No offense, but I usually get a small smile when I see your Sharks flair :)

But you guys currently have the last laugh, with this past postseason. But the '14 playoffs... man... brutal. Not to be a meanie, so I'll leave it at that, my Cowboys brother :)
The only thing good about your LA Kings is they handed Montreal their last Stanley Cup in 93! I will always be thankfull to LA for that.;)!

I will say, the Habs have the best goalie in the league, bar none. And that says a lot coming from a guy who has Quick in net! :)

You still follow the Habs?? If so, what do you think of the Weber/Subban trade?

Price is decent. I grew up watching Jacques Plant...Ken Dryden and then the incomparable Patrick Roy. The Canadiens have won 24 Stanly Cups!!

I was one off! School me, brother!

Roy is the GOAT, for sure. Hasek was a treat to watch, too. Remember, I'm an 80's baby, so my fandom didn't start till the early-mid 90's. But Roy, man, he kept on going. Brodeur, too.

Price is amazing, tho. I just watched him kick arse in the World Cup of Hockey. Beat my Quick (USA). But we had two defenseman on Team Canada (Doughty and Muzzin). So it was bitter sweet.

I had the honour of watching both Dryden and Roy live at the old Forum countless times. They both could completely dominate a game and beat much better teams by themselves. Particulary Roy. Best goaltender l ever watched!! Marty McSorley was always a favourite of mine...LA had some fantastic players over the years...Marcel Dionne...Dave Taylor..Rob Blake...Luke Robitaille.. Rogie Vachon...Bernie Nichols...to name a few. Gretzky of course..l will always think of him as an Oiler. Oh yeah.. Charlie Simmer!!

I would love Owen Nolan to come back for a day just to check him. Not critically hard, because he did give us some good teams, but for getting the Kings championships.

/But back to the Cowboys. I'll admit I bailed on Danny White after that loss to the Commanders in the NFC Championship. I forget what announcer it was, but he said the receivers said White threw "Medicine Balls", in other words, you're going to need some medicine after you jump to catch them. I wanted Hogeboom after that loss. That was stupid, but I was also a teen age kid.

I loved Danny. He has always been one of my favourite Cowboys. Hard as nails pocket passer who could read a defense and make a good quick decision. Danny, just didn't have the defense to go all the way.

What did Landry think of Danny, Haley?
White was Landrys boy. Ole Tom really finished Rogers career so he could install Danny. Roger was always a high risk offensive player and Danny better suited Tom's more conservative style. I think Roger always resented Tom's conservative ways and ole Tom more or less pushed Roger out.

Have to disagree. Thurmans Thieves were solid. Front seven had Randy White, Too Tall Jones, Harvey Martin, John D., and Bob Bruening as well as Bethea, and I can't remember the other. Offensive line was weakening but good. They also had a solid running game with Dorsett and Springs. Cosbie was killing it. Pearson and Tony Hill were awesome.....There is a reason why the blame ended up being laid at Danny White's feet.

It was wrong to blame him. People may hate me for this, but the reason wasn't White. It was coaching. The game had passed Landry by.

I saw a documentary on Roger and it seemed very much like he wanted to say what you just posted, but he couldn't bring himself to do so. Even at his retirement speech, he gave nothing but high praise to Landry (Roger did). He revered him, and it seems like it was outwardly one-sided. Tho you could tell Landry loved him and knew his guy was gone forever, and it killed him as he stood in the back of the room and watched Roger's farewell.

I missed all of that excitement and history but I try to learn as much as I can from you guys that lived through it. I love reading everyone's anecdotes from years past on this board. Glorious posts they are, that give me a glimpse of our illustrious past.

That's very interesting about White and Landry, thank you for that,

How come Landry wasn't able to scheme/gameplan a winning team with all that talent? Too conservative?

Yes. Those were all great Cowboys. When Danny took over those players best years were behind them especially the defensive boys. The offense could have gone all the way if only the defense could of held up. That was their downfall at the time. In those Conference games it was the aging defense that let the club down. Danny's play was solid. In my memory anyway!!

He was running the same schemes he had been running for years. The NFL is smart, they fget tape and figure things out. He was still using the Flex Defense when Jerry let him go in a way I will never forgive Jerry for. I can also say I hated Landry's firing, but I understood it. The game evolves. Things change. Tom wasn't changing. There is a reason the fullback position is nearly dead, and the run and shoot went the way of the Houston Oilers.
