i am not going to rag on taco until he has gone through camp and played a bit.
it was clearly stated in the draft he needed to learn moves.
and he could be thinking too much.
there is still hope.
we can all hope.
but come the end of season and if the DL does not perform, marinelli and his system need to go.
they had plenty of time.

however, we should keep track of how taco performs compared to harris, takk and watt, as well as basham, willis and a couple edge rushers in the draft.
But I asked you a specific question....why are his eyes closed? That's all I want to know

We just need to spend the cash and get some DEs. We are terrible are drafting and developing them.

problem is no DEs were really available and they refuse to sign nick perry the OLB because they dont want to project him as a RDE.
i am sick and tired of marinelli's stubborness and his insistence to make medicore players perform by rotating them.
while that type of thinking got decent performance when there was zero talent, it is now holding us back because it reduces the URGENCY to get better players by whatever means possible.
get good players and rotate them instead.

:muttley: i have no idea and dont care. may be he is imagining himself as superman and is getting ready to take off. may be he is thinking about what he is going to have for dinner. may be he saw a hot girl in the stadium and she gave him her number.
hopefully the reason is not that the OL grab a bad area :lmao:

Here's Stephen Jones reason why Taco was drafted over Watt:

So why didn't Dallas go with the sexier and more popular choice of Watt over Charlton?

Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Stephen Jones explained what the thought process was, and it has nothing to do with doubting Watt.

"I would not bet against T.J. Watt," said Jones on 105.3FM The Fan following the Day One selection, via The Dallas Morning News. "Everything about him is plus, plus, plus. The toughest thing for him with us is just there are some risks there because you don't see it on tape as much of him putting his hand in the ground. Whenever we're grading players, if there's a projection, there's a discount there if you don't see it.

"It doesn't mean that they're not going to do it and do it well."

That said, Jones wishes Watt the best but wants to be clear they had a stronger attraction to what Charlton brought to the table.

And he has zero regrets as he praises his new rookie pass rusher.

"Certainly if we were going to bet on a player and his football character as well as his off-the-field character, you're going to line up with T.J. Watt and bet on him," Jones said. "It just so happens we felt a little more comfortable with Taco because you see him do it every day on the film. You see it every play and he's doing it against big-time competition, as T.J. was as well, obviously the same conference. You just see it there and you feel more comfortable with Taco

Exactly.
Marinelli insists on a player that fits his system.
Instead of picking a player and put him in the best position to excel.

I am sure we all will be comparing Watt and Taco over the season.
As well as Takk, Harris, Willis, Basham and other edge players picked after Taco.
For all our good, lets hope Taco wins out.

Then you needed to trade up to #1 overall and select Myles Garrett. That would only require all picks from 2017, 2018 and maybe 2019.

In reality they have many options. Mayowa had 6 sacks last season despite only startingb6 games.

Dlaw is a decent player if healthy.

Tapper is in his 2nd year.

D.Moore has shown the ability in real games. He just needs to keep his mouth shut.

Irving when he returns will be fresh and he has shown terrific ability at times.

If Jaylon plays, he was a terrific pass rusher in college.

If they "had" to have a DE this season then that"s the purpose of free agency, not the draft.

I think what some are saying Walker is out ALL the options mentioned, there isn't we can say will give us double digit sacks from the DE position. In fact, they could very well come from the DT position ( Collins ), similar to the Panther's DT Short leading their DL in sacks.

if collins can and is going to be like Short, the DEs need to step up or he will be doubled.

But why did he have them closed for the photo. I'd have my open. When you see photographers you gotta keep those eyes open. Blink after the player is over.
hard to control that bro!

Thornton cannot play NT. He played the 5 at PHI.

We have at least prospects 2 deep at all 4-3 spots. We are missing prospects at both OLB and the 315+ lbs NT. 3 out of 7 spots absolutely bare and razor thin at DE. About all we have are inside linebacker spots.
Plus NT's are Planet Players and ones that wont be able to play 3 downs in todays NFL so it's not a position that is gonna be very easy to fill effectively

former UDFA? richard ash is 330lb.
thought someone said he played decently in camp.
except he does not apply much pressure, kind of like a NT?

next training camp practice is tomorrow.
lets hope taco is driven to perform better from the criticism from his coach and probably numerous social media comments.
like to see how tapper does against 1st teamers.

And if we ran a 3-4 this year and he was our starting NT our pass D would be irrelevant because we would give up 6 yards a run

Marinelli just signed a contract extension... He's not going anywhere.

Talk about switching to a 3-4 is superfluous.

He was when there were better players on the board.
If I was going to reach I would've taken Jordan Willis from Kansas St.

Didn't Jordan Willis get drafted in the 3rd round? Time will tell but according to people that do this professionally that would have been a much bigger reach.

i did not say this year.
we dont have the olb players for it.
it was simply an illustration of the availability of NT versus pass rushing DEs.
and the guy was not even drafted.
lots of NTs available in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounds.

if the opponent would average indeed 6 yards per carry and takes advantage of that, i would welcome that over our DBs getting bombed while the opposing QBs waits in his lawn chair.
with the number of plays needed to get down the field, it is not an option when time is running out.
it also increases the chance for penalties against the O.

yes, willis, basham and more were drafted in the 3rd round and 1 even in the 4th.
bengals got willis and the guy in the 4th and are currently raving about the pair.

we will all be watching how all these edge players pan out.
lets hope taco is the one that shines above the others.

I would like something more than just your words to prove the "3-4" is dead.
I wouldn't say its "dead" but nowadays with most 3-4 teams running a 4-2-5 over a 3-3-5 in Nickel the line between 3-4 and 4-3 is blurred. Rams will be a good example. Much hand wringing over the switch because Donald and Quinn " dont fit". Reality is they will spend around 70% of the time in a 4 man line anyways

So basically we would have to blow up the whole defense because of 1 player?
