Zordon, you are spot on young man. This Garrett hanging out with Romo and Witten is just silly. Landry never hung out with his players, neither did Jimmy. Yet the both loved their players and had good times with them, but they knew right away that stuff was going to get done. Not that that had anything to do with anything, just saying that Garrett is such a softy. It does take more than X's and O's to get to the SB.
If you act like you're better, you just might be. We allow teams to push us around, treat us like little wimps, and we should take it to them. I wish Parcells' would've been 10 years younger, but then Jerry wouldn't have hired him.

Or....we could just play better with some better players on defense. But maybe you're right and it's the hanging out with the players thing.

Tell it to Coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees who were playing golf together. LOL

The problem is not every successful or great coach has "personality" or "swagger" or whatever folks want to call it. Swag comes from talent and on-field success. The two are not mutually exclusive. People uphold the Belichek as the premier coach and he has the personality of paint.

What the Cowboys need is on-field success, by any means necessary. Then we can stop these psychobabble threads trying to figure what the Cowboys need to win.

If you notice how Belichek is though, his personality completely does trickle down to his guys. He doesn't put up with nonsense, and he's about being held to a higher standard. They're going to whoop up on you, but they're not going to brag about it and let you know before they do it. Heck it's even referred to as the "patriot way" by many. I'm sure we can all agree the way the Patriots carry themselves is completely different then say the 49ers/SeaHawks even though all three teams have recently been very successful, and I believe the main difference is the Head Coach. The 49ers and the Seattle SeaHawks are more in your face, talk smack about how bad they're going to beat you down, then they back it up by beating you down like you stole something. They carry a certain "swagger", and in my opinion it's all because their HC sets the tempo.

Now I'm not saying one way is better then the other, because it's been proven that you can win with both ways. But I do believe a coach with "swagger" like Harbaugh is something this team needs, which is completely different then what we have now.

Jason Garrett is possibly the worst decision Jerry Jones has ever made. He has fostered an environment of saving your own *** by being politically correct and conservative. The team plays slow and tight, and lacks confidence. We will never do anything with Ginger here.

Can't see how being PC has anything to do with confidence. This is a big reach.

Child, please... you are reaching again. That is just DeMarco's personality. Marshawn Lynch sitting up there would make DeMarco seem like Richard Sherman by comparison. Keep the swagger, and give me defensive players that weren't working at Home Depot during last year's training camp.

You meant that Marshawn Lynch would seem like Richard Sherman. I liked it anyhow

SAS is a relentless Cowboys critic who should have shown more consideration for Murray than to verbally badger him as he did. Using a team's player by putting him on the spot to attempt to give credibility to a personal agenda is blatantly and selfishly unfair to a guest. DeMarco handled himself about as well as could be expected under the circumstances. His remarks were appropriate, imo.

One of the main differences between the Seahawks and the Cowboys was on full display for everyone to see on FirstTake yesterday.

This is the second time Demarco Murray has been on FirstTake. The first time he was on a year ago, they ridiculed him for being too P.C. and giving too many cookie cutter answers to their questions. I gave him the benefit of the doubt because it might have been the first time he was in that environment. Now he comes on for a second time yesterday and the interview was embarrassing. Dude let SAS clown his QB with no rebuttal from Demarco, all of his answers about the team's 8-8 struggles were straight out of Garrett's C-3PO handbook, and he seemed rattled by the grilling he was taking. At one point he tries to change the subject to the corporate sponsor that sent him there to promote their product/event. Overall, he came off corporate, rehearsed, unconfident, and detached from what they were asking him. I couldn't help but think I was watching a microcosm of the country club the Dallas Cowboys have become.

Immediately after Demarco was interviewed, Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner came on (remember this was the linebacker that Jerry Jones claimed the Cowboys were planning on taking in the 2nd round if they had not traded that pick away to draft Claiborne). His demeanor was night and day from Demarco's. Bobby was direct with his answers, extremely confident, and borderlining on cocky. He showed off that Seahawks' brashness a couple of times when he made the claim that Broncos receivers were scared to go over the middle against them in the Super Bowl and that Jimmy Graham was lucky to get his new contract before playing the Seahawks D because they would make him look pedestrian.

