No 6 on the line is my definition an illegal formation.
They didn't call 6 on line
its not even part of the penalty
may as well say shouldve been holding every play too…even if not called

and are you sure there were only 6?
looked like 7

point is, they said he didnt report and he clearly did

When the lineman makes himself eligible, doesnt the ref announce it on the mic or loudly?

He was uncovered, so that claim that he was is false.

70 says he didn't report. But my question is why did 3 Lions walk over to the refs? Clearly they were trying to hide who was eligible from the Cowboys. But the refs have to alert the Cowboys to an eligible receiver wearing an ineligible number. They used to announce eligible receivers coming into the game with ineligible numbers. They should start doing it again
They have to tell the defensive captain. I thought they also had to announce it, but you’re right, I didn’t hear anything

What is odd is that 68 is the one that definitely reported, not 70. So it was something else. What made 68s catch illegal touching?
Decker, Goff & Campbell are adamant that 68 reported. Moreover, the refs had been told before the game that if a two point situation came up this exact situation with 68 reporting eligible with 70 entering the game would occur.

Can't blame Detroit for being pissed. Sounds like they did everything right (at least as far as reporting) only to get jobbed by the official. I haven't reviewed all the other aspects of formation, etc., so I'm not commenting on that.

It’s kind of wild it’s a sport where you go report to a striped person your intentions

Maybe Detroit should’ve just ran an actual play like gentleman ?

They did, they ruled #70 as eligible. At that point, the Lions should have been conscious of the fact that #68 was NOT ruled as eligible.
They didn't announce it apparently so Detroit had no idea that the ref had botched it.

He reported in. The Lions won that game. What if that happened to Dallas when the season mattered? They should award the game to the Lions and fire that ref. It’s really not about the officiating, nobody cares if you blew the whistle or missed a call, replay it and get it right.
Dan Campbell said he didn’t report.

It was announced that 70 was eligible, I would assume we covered that guy. Why would Dallas cover someone who was not announced as eligible? Don't people think that had some effect on him being wide open in the end zone?

If they don't call it then Dallas has an equal gripe that a guy not announced as eligible caught the game winning pass, right? The ref may have made a mistake in who he said was eligible, but once they heard it wasn't 68, hey shouldn't have thrown it to him.

I believe it was reported or at least attempted to be reported. However, I think they were trying to report 2 lineman to be eligible and the ref only heard one or got the numbers wrong.

Obviously some kind of miscommunication transpired.
