Texas Rangers 2012 Thread

That's a huge part of the Maddux approach. Pound the strike zone early and often.
It's true, the stats show it, once a batter is down in the count even 0-1, his odds go way down.

They say this is why Washington preaches defense. He wants the pitchers to throw strikes. When you throw strikes, people are going to hit them and you need a defense to scoop them balls up.

The Rangers defense has been lights out so far this season. It has been amazing to watch.

I hope we don't become the Buffalo Bills. I really think though that the Rangers can beat any baseball team in the league when they're playing near their best.

Feliz has not been good...3 HRs given up with this and the inning he pitched vs. NY. And he rarely gave up homers as a closer

I've never supported Feliz move to the rotation. The kid basically has two pitches (yeah, three but only two are usable really).

If his slider isn't money, he is toast if he has to pitch to more than three people. Sometimes less.

anyone up for ross moving to the starting rotation and feliz back to the pen?

Welp so much for Harrison's good start to the season. He's come back down to earth these last 2 games

Jeez pitching was terrible the last two games. But that definitely happens in 162 game season. The ebb and flow of it all. Just put it behind you and do better the next outing.

i'm worried about harrison, holland, and felix.. sheesh. all of them decided to start sucking this week.

Harrison has been pitching lights out for some time now. The only thing I can think of is he is injured or something. Having one bad outing can be expected from anyone, but that's two absolutely terrible outings in a row.

I'm not too worried about Holland and Harrison. Those two guys have proven they can right the ship. (unless injured) Now Felix is a different story.

Dont freak out about Feliz yet ... yea its been rough but he could turn into Pedro Martinez with the stuff he has. Just needs to throw strikes with all his pitches.

So is Roy Oswalt still available? I haven't heard anything about him in a while.

I just saw this. Nice.

Anyone think we might go after him? the rotation might need a kick in the teeth if the bottom half doesnt start playing better. I realize its a long season and it ebbs and flows, but with these guys its either good or awful.

I went to an Express game last night, a buddy of mine got a tour of the stadium before and he said Maddux was down here and having a meeting. Wonder why? Think Feliz might go back to the pen and someone comes up to the rotation from Round rock?

Or maybe he was just down here checking on the pitchers?

The key to being an outstanding team is not to beat people when you are playing near your best, it's to win games day in and day out over a 162 game season, which has to include winning a lot of games when you are not near your best. That's the point the Rangers need to be at, and where I believe they are. I can't imagine anyone believing there is any team the Rangers can't beat unless they are at the top of their game.

It's a long season with ebbs and flows and we aren't talking about Cliff Lee or Roy Halladay here. These are good pitchers who are going to have bumps in the road because they aren't at the level of elite pitchers. Harrison and Holland both have that track record, and there is every reason to believe they will survive their bumps and go on to have strong seasons, which is exactly what they did last year. The only one without a track record to point to is Feliz so we don't know yet how he will handle the demands of being a starter, but he hasn't had a blow up game yet, and though he may not have pitched as well as we would like, he has pitched well enough each game to give us good chance to win. His ERA is 3.81 and WHIP is 1.19 ... not exactly shabby.
