), but a solid, fast possession WR that can do a lot with a short pass after the catch.

I read where it was said on the Randy Galloway radio show that Wade was the one who told Garrett to use Ogletree in those bubble screens. Imagine that...:D
Knowing the e-gals would blitz non stop a screen pass was perfect, I'm surprised they (the e-gals) didn't rely on it since they do it so well.
But anyway, aside from Felix a guy like Tree who is very quick is the man for the job.

You apparently have a fellow fan in Tony Romo who is happy that the young WR is getting more comfortable with the Offense. I am told he said as much to Jason Garrett. Look for Ogletree to get more and more looks.

Doesn't surprise me a bit, Hos. I've pointed out a couple of times that it caught my ear in the off-season when Romo singled out Ogeltree and mentioned him by name as a guy that ran crisp routes.

Good to see the kid getting a chance.

That's silly. A few nice plays from Ogletree in no way excuses massively overpaying for Williams, which Jerry felt compelled to do because he ignored that position in the first round for well over a decade. Roy has a long ways to go to justify that investment.

I really think Ogletree has the chance to be our next Miles Austin. An undrafted rookie that develops into a legitimately good player. He's miles(no pun intended) ahead of where Austin was as a rookie. I remember seeing Miles as a rookie and thinking nice speed, but the routes are bad and the hands need a lot of work.

In preseason Ogletree was running crisp routes, seems to have nice hands, and has speed to burn for sure. In fact, does anybody know why he went undrafted? Small school? no production in college?

Ogletree and or Austin will take one of those (pa) slip screens to the house. We still need Craytons savy and nack for getting open in the mix. Looking forward to see what Ogletree can do and becoming a DOMINANT offense.

because of your agenda, you missed his point completely:bang2: . He was using sarcasm for us not trading up in the draft to go for a receiver. His comment had nothing to do with RW. FYI, this is an Ogletree thread, not RW.

Definitely rooting for this kid.

He has the quickness I've been begging for for since we lost Terry Glenn. HUGE benefit to a team to have complimentary receivers. This guy gives us that IMO.

I didn't think too much of him coming out of UVA, but he proving he can play in this league. It's a good sign that he's adapting to the NFL this quickly after having a mediocre collegiate career. At this rate, he could be starting material by next year....one can hope, at least.

I believe he had an injury his junior year (his last year in football) and played in an offense that was pretty inept (IIRC from what I've read around here) and hardly had a chance to showcase his skills.

He left after that season and entered the draft. The red flag, as far as the draft goes, was his injury status (I believe).

Not a bad dilemma to have if you’re a coach. :laugh2:

Injury, bad attitude, came out early, run based offense. Only signed with us becasue Garrett was at UVA during his tenure plus our history of free agents WR making the team.

The Williams trade precluded us from doing exactly that. I don't recall anyone thinking we'd trade up into the first round for a wideout, considering we had no real trade bullets at our disposal. In other words, strawman. Love the "agenda" jibes, though. So fresh and original.

Can you imagine Terry Glenn('06) as our #1 and then Miles Austin as our #2 WRs? Or vice-versa. That would be sick!
