Looks like a pretty standard resume for any coach climbing the ladder, the only difference is he was good enough to keep climbing up. LSU is really the only "destination" collegiate job he's left, and he didn't leave it to take another college job.

It is pretty standard.
Guys staying in one spot a decade are whats not standard.

Saban has never been anywhere longer than he's been at Bama.

He's not unlike Urban Meyer in that regard.

Maybe Saban leaves Alabama now that this news just came out about improprieties, but he may not want to stick around the college ranks.

Thats what I think Josee. I don't think Texas would offer him the kind of money it would take becvause it's a bad investment, long term. I think that there are probably only a hand full of schools he might consider. Perhaps OSU, USC, Texas maybe ND and that might be about it. Nobody in the SEC IMO.

Is Saban leaves Alabama, I think it would be for another shot in the NFL and he doesn't have much time left for that. At 61, he probably has 5 decent years left to make a mark in the NFL.

Whomever Texas decides on, if I were them, I'd put a call into Kirby Smart and see how interested he might be in coming to Texas as our DC.

I was just thinking how many times I've heard Mack is gone & it never happens. It seems to be this way the last several years

I think this might be different. A&M is a real threat right now. Texas, if they don't change direction, could find themselves with a dwindling product and that will cost them real money. It's not the recruits that are the problem. They have talent. It's the coaching and I'm not talking about HC. Granted, the buck stops there and it will but this is more about position coaching IMO. That's where you learn technique and learn to recognize and apply technique. That's not happening in key areas at Texas IMO. Something has to change I think. As I said before, not just anybody can come in and be the HC at Texas because you have to be more then just a great Football Coach. I think the best way to do it for Texas is to keep Mack on as Director Football Operations and allow him to continue in his role with boosters and the LHN etc. Then you bring in a good HC and just let him do his thing. If you go try to find another Mack, that will be a mistake IMO.

I'll believe Mack is history when I read where they are looking.

I've heard the "Mack is history" song too many times these last few years to think otherwise.

I remember after last year's Cotton Bowl fans were screaming to fire him & that doesn't feel or seem any different than this BYU fiasco.

I personally think he needs to go. They just seem stuck in neutral as a program. We'll see what happens. If I were him I'd take my millions & pay golf every day & give somebody else a go.

No offense but anyone thinking Saban is going back to the Pros knows very little about Saban.
He absolutely hated it.

What has worked for him is instituting NFL level support (sports psychologists, personnel department that rank players on mental as well as physical attributes, untold assistants for academic support et al). But he hated the process of drafting and building NFL teams with a salary cap.

He's simply too old to take a couple years off and recharge and too old to start over somewhere with a bare pantry. UT, ND and USC are probably the only real options. Of those USC has so many distractions that it seems a fairly long shot. ND has a new Irish coach doing quite well. UT has a dead dog carcass hanging around and a top 10 talent pool in place.

Logically UT ne4eds Saban and Saban would find it a great fit. It's basically Bama but with fewer rednecks per capita and lots more money.

He is going to go at some point because they all do.
Each day further away form that NC is a day toward his retirement.
Could UT right the ship and win 8 games this year?
Yup.
Would that be enough to not have private convos with top coaching candidates?
Probably not.
UT dominated a Pac 12 team in a bowl last year which kept vultures at bay.
They had apparently found the new QB and settled in.
Now... not so much.

If you rank Big 12 coaches Mack Brown isn't even top half right now.

At some point those boys in Austin will stop sipping tea and make a move using all that money just sitting there in the bank.
ESPN would kill to have Saban at UT and exclusive property of their network. I guarantee they'd kick in even more money for Saban shows.

And as to why UT would sell out for Saban it is really simple.
Because if they hired Saban tomorrow they'd be a favorite every game the remainder of this season.

He walks in with that ability to outcoach people and play big boy ball with the athletes already on campus.

Hmm, apparently Chip Brown is saying Deloss Dodds is stepping down as AD after this year.

Apparently Bob Bowlsby is the one he recommended succeed him. (David Shaw?)

Bye, Mack.

I heard on the radio on the way to the airport that both Deloss Dodds & Mack have denied reports of them quitting. Dodds said the story is completely false.

So UT will continue as is.

I actually agree with Mack's statement. The problem, from what I've seen these past few years is not that the schemes or the players have not been there to make plays. It's that the tackling and over all physicality have been so atrocious that Texas has literally not been able to make tackles.

Mack: Manny, love the schemes, your schemes are good.
Manny: Thanks for your support coach.
Mack: Manny, your fired.

at least tonight we're just getting beat by a better team not because of stupid Nintendo idiot stunts on defense every play.

"We'll get all this righted by winning a Big 12 championship." Mack brown quote in post game presser.

Well if there's one thing we can count on with Mack it's winning conference championships.

He really said that?

You Texas fans have to be happy in a way that a change is finally coming.

Looking at UT's remaining schedule, I can easily see them finishing 2-10.

My how the mighty have fallen.
