The aging, injured veteran I would trade Dez

Dez is not the problem, it is how they use him that is the problem

Is it the coaches fault he drops too many passes?

I agree he is not being utilized correctly but he is not completely blameless. He drops too many balls and these 'Dez Caught/Dropped It' are becoming a theme. He needs to start securing the ball better.

This I agree with this part, his route running ability (or lack thereof) and our inability to get him targets/touches in Garret's scheme is a massive issue. However trading him is completely overboard. The only way you trade him is if someone is offering a massive haul, at least two firsts and an above average pass rusher.

You are seriously overvaluing his true worth. He's injury prone for one and he just does not command that type of return.

Partially his fault but it is on the coaching more putting him into those positions. It seems like most of his catches these days are jump balls with hope and a prayer.

I'm convinced. Most of the posters of this site are mentally incapable of understanding the game of football. Dez sucks now? He only runs outs & flys by design of OC & the OC's play calling. Not Dez's fault. However if he came out & complained about the play calling he would considered a cancer. Jason Witten would never receive this much hate. Btw Jason sucked yesterday. No one calling for him to be traded. I wonder why???? Hmmmm...
Re Witten, it is understood that he is on the Romo-Witten goodbye tour anyway. Considering his age, incremental loss of athleticism and contract, we'd be lucky to get a 4th rounder and a jug of Gatorade for him.

While I don't "hate" Dez, I find his emotional outbursts and testosterone overload swagger to be distasteful. Big difference.

Witten is slow but does everything else well. He has also talked some smack but nowhere near the ridiculousness Bryant subjects teammates and opponents alike to. Dez is pretty slow, can't get open anymore and has problems with ball security. Granted, if running your mouth = football skill he would be top 5 in the league but alas, it is not so.

So to sum up, Dez is an ineffectual braggart and Witten is a solid player that will yell at you occasionally.

Lad, a concise and insightful assessment of the overrated Dez, a swaggering lout who is a legend in his own mind.
Bravo!

Yeah I want to see what Dez does in a one on one matchup next week. If he owns that high priced FA they got from the panthers then that will be a good sign. In fact he doesn't have to own him as long as he is in the game.

One thing I do want to point is I like Dez, I have his jersey and I wear it every gameday for good luck. Refer to the superstition thread if you want to know my superstitions. Dez, Romo and Witten are my favorite Cowboys. But I'm starting to come to grips that Romo may be done cuz of injury, Witten is slowing down and Dez may not return to form. If we wanted something for anyone the only one that we could get something for is Dez.
For good luck? I'd get rid of the jersey.

One of the more distasteful things about this Forum is evident in this thread.
From the arrogant "sighs" to the assides to the mods to shut the thread down.
Football louts, this is not a dissertation at Oxford, not a seminar in Canton.
It is one man's opinion. And we should, if not commend his spirit of conversational enterprise, then at least keep your inconsequential laments to yourself.
Don't be known for your arrogance or intolerance.

What? ARE YOU CRAZY? You clearly don't understand football if you don't think Dez Bryant is the best WR on the planet!

Dez has 25 catches and 340 yards over his last 8 games! He is THE BEST WR IN THE NFL! You can't just find that type of production anywhere!!!

Also, dropping the ball and moping around is Jason Garrett's fault! IF only Jason Garrett was a better coach then Dez Bryant would catch the ball.

The Dallas Cowboys should trade their aging, mediocre, "fans" like you who don't know a lick about the game of football! LOLZ!!!!

Ya know what?

I'm a big Dez fan, but I'll entertain this.

It doesn't look like we're going anywhere far with this defense, and the possibility of Dak being the future (I think, and have always thought that he is) makes this with discussing, IMO.

If I could get a first for Dez, I might do it.

But I would wait to see if...

A.) Dez really has taken a step back.

B.) Dak really is the real deal.

C.) Do we really have no shot?

A and B are the most important IMO. I think this team has a good shot at the SB in 2018 if they play their cards right. If Dez is 80 percent of 2014 Dez at that time and Dak is the real deal, the offense SHOULD be good enough.

And the defense... Needs work, but nothing two years of solid, concentrated drafting and FA dollars can't fix.
The problem I have with trading Bryant is that you now have to replace him. So basically if you dont get a sweetheart deal with a 1st and multiple day 2's, you probably using that pic on a replacement.

I would trade Dez Bryant. I would love to trade him for a 1st rounder and I would do it for a 2nd rounder, or two 3rd rounders, one this year and one next year. If someone is willing to take on that contract.

Bryant has not been the same since he got paid and injured. He runs 2 routes. Either he doesn't know how to run more routes or the coaching staff doesn't use him correctly and his career is being wasted. Might as well try and get something for him.

Thoughts
Salary cap. Can't trade.

I appreciate what Witten has done with this franchise but Broaddus pointed out an interesting stat. Witten and Beasley combined for 26 targets! That is way too many targets for guys who are not big play threats.
Cole Beasley is ranked #2 in catch percentage over the last 5 years combined for all WR's targeted at least 200 times.

I would say he's earned that rate of confidence from team QB's.

Man oh man... The OP just has no clue. Dez is playing within the confines of the offensive scheme... If you would have paid close enough attention on Sunday, you would have seen plenty of sideline conversation between Dez and the offensive brain trust. He was frustrated and all roads lead to a lack of creativity in the game plan. Trade Dez? I almost cussed when I read that...

Trade Linehan...

I would definitely send Linehan packing before Bryant...and I would also scrap anything to do with Garrett's offense. Personally, I have seen enough of it.

I'm not Dez's biggest fan. He has all the potential in the world but never dominates. Whether that's from injuries, coaching, or whatever. It's rarely the complete picture with him.

I'd trade him in a heartbeat, especially in this year--as this will probably shape up to be a rebuilding year anyways

Did anyone see what Pittsburgh was doing with Antonio Brown last night? ? ?

Moving him around...
Lining him up on both sides...
Running him in motion....
Lining him up in the slot...

Are we incapable of being that creative with our #1?

Our QBs of late don't have the skillset of Ruthlessraper or Romo. I'm sure some of it is Dez's fault (the dropped TD), but the limitations of our QBs over the last year or so has adversely affected Dez. I was pleased with Dak on Sunday, but he missed Dez (and Butler) on some wide open opportunities. He'll watch the film and improve as the games go on and it will show in Dez's production. We have to be patient, but I believe the offense will begin to gel at some point and score 6 instead of 3. I hope the defense will at least become solid.

I'd wait and see on this year. Although I would rather draft a potential #1 WR and then see if that draft pick performs and if Dez's performance isn't the same, I could see trading if the price is right.

But for years Cardinals fans were talking about trading Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals resisted and despite being a step slower, Fitzgerald is as good as ever.

Why?

Because he has an excellent coach who wants to find ways to get him the ball.

The Dez Bryant hate on the board is 10X as much as Jason & Tony combined. Again I wonder why.

Tony Romo gets more undeserved hate than any player I've ever seen my life. You'd have to have a room temperature IQ to miss it.
