No, please don't take me wrong lol.

I'm not even specifically talking about the comments in this thread, I've just seen people comparing the two when they're obviously two different types of movies.

One is a comic book movie, the other isn't.

I went a re-read my previous post and it came off as a bit whiney and fanboyish lol...

We all have our moments.

I know that look. I've seen it before...mostly in the mirror. Remind me to tell you about the shouting match I got in high school about Star Trek versus Star Wars.

:laugh1: I have always liked both so I never got the whole hate or anger level that those two factions would bring out against each other.

I've seen it twice already and I'm sure there will be a few more trips to the theatre. I've waited for this movie since I was a kid and it did not disappoint.

Forget Tom Cruise, Joss Whedon and Zak Penn did the real Mission Impossible and created a perfectly-crafted story and managed to blend together a large number of well-established characters, giving each one their time to shine.

And the special effects take things to an entirely different level.

This is what the magic of the movies is all about.

Yeah! Great stuff indeed. Saw it yesterday morning, and was quite pleased with how well they pulled off the ensemble cast and the team dynamic. Whedon understands characterization, and understands the characters. He managed to handle the various team members' levels of power in a very nice way, giving each something impressive to do, Super Agent to Demi-God to Hulkster.

Half of my friends have already seen it twice too....

You couldn't have said it any better. It was surreal to see them all together on the big screen.

When I was in high school during the mid 90s, my friends and I set out to make an RPG that combined various science fiction universes. The game initially included Star Trek, Star Wars, and Wing Commander, and we planned to make expansion packs that would incorporate more universes.

When designing the game, we had to develop a way of ranking ships against each other according to weapon power, shielding, speed, etc. In the first formula we used, the Star Destroyer ranked as sufficiently more powerful than the Constitution-class heavy cruiser, which is the type of ship that the Enterprise is (movie version).

I distinctly remember throwing a fit...

The source of the disparity between the rankings was the absence of fighter craft in Federation ships. So, as a counterbalance, I developed the Ajax Fire System, which enabled Trek ships to target and destroy fighters more quickly than ships from other universes.

Trust me when I say that I know just how nerdy all of that sounded...

I was never much of a comic book kid, but I have to admit these recent movies....Avengers, TDK, xmen, spiderman, etc......are a guilty pleasure of mine.

Avengers may have been the best to date. Loved every second.

Anyone know where I could find a brief synopsis or storyline that explains the relationships for MArvel and some of the other comics. Maybe xmen too?

Hilarious trying to compare Star Trek to Star Wars as regards tech. Two completely different universes.

Realisticaly the Enterprise could eat a star destroyer for a snack; their shields were a joke and they had nothing like the weapons range of a Starship.

Warp Drive was so much more versatile and flexible then Hyper drive.

As near as I could tell all the Star Wars ships were powered by what appeared to be fusion reactors; but that was just a guess. Which was generations behind Anti Matter power plants.

My buddy won tickets and did not cash them in over the weekend, so I get to watch it again for free tomorrow night on the IMAX. I also get a $25 voucher at the snack bar, which should be enough to get me a small popcorn and a water.

The Avengers makes U.S. box office history as it takes in $1billion after record second weekend

The superhero blockbuster took in $103.2 million to lead for a second-straight weekend, raising its domestic total to $373.2 million, according to studio estimates on Sunday.

With $95.4 million more overseas, The Avengers lifted its international receipts to $628.9 million and a worldwide haul of just over $1 billion, only 19 days after it began rolling out in some markets.

You think there will be another one? I suspect how they threw in Thanos at the end there, you can expect a LOT more to come.

My son and I went to see it early yesterday morning in 3D.

The most fun I have had @ a movie in a long time. Fantastic heroes and story.

Loved it.

My guess is that we will see an Asgardians versus Thanos storyline as the continuous of his Avengers cameo in the next Thor film due out next year.

Star Wars happened a long time ago according to the opening credits while Star Trek happens in the future. By the time Star Wars reaches the same point and time as Star Trek, their tech will be greatly evolved. Not that I care either way.

I saw Avengers yesterday. I liked it. Very enjoyable. I don't judge it as a film because that would be unfair and unrealistic. I judge it as a movie version of a comic book and it does very well in that category. It is entertaining, the visual effects were good even I just watched the 2D version, it was action packed and just fun. I could turn my brain off for a couple of hours and just watch some fantasy. Nice to do from time to time.

Finally saw it.....was AWESOME! Such a fun movie. The only gripe would be they don't explain enough about hulk (dumb and gets stronger as he gets angrier) and the enemy could have been fleshed out more to seem more of a threat. Otherwise it was just comic gold....straight from the comics. Went tonight at 9:55 and it was even sold out. So crazy.
I think Marvel was depending on the viewers watching the individual movies for detailed explanations of the heroes and villains or at least have some prior knowledge of each character from the comic book. I agree that they could have added a little more background info for the viewers who have no prior knowledge of any of the characters, but that may have caused some lull in the action. From a marketing perspective, I think Marvel nailed it. Anyone who has not seen the individual movies should leave the theater wanting to learn more about each character and go get the individual hero movies.

You can go here http://marvel.com/characters and browse any character.
