I was more irritated at the wide-open drop than the wrong route. Miscommunication will happen at times, especially with rookies.

So in closing, I'll say (reiterate) the following-
The word 'garbage' may be a little harsh. It's a relative term here. I don't know the kid personally- I'm sure he tries/is trying hard. Like I said, it's more of a knock on the team's management.
Those harping on it being 'his first game' and he being 'a rookie' are missing the point. And are foolish, imo. I don't the see the potential- first game or not. I didn't see it before the game. The game merely exposed it more for me. That said, these guys don't come off the street. They've been playing football a very long time. The NFL is a place to produce and rise. It's professional sports. Not a place for learning and patience. If he hasn't learned to catch, and catch really well, by now then- yeah, no. Goodbye. I can excuse first-game jitters, etc. but, again, that's if the talent appears evident (ie: Dez Bryant). It does not, to me, in Williams case and that's based mainly on what I have seen prior to the NYG match.
Anyone knocking my ability to analyze football talent- well, I'm sorry, you're just an idiot. But I'm not so foolish as to think I'm always correct in my assessments... so I hope some of you are right and I am wrong (as the season progresses) for the sake of the team. I'll be the first to admit it, if I am. The question is- will you?

He was getting open. It maybe a bit premature but all the mistakes he made Dez and Austin has made, a little slow on a cut, turning up field before catching the ball, leaving his QB out in the wind on a audible. If he can get open against NFL corners he has the potential to be a good receiver in this league. He was open against the DBs very often. The key to being an NFL receiver is separation and he gets separation. Look how long it took Amendola to get it.

Quite possibly the worst OP I've seen here ever.

It was his first game, and he was actually productive overall. Receivers generally take 2-3 years to develop, so he looks AHEAD of schedule to me.

He's known as a smart receiver, so he'll learn from the hot route mistake.

Wow, this was a doozy. LOL

Can we let the guy get to week 8 before we totally throw the guy under the bus.

Only thing I don't like about the kid is he is a "body catcher", I absolutely disspise receivers that don't go get the ball with their hands. Not using your hands often leads to dropping issues. But it's not saying he can't still succeed, Mike Wallace comes to mind.

Garbage? Meh.

Lot's of receivers start running before they catch the ball. What was interesting here was Terrance actually turned his head 90 degrees before the ball got there. I think he was just putting too much pressure on himself to make a big play and got out of sync.

I almost forgot, he was a 3rd round draft pick, he should be putting Dez on the bench by now......

I don't even understand how this argument still has life.

They want Miles in the slot. Williams is the only other real viable option outside. Harris is a slot receiver himself, he would get swallowed by space outside. It's a matter of Williams just being a better fit. That's all.

For anyone to say they don't think Williams has any potential and already be bashing him is absolute rubbish and deserves a badge of stupidity.

Well, I have to chrim in on this one. He did use poor decision in route running that resulted in a pick 6 and he use poor catching technique when he let a pass bounce off his chest instead of using his hands. These are issues that are correctable over time but this looks to me like he is far from ready to play in the NFL. This type of play can loose us a game. Sooooo, I think another experienced receiver would be a better choice until the coaches dean him fit to play without making bonehead mistakes.

Williams hasn't earned his spot as 3rd receiver IMO either. He didn't do much in pre season and he didn't show much last night either. From what I saw he could not get separation against man coverage. He did make a good catch on the slant route, but he got no separation and was covered well on that play. The two drops and the catch he made in the middle he was open but those were all zone defense and he was open because of the play call not because he beat a man in coverage. Hey may have potential, but I haven't seen him use it at this point. Haven't seen him beat man coverage and letting passes hit him in the chest is not helping the offense. I think Harris should be in there more at this point. Work the rook in the game to get him up to speed but don't give him the 3rd spot because he was drafted early.

This, IMO, is a really good post. It points out some of the things that concerned me about him in college. Namely that he isn't that quick coming out of his breaks, so he is more likely to be effective against zones than against man coverage. In that regard, he would likely be a better receiver for teams with a read option QB, who will be facing more zone coverages.

Hopefully he can improve his quickness--I haven't seen it demonstrated, either in the preseason, or in the first game. It would be good to see him run a more complete route tree. Most of what I've seen, where he has looked good, has been in straight line patterns.

One of the other knocks, is that he will occasionally drop catchable balls. Hopefully he cleans it up, but there have been good, even great, receivers that had that problem their entire careers.

He is big, and he has good speed, so there is hope.

That was the knock on him coming out. Smaller hands and tends to be a body catcher. He will improve but it may be one of those things he will struggle with from time to time over his career.

Overall he will be fine.
