I’ll wait until he actually puts something on film before I get too hyped about this guy.

Right now he’s nothing but a RAS player.
A person in basic training is trained and motivated. Same here, but with respect as they are still on the line.

I wouldn’t be comparing Smith with Randy White just yet. It amazes me how overboard fans go with players before they ever put the pads on for the first time in an NFL game. If you listen to some of the fans, we have the next Randy White and Barry Sanders. Lol

Via NJ.com, Super Bowl winner Kelce recently was asked to talk about young tight ends who share his playing style. He didn't quite bite on that, but ...
“I don’t know if there are any that remind me of myself, but there are a few guys I’m excited about. Kyle Pitts (Falcons) being one of them. Ferguson down in Dallas and (Daniel) Bellinger over in New York.
"I’m excited to see how these guys manifest over the next few years and we’ll see where they can take their game.”

Jake Ferguson

This offseason, we see glimpses of the guy walking around with a big stick. The early talks during the draft cycle about Dallas targeting a tight end went in one ear and out the other.

That poise is a testament to his self-confidence.

In only one season, he has made a Pro Bowl player expendable, welcomed competition from someone drafted higher than him, and kept beaming.

That's a baller, which is partly what Travis Kelce was referring to.

According to Pro Football Focus, Jake's yards after the catch was 6.4 compared to Dalton's (Schmidt) 3.6.

Not to mention, Jake had a much higher quarterback rating when targeted than Dalton (129.9 versus 80.4). That tells me that he is quarterback friendly, which is what Prescott needs.

Dallas did play a substantial amount of 12-personnel. So, the two tight-end sets were practical for this team.

Fourth-round pick Viliami Fehoko Jr. says that he's already up to 280 pounds and is working to add 5-10 more before training camp to give Dan Quinn the positional versatility he's looking for out of the San Jose State product.
"Hit the ground running first year," Fehoko said about what's expected. "I think I'll probably play between the EDGE and three-technique so it's a little different from college. But I think [Quinn] expects me to hit the ground running pretty hard this year.

Rookie minicamp will continue on Saturday as each of the 21 members of the rookie class continue to get settled into their new home in Dallas.

Hope it works ... i'm not as confident about converted DT vs natural DT .. Learning a new position that will be interior and he's not the exquisite DT size, i see as more of a project.

Frankly it sounds like Tyrone Crawford like. Rotation like.

That's why i am not as excited and high expectations with this Fehoko pick.

I'm looking for three years and relevant time on the field...but a hard worker and smart about football. His father was a coach and he's very dedicated. Already put on weight to match what Dallas is offering for his 'job.'

If you are seriously thinking Mazi is the next Manster, I suggest you have forgotten or never knew who Randy White was for the Cowboys.

For a 4th round pick if he’s another Tyrone Crawford you take it.

He’s a high effort and high motor guy so that will go a long way in itself.

Quit at trying to look smart by talking as if one is on the panel for selection into the Hall. You aren't on the selection committee nor have offered any evidence beyond implying knowledge one has no where demonstrated any evidence for any type credability beyond band wagon ring tapping. Either get into the discussion or keep one's own arrogance out.

I never once said that he would or would not be similar to either Randy White or Bob Lilly...and my wife and daughter-in-law still have pictures with Bob Lilly and I know Randy still gives clinics for youthful athletes all around my area to the Valley.

Try first to conduct an addition of football facts or just stay away from pompous contempt nowhere offered up for discussion. Get a job or see a Recruitor...for a real clue. That or add to a valid discussion...caboose rider.

Jones said Smith was ranked 14th on the Cowboys' draft board, and executive vice president Stephen Jones indicated the team had just 11 players with first-round grades this year.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/36309575/cowboy-select-mazi-smith-no-26-pick-nfl-draft

Lies!

The Dallas draft board only had one name, Dalton Kincaid. It was circled and underlined many times and Jerry had drawn little cartoons of Kincaid catching touchdowns and hoisting trophies. Jerry even drew a heart over the i's in Kincaid.

When the Bills deftly outmaneuvered Jerry all they were left to do was spin the wheel o' players because Jerry was so stunned he passed out in a Scotch haze.

No one had even heard of Smith in the draft room. By the time they woke Jerry up from his Johnny Walker induced stupor Tight Ends were down to Schoonmaker. Jerry picked him as soon as it was made clear that Paxton Lynch wasn't able to be drafted again.

I read it on here.

Yeah, Randy was an undersized pocket slicing 3 tech. They don't even play the same position.
Unless someone explains all relationships, some don't have a clue on proving or disproving. Evident, is skill at completely missing implied reasoning for perspective.

In conclusion, read about useage of both Smith and Johnathan Hankins at the same time as Quinn has stated...just which one is the 3DT for the usual Dallas useage of nose and 3? Which trash can full of dirt is that 3?

But Smith is the more mobile of the two!

I just guess there are too many Smith linemen for some to keep up...

tap the breaks, i like the draft more then most but please dont put that type of comp and pressure on a player before he even gets his pads on for the first time. maybe lets call him the next leon Lett we can adjust later. LOL

I only skimmed the story but didn't see any mention of Randy..
Nothing wrong with getting excited about the young guys. Comparing them to all time greats though is kinda crazy

I think smith will play some 3 tech. I would have him in on obvious pass downs too. His quickness with no worry of the run really, could be great with Dlaw slid next to him and having Williams with Armstrong on the edges and Micah everywhere just picking his spot
I don’t think they used the 26th pick on him to be just a run stuffer and play a third of the downs

That is ultimately the likes for all comparisons to come...why not starting at the beginning and see how things are really getting down and when it is happening?

You here and now saying that there is no chance or he's not putting on his pants one leg at a time just as a Randy White did? I don't have your comparison pure stereotypes that prejudges a player until THAT player does or doesn't deserve respect.

I’m just not a fan of comparing a guy who’s never took an nfl snap to an all time great. Can he be as good as White? Sure, it’s possible. But it’s also not really necessary to be an alltime great to be a really good player and help a team win

How do you tell a player is missing the mark while it is going down, if not BY comparing to a very strong Cowboys' player through the evaluations?

I love Randy White, but he is still a man...and should be given that respect by comparisons.

There are many good soldiers walking around, without a Medal of Honor. There also was a Medal of Honor recepient who did latrines at the Air Force Academy because he just wanted to be a part of the team still!

I'll leave the Hakka to the Hawaiians...
