And it would never go down that way to begin with. If the Cowboys traded for him they would have a deal in place with Peterson's agent to renegotiate his deal before a trade was ever made. My guess would be to guarantee the $13 mill he was slated to make in Minny this season as his signing bonus over the course of say a 3 year deal with lower base salaries over the life of the contract.

That's why I included this statement:
I don't see Peterson agreeing to a pay cut to be traded when he would have more options by forcing them to cut him.

He'll be taking a pay cut one way or the other (at least on an annual basis) either via trade or FA. If Dallas truly is his end game (and I do think it is) he'll make it work one way or the other.

That is true, but other than that, there are too many moving parts to make any definite statements right now. So many things have to happen before Dallas could even talk to him.

I do think MINN will ultimately cut him once the League rules on his reinstatement. The last thing they want is for him to get hurt or suspended again since he is under contract. They won't hang on to him out of spite.

My point is that he has no incentive to help the Vikings by agreeing to a trade with a pay cut when he would be free to negotiate with any other team if they cut him.

Yes, he will definitely have to take a pay cut if he does not play for the Vikings, but I don't think he will want to help them out in a trade scenario.

I think the Vikings are spinning their wheels if they think they are going to trade him. At best they would get a late round pick.

Gotcha.

If APs a free agent and does not want a contract that jeopardizes our cap, Sign him. If we can keep Murray as well, were golden. If we lose Murray, were still set for a great year running the ball. With our line, I would be comfy going with Randel and Williams and Dunbar. I feel that confident in the Oline. .

If the report that hes not playing another down for the vikes is true watch Murray squirm. He'll sign what ever we put in front of him if hes smart. Murray better end up on a team with a great Oline or hes just another back. How many teams have that that needs a runner? If hes smart, he'll sign a team friendly contract before AP hits the open market. If he wants to play hard ball go get AP and tell him good luck on the open market. I am sure Murray will get top dollar somewhere, but will he be happy running behind just any line? Will he be productive behind just any line?

I really like Murray, but I hate the "gimme my money" attitude of these players to the point I'm ready to cut of my nose to spite my face.

The AP situation is unlikely to be resolved before the Cowboy have to make the decision on Murray.

The Cowboys have to be prepared to go with Randle, Ryan Williams and a draft pick if they don't sign Murray. Maybe something works out with Peterson or maybe not, but, IMO, they have to be prepared if something does not work out with him.

Personally, I'm OK with Ryan Willams, Randle and a draft pick. I think both WIlliams and Randle have enough talent but have questions regarding health (Williams) and character (Randle). A draft pick would improve the probability of getting production from that position. Obviously, the draft pick would be optional is they ended up signing Peterson.

Who would you like besides AP if we don't resign Murray?

There's Ingram and Spiller that are worthy FA's.

I actually like Ingrams upside. But why does it have to be a FA? I just feel like we would be going backwards giving big money to a 30 year old RB. We have had many people rail on JJ for giving 30 yr old players large amounts of money. Also he hasn't played in a year and not to mention his head has been elsewhere dealing with legal issues. This isn't 27 year old AP we are talking about here.

It's up to Jerry & co. Do they want to push for this to happen or not? I expect this RB situation to remain unsettled through the draft.

how is it up to Jerry and co., AP is under contract with the Vikings. I sure as heck wouldn't trade anything for him.

Well, AP wouldn't be getting a long term deal here. If we get two years of big production from AP, which I don't think is unbelievable, that's a win for us. I don't think there's a RB in this draft that looks to be a must have.

I'll take two years of AP behind our young and talented line.

And AP does not hold the cards he is under contract and him crying is not going to change anything. Fact is the more he crys the more I don't want him in Dallas

You don't get it...He will get out of Minn just like a former backup QB did in Dallas like last year. There are ways to make yourself unfriendly to a team you don't want to play for.
Just watch and learn.

We can renegotiate the contract before trading for him. That's part of the reason you consider trading for him because it essentially gives you exclusive negotiating rights.

Again, there's no way I would give up much for those rights, but the Vikings aren't really in position to ask for much.

No Dallas cannot renegotiate his contract before he gets here. At best, there's a handshake agreement prior, but the trade is based on his Minn deal. No way the clear 13 million just for AP.

How does that work exactly? He only has $2.4 million (signing bonus) in guaranteed money remaining on his deal and it is set to be paid this year, so whether they cut him in April or June shouldn't matter, should it? The dead cap money would be $2.4 million no matter what.

I admit I'm not a cap expert and could be missing something, but just looking at his spotrac numbers, it appears to me the savings would be $13 million if they cut him at any point this year.
He is signed through 2017. He counts %15.4 M this year. $15 M next year and $17 M in 17.