The Cowboys used to have players who talked, walked, acted like this in the 90s. I don't see them anymore. Where have they gone? Dez would flourish in that Seahawks environment but instead he gets muzzled here, why? X' and O's are important but so is player/team confidence so are things like team chemistry as Wagner mentioned in the interview. Cowboys lack it, they lack the personality of a winner, unfortunately I don't know where it's going to come from within this organization. Ideally it would come from the head coach and trickle down to the players but Todd Archer said in Q&A last week that the coaching staff lets their player's weakness scare them from using them. Is anybody surprised by this opinion from one of the top Cowboys beat writers? How many times have we begged for the offense to enforce their will on teams and how many times has prevent defense killed us at the end of halfs and games? This team, from the top down, needs a personality transplant more than anything. Improve the defense and oline all you want, until this happens we'll never win the big games.

Hey..

I think you are worrying too much about this.

Listen..when you win the World Championship as good as they were..

..being brash comes naturally.

Murray seeming more withdrawn etc. goes with his personality.

He's not shooting off his mouth posting bulletin board material to be used later.

I just hope this guy runs like Calvin Hill and Don Perkins combined.

Then we will all stop worrying.

Anybody that could watch that and somehow say DeMarco was too reserved and doesnt have the attitude of a winner needs to be put in a straight jacket, committed for evaluation, and have no contact with the outside world. Screamin A was a complete jerk and DeMarco handled it like a guy that didnt want to stoop down to Screamin A's level of idiocy. If anything I gained more respect for our RB! No cheap talk, just basically showing he didnt care much about what the IDIOT had to say and was above it all. To me, thats a winner and Im glad we have guys like him on our team.

SAS needs his tailed kicked beyond recognition.
I'm sick of his relentless Cowboy hate.

Yes, like about 28-29 other teams In the NFL, the Cowboys don't have what Seattle has right now.

And yes, I know Z in particular loves brash talk and Seattle had that in spades.
We understand that..and Seattle earned that right.

Occasionally in this day of age...maybe 1out of 10...brash talk is actually backed up with brash play. All the rest of the 90% it's just that ..a bunch of hollow bs talk.

What was said earlier is true...if a Cowboy talks too much crap, everyone sees it as totally useless. Get so get some skins of the wall first before you start running your freak in mouth.

Well you can't really blame Demarco. If he came off as political correct or indecisive in his answers then thats the fault of Garrett. Thats because the players of a team emulate the coach. Its up to the coaches to show them not only how to play football but also other aspects of life besides football. That is why people love to play for Pete Carroll. He says it as it is and walks the talk. He doesn't hold anything back and isn't political correct. I honestly wish we had a real coach. Garrett is not a real coach. Garrett was selected because he had ties to the 90s team and thought that he was some kind of offensive guru. This is another one of those Jerry blunders that usually happens once every 2-3 years. Garrett was a major blunder. Now Jerry doesn't want to fire him because he will end up being the laughing stock of the NFL. Deservingly so though because Jerry shots from the hip and doesn't care about the consequences until the poo poo hits the fan.

I'm afraid, Zordon, this is a classic case of seeing what you want to see to drive an agenda fueled by frustration from the Cowboys experience the last several years. I certainly understand your frustration...but your making a huge leap with this assessment. What you and many who have already responded failed to notice was the stark difference in approach of Stephen A.Smith (the notorious Cowboy hater) in both interviews. For Demarco's interview, he donned a straw hat and pitchfork. For Bobby's interview, he simply wore kneepads and brought along a box of kleenex for clean up. I don't care who you are, it's really hard to project confidence when someone attacks you the way Stephen attacked Demarco. Transversly, it's very easy to look and sound confident, when someone is wearing your butt like a clown nose.

And to be honest, I didn't have a problem with how Demarco handled either interview...especially considering the way he was being attacked and what he had to defend; I actually thought he handled himself pretty well. Were you hoping he would stand up and pimp slap Stephen? I know I was a little. But truth be told that would have been the wrong way to handle it. All he could do was say what he said, "We're going to keep trying to get better," which is all you can say regardless if you lost in the Super Bowl or posted the worse record in the league, your task in the offseason is to try and get better. Bobby Wagner's team just won the Super Bowl; how exactly did you expect him to act? Of course he's confident...winning breeds confidence.

Watching a First Take interview and drawing some overarching team observation for the Cowboys is one of the more embarrassing things someone has done on the zone.

I don't think Demarco could win. If he was 'confident and borderline cocky', people would complain that he has no right to be cocky because he hasn't done anything.

If he blatantly sticks up for Romo, it just starts a big argument between him and SAS and you're basically allowing SAS to win. SAS is a clown. I wouldn't want to give him the satisfaction.

With Wagner, he can be confident and cocky because....HIS TEAM JUST WON THE SUPER BOWL.

Demarco's interviewing style is far from the big problem with this team.

YR

It was a tough situation but he could've stood up for Romo.
