I do think it is fair to point out that Romo only has real control of one element and that is retirement. He has no control over any of the others.

Really, Tony has control because Jerry has given co-equal control in this process. The "DoRight" rule is that neither person will screw over the other because of
respect and trust. Both of these men respect each other and the process and both are going to be making a mutual decision acceptable to both.

Well, if they actually let him fairly compete, he too would want to stay.
They do not want that. Even if they think think (or even know) Romo is better, they loved what they saw in Dak, see him as the present and future, as reliable health-wise, as a player who's arrow is pointing up.

I would be more desperate if I knew I had all the pieces except a qb. Not many teams have the potential to win a Super Bowl and if you only need one piece, I think that would lead to desperation

That pretty much sums up the list of teams that *may* be willing to trade for Romo. The only teams that will look hard at Romo are those with the belief that they have a shot at a title if they can only get an elite quarterback. Win-now teams who lack the centerpiece.

We all know that short list might include Denver and Houston. Maybe Vikings, Bills?

They also need the funds and the belief that they can keep Romo up standing.

Just read an article on Shutdown Corner where Broncos beat writer, Miles Klis, reported that the Broncos would be interested in pursuing Romo intently if he is released. I would like as we all would, want something in return before I would release him. I would keep him if there is no trade for him. Competition could be a good thing.

If nothing else, if they can at least flip picks with Denver that is something................I hate to just give Romo away for nothing.

actually you can...... when they miss which is like 60% of the time they are worthless

They are not worthless. Even if you get a solid special teams player or back up,that's worth it considering the bargain contract.

Trading away draft picks means you miss out on guys like Dak Prescott and Anthony Brown. Everybody loves to look at the Patriots and they are not masters of the draft by any means but they know the value of draft picks. The more you got, the better chance you get to land an impact player on a cheap 4 year deal...or you have a bargaining chip to trade up and get that player you really want.

Any Cowboys fan should know the value of draft picks. The Joey Galloway trade, among other things, cost this team years.

I know Jerry has said that but nothing is done yet. It's one thing to say it, it's another to do it if presented with a nice offer from another team. I think the posters point is valid. Romo really only holds the retirement card. Jerry may follow through on the do right rule or things may heat up more than we even imagine right now making Jerry decide to take a firmer stance and seek the highest compensation he can get. It will be interesting to watch it all unfold.

you can also sign FAs and trade for people....the draft is just one method for acquiring talent

Absolutely but players on rookie contracts have to make up the bulk of your roster. A team can get by without making huge splashes in free agency if they draft and evaluate young players well...a team can't survive primarily on free agency though.

Why would he exactly?
His team is too close not too. They aren't winning a Super Bowl with who they have today.

There certainly isn't any assurances they'll win a SB with Romo who has a 2-4 playoff record and never got the Cowboys past the divisional round. You have to figure Denver is considering Romo but he clearly doesn't carry the HOF status that Manning came to Denver with.

the titans could trade mariota and get romo, they would be better off short term, and could draft another future qb.

I think Romo is actually a better healthier QB than Peyton Manning was at Denver.

This is just a guess but, nothing is done because teams (that Tony approves) aren't calling Jerry up and making acceptable offers for Tony. It may or
may not happen over the next few weeks especially if teams fully expect Jerry to release Tony to find his team after no team offers anything
meaningful for the QB. Teams aren't stupid...they most likely have an idea that the Cowboys FO is not going to pay 14mil for Tony to come to
camp and hold a clipboard. At some point, the team will have to fish or cut bait.

Manning had one health concern his neck but it's been a number of different injuries with Romo. He's missed games the last 4 straight seasons and the last 2 seasons have been a disaster. He's had 3 broken collar bones during his career and he's had 3 different back injuries. The last few seasons he's played he's taken a lot of sacks. Manning didn't hold onto the ball like Romo who tries to extend plays. Garrett mentioned in 2015 that Romo has to get rid of the ball quicker. The type of QB Romo is makes him susceptible to injury. It's the number of significant injuries that are concerning with him. Denver's gamble paid off with Manning but you have to remember they got him as a free agent.

If I'm Jerry, I tell Romo, "Look, I love you like a play cousin, but I didn't become a billionaire by getting the short end of the deal. We aren't releasing you. We're trading you. We'll give you an option where you want to go, but we're going to weigh your decision base on what's best for the Dallas Cowboys."

If I'm Romo, I'm pressing for my release, and I'm making no guarantees that I'm not going to play for our division rivals. Bump that. I'm going to the team that best serves my interests.

Manning got Denver a championship. They aren't likely getting one with Lynch or Simien this year. Romo would be their best shot and their window with that Defense is closing.....fast.

Manning had a championship before he arrived in Denver so they knew their chances of winning a championship with him were pretty good. Romo may be a better QB than what Denver currently has at QB and would give them their best shot but he's not Peyton Manning, not even close. Elway talked about what a move for Romo could mean down the road. Those close to the Broncos situation believe signing Romo will likely cost Denver Trevor Siemian who showed potential last season. It's going to be hard keeping both of their young QBs that Elway said they like if they sign Romo. If they sign Romo and have to part ways with Siemian and Romo gets injured again and Siemian goes off and develops into a solid NFL QB, Denver is going to have a lot of regrets.

Denver won 8 games with Siemian whose numbers weren't that bad in his first starting experience. He put up 368 yards and 3 TD's with a passer rating of 125.6 on KC this past season. He put up 334 yards on Tenn and a TD so he has some real potential. If they're able to hang onto Seimian, Romo would be a progress stopper for both young QBs. These are things the Broncos are going to have to consider.

I love the do right rule. It's has been lost by many in today's society. Guess it's old school.

Too many people use the "me first" rule

Cowboys did right by Romo already. They paid him a crud ton of money. They don't owe him anything else IMO. They can make a fair attempt to move him to a team that he would like to play for but in the end, the allegiances of the front office should be to the current team not to making Romo happy.
