I've read your posts and you don't have character as a fan. In fact, I would say 95% of fans can't look at their team objectively and acknowledge shortcomings or criticisms of their own team which would require character. And those who can, like myself, often get villified by his own teams' fans and their opponents. I'll give you an example. I'm a Suns fan that can acknowledge we got beaten by the Spurs. My own fans want to blame the officials instead of admitting that D'antoni's system may not work. At the same time, Spurs fans want to deny that Bruce Bowen is a dirty player and that officials allow Duncan a lot of freedom that isn't afforded to other players. Both parties get defensive and don't want to acknowledge the truth. The truth is the Spurs do get away with calls but they are also a much bettter team and would have won regardless of the officiating.
If I lacked character as a fan, I would be a lot more popular, but unfortunately, I can't be fake just to pacify people. Having character in regards to perceiving sports is detrimental to one's reputation in my opinion. I don't think Nors has any less character as a fan than you guys. All of you are great defense attorneys when it comes to your teams' position and will argue to any length to justify it. I go back and forth in determining whether it's worth my time to discuss sports on these forums because everyone has an agenda instead of being candid and discussing sports from an honest perspective.
I guess you have never read my comments about the Spurs on the Spurs thread. I said I was concerned about certain aspects of the team a few weeks ago, but I was not concerned with where they would be come the playoffs.
Bowen isn't a dirty player. He is a very physical, hard nosed player. To me a dirty player is someone who takes cheap shots and goes out to possibly injure someone (Raja Bell, Eduardo Najera, Mark Madsen). I will say the Wally kick looked bad, but I did not see the entire play. When Bowen kicked Little Ray Ray in the back, that was cheap....but Bowen acknowledged it, apologized, and said it was totally unnecessary on his part. Please don't give me the who ankle thing with jump shooters either. Wince Carter is glass fragile. He hurts his ankle all the time, not just against Bowen. The Thuggets have no right to complain about dirty. Little Ray Ray is softer than a tissue. You never, ever heard of or saw Reggie Miller, Kobe Bryant, or Rip Hamilton calling Bowen dirty. Why is that, cause they understand that basketball is a physical sport, especially when teams want to win.
I have long admitted that Duncan gets special treatment from the refs.....not nearly as much now as he did a few years ago. Duncan is a superstar. In the NBA, superstars get calls. I don't like it, but I have long understood how the league works and accepted it. I still gripe about it from time to time though.......Like when a jump shooting, soft Mavs team can shoot 50 FTs against a low post, physical Spurs team. Sorry, but that game was totally rigged and those refs were horrible. There is a reason why PHX is usually last in the league in FT attempts, cause they are basically a perimeter team. Low post and aggressive teams tend to get to the FT line. Dominant low post big men and slashing backcourt players tend to shoot the most FTs. Dallas didnt have either in that series (Dirk was perimeter) and they still shot 50 FTs in that game...
I also know that certain players are allowed to get away with murder. Karl Malone was the dirtiest player I ever saw. He would throw elbows at the heads of others.....causing lots of damage. He would knee you on purpose when going for layups. He would kick the defender when shooting a jumpshot and get the foul call (Reggie Miller did this same move)....which btw is totally an offensive foul, except in the NBA. John Stockton was allowed to hit players in the crotch, etc. None of these players were scolded or reprimanded by the league....however, Dennis Rodman was watched like a Hawk.....DOUBLE STANDARD
The Spurs are the worst shooting, Best team in the NBA. I have never seen a great team struggle with FTs the way the Spurs do. I have never seen a great team struggle with clutch FTs the way the Spurs do. If the Spurs were able to hit just 75% from the line year in and year out....instead of 68-71%, they most likely win about 63 games a year and probably a few more championships. This is why I don't understand why people cry about the Spurs getting calls or shooting FTs. If I was the other team, the one place I would want the Spurs is at the FT line. History says, many times you only give up 1 out of 2, or even 0-2. There are so many times during a game, when I scream at my TV telling the refs to let them play and not to call the foul on the other team. I would rather take my chances with a shot than FTs.
Now as far as the Spurs getting the calls...........In the last two years, the Spurs have been getting far less love from the refs. I guess you missed when Lebron lowered his head and used it as a battering ram to run right through a set Oberto (clearly an offensive foul)...NO CALL.....same game, Tony was hit across the face 2-3 times going up for layups and knocked to the ground....NO CALL. I can see if he is hit in the arm, but in the face? you have to protect the players. But this has been going on for the past few years. The funny thing, the Spurs seem to get more love on the road than at home. It used to be, home teams got the love from the refs......not anymore, at least with San Antonio....You can see how the game has changed.....it was funny watching the game last night and Wade driving into the lane surrounded by 4-5 Spurs and out of control.....he tries to throw something up but is completely contested and turns it over....He looks at the ref begging for a foul, but for once, the refs didn't bail out little Wade....
But we all know about Wade....the Mavs choked, but Wade was handed the OBrien by those referrees. After the Finals, you realized what us Spurs fans were upset about. Wade was treated in the Finals the way Dirk was in the Spurs series by the refs......like a demi-God. And I know you know Dirk gets away with murder, cause he is a Superstar.
As a Suns fan, I guess you are bitter that we have owned you in the last 5 years, especially since Nash came aboard. Dont worry, if we meet yall again this year, we will once again end your season. Spew your Spurs hate all you want.....make ridiculous claims about us getting all the calls, being dirty, being soft, being boring, or whatever.........but We own PHX and at this point in time we own the OBrien....
When I say character as a fan, I mean being a fan, not fairweather. I mean sticking with them through thick and thin. Not calling out fans of other teams and then disappearing when things on your end seem to be going in a negative direction. Being able to acknowledge shortcomings of your team. Knowing your team and at least its basic history.
