As I said, I think Dak would win. His scrambling ability, etc, would help him win the job. Romo can't take a hit. Until he can prove he can. And we know in practice the defense won't hit. In preseason games, defenses are vanilla.

And how are they gonna compete? In practice, where the defense doesn't hit? Or in preseason. When teams go vanilla in offense/defense. I myself think Dak would win. He'll have much better knowledge of the offense and more confidence in his game.
Then why practice at all...............seriously.

Romo knows the game and the offense at a level that Dak won't achieve for many years, if ever. Very few QBs achieve this Jedi status. If health isn't a concern, this is even a competition.

But health is a concern. Hence, where we are. Scrambling ability? Brady and Peyton couldn't outrun Jerry Jones, and they have the last two titles. It's a benefit, but hardly the magic bean.

The team is about the future now. This upcoming season isn't their real focus. In Houston, it is, which is why they need to get off their butt and do something before they screw this up.

The Giants blitzed. Same trouble when Giants blitzed Romo. All I know is Dak completed 67.8% \of his passes. With only 4 picks.

That's what was absurd about Dak's season. He's definitely going to get a better with experience. But there were multiple examples on film of Tony telling him things that the defense was doing. It's not a slight of Dak to say there are things Tony does better--especially after playing for 13 years. Nor is it a slam on Tony to say that Dak creates problems for defenses that Tony can't. They're just both very talented players with different strengths.

It's simply stupid to release Romo for nothing.

Trade him or he's the backup. Dak is one bad hit from us having a 2015 season all over.

Plus it's not like saving the cap space means we become players in free agency.
I'm about to jump on this wagon. Someone will eventually cough up a pick.

The Romo era is over, deal with it. Even if we see him as the starter, the club screwed up again. Its Daks team. Either jump off the ledge or find another team, this team should be pointing up, not sideways to make some fans happy.
The Romo era is over and it is Daks job. Folks saying otherwise are out of touch. On the other hand, there is no reason to let him go for nothing.

They why give Romo the job without him taking a hit? Seriously
Who said that?

My post was in reference to you saying they don't really practice so why bother having them compete.

Try and keep up...................with your OWN posting.

The start of the thread was Romo would win the job in competition. I said where would the competition be? In practice where the defense doesn't hit, or in preseason where the defense is vanilla. Until Romo CAN prove he can take a hit, there is no competition to begin with.
Try and keep up..................

You keep Romo for as long as its feasible in hopes of the market turning into a seller's market. At this juncture, it's a buyer's market. The fact that people don't understand that shows a lack of understanding football markets and economics.

I doubt Romo will retire if he's going to be the backup. Too much money left on the table for doing very little. Yes, he has a potential broadcast career, but he's going to make nowhere near the money in TV that he will make in the league.

HOU should be the first one's to crack. DEN has a first round pick in Lynch and I think the positive of Romo there is you can compete for the Super Bowl with that defense and Romo...right away. It also gives Lynch another year to sit back and learn and Romo was proven to be a good mentor to Dak and could help with Lynch. But, those things are more luxuries than need.

Meanwhile HOU is at the point where they are either relying on Savage or having to bring in Cutler (can you imagine Cutler and Bill O'Brien together?). I understand the apprehension on any team's part with a 37 year old QB that has played very little football the past 18 months due to multiple different back injuries that required back surgery. But, I think HOU would have a lot of explaining to do to their fanbase as to why they didn't get Romo when they had the chance given how good their defense was last season and should see the return of JJ Watt.

An important part of reading a defense is knowing when the blitz is coming and from where. It's not just about coverages.

That he's not a finished product should show you why everyone is so excited. The guy could be a top 5 QB with some improvement.

The Romo fanboys are more excited to see him fail.
