Well I guess Dallas felt like he was a 2nd round guy and not a first?
Round sound...they wanted him because he projects for the Cowboys. Not just end linemen pass rush... as that is currently a strength.

By the way round counters...what rounds did Bob Hayes, who changed NFL defenses, or Roger Staubach go in. Just answer the question and don't start off running away with excuses.

I get too excited about rookie UDFAs every year when most of them don't pan out. I'm already dreaming of what players like Luepke, Bass, Durden, Johnson and Cropper might can do for this team and they might end up on the practice squad at best or not be near as good as some of the other UDFAs I didn't mention.

Gotta rein that in as much as threads like this that mention Mazi in the same breath as the Manster. Maybe he turns out to be a dominating Hall of Famer, but he could also just be a good run-playing NT.
So you are saying that a 'fan' should first run from the truth of what and how it took for the very best players from Dallas to become NFL stars. You actually afraid to extend respect and a valid comparison as this group of COWBOYS start their own journeys?

Up front, how many Cowboys in the Hall were below the first round or even undrafted? Is it OK to you to compare to them even though THEY are in the Hall as well? C'mon, answer some about every one!

Quit hiding behind the vanity of hero worship. Give our Hall players deserved respect...but comparison is the guiding principal in all our lives. Monitor and measure to the very best EVERY step of the way.

Strutting like a turkey in one's barn yard serves nothing but personal boundaries.

NO ONE ever claims a 'rook' achievement wise, belongs on the same footing as the truly best in sport. C'mon, get real in one's own strutting. Randy was great...that is NOT at issue.

Bob Hayes and Roger were self motivated and very hard workers...

Via NJ.com, Super Bowl winner Kelce recently was asked to talk about young tight ends who share his playing style. He didn't quite bite on that, but ...
“I don’t know if there are any that remind me of myself, but there are a few guys I’m excited about. Kyle Pitts (Falcons) being one of them. Ferguson down in Dallas and (Daniel) Bellinger over in New York.
"I’m excited to see how these guys manifest over the next few years and we’ll see where they can take their game.”

Jake Ferguson

This offseason, we see glimpses of the guy walking around with a big stick. The early talks during the draft cycle about Dallas targeting a tight end went in one ear and out the other.

That poise is a testament to his self-confidence.

In only one season, he has made a Pro Bowl player expendable, welcomed competition from someone drafted higher than him, and kept beaming.

That's a baller, which is partly what Travis Kelce was referring to.

Absolutely, for all we know Ferguson still ends up being the best TE on the team, and not by default. I wasn't concerned about losing Schultz before the draft and I'm even less concerned now.

Maximizing the Potential
Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn was ecstatic talking about the opportunity to coach up the group over the weekend as it allowed for his first look at some of the prospects he had been evaluating all offseason.
"This is absolutely one of my favorite times of the year to help train these guys and see what they can become and the vision they have," Quinn said. "I told them just the other day that it's a dream job, but it's not easy."

https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/new-oc-quinn-fassel-discuss-rookie-minicamp

And the on the carpet evaluations and developments for the season have officially started. The 'rooks' are learning how and to who they should be comparing towards!

What a GARBAGE thread...kid beat the rap on a gun charge in college only because he played ball. He's nothing like Randy was. Man....thought I'd seen it all until this thread.
I guess you want a Jason Garrett player who looks good in a suit and knows corporate speak?

Comparison on offense: 5th
Dallas
  1. 2022 EPA Rank: 10
    2022 Scoring Rank: 4
Key Additions: WR Brandin Cooks, RB Ronald Jones II, TE Luke Schoonmaker
Key Losses: G/C Connor McGovern, TE Dalton Schultz, WR Noah Brown, RB Ezekiel Elliott

The Cowboys had to deal with a lot of turnover in 2022. They also had to deal with a lot of turnovers from Dak Prescott.
The first problem should be alleviated in 2023. The Cowboys' core more or less remains intact. They lost Dalton Schultz in free agency, but he didn't follow up on his breakout 2021 campaign, only grabbing 57 receptions for 577 yards.
The Cowboys will likely be able to replace his production with a three-pronged group of young guys in Jake Ferguson, Peyton Hendershot and second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker.
Ezekiel Elliott is no longer on the roster, although a reunion isn't off the table. Whether or not that happens, it's probably good that the electric Tony Pollard is going to be the featured back after averaging 5.9 yards per touch and 1,378 total yards last season.
The most exciting addition to the group is Brandin Cooks. The Cowboys missed Amari Cooper as a receiver who could take some pressure off Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. After Prescott threw a career-high 15 interceptions, it became clear they needed more at receiver than Lamb and Michael Gallup.
Now they have Cooks, who has secondary-shifting speed and should be a force multiplier in the passing game.
An offensive line that could compete to be the best in football brings it all together. If Tyron Smith can stay healthy, it would allow them to move Tyler Smith to play left guard, giving them a great starting five of both Smiths, Tyler Biadasz, Zack Martin and Terence Steele.

3rd
Eagles

  1. 2022 EPA Rank: 3
    2022 Scoring Rank: 3
Key Additions: WR Olamide Zaccheaus, RB D'Andre Swift, QB Marcus Mariota, RB Rashaad Penny, T/G Tyler Steen
Key Losses: RB Miles Sanders, OG Isaac Seumalo, OT Andre Dillard, WR Zach Pascal, QB Gardner Minshew

General manager Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles have officially drawn up a blueprint on offense that teams are destined to be copying for the next decade.
They took an ultra-athletic quarterback in Jalen Hurts, paired him with a creative offensive mind like Shane Steichen, gave him a great offensive line and added some elite receivers.
In return, Hurts became the kind of quarterback worth a five-year, $255 million contract. In 2023, the Eagles transformed from a team with a great running game to one that can also throw all over you. Hurts was 12th in passing EPA.
The unit should be right back near the top of the statistical categories again this year. Miles Sanders and Isaac Seumalo are the most significant losses. The Eagles did a nice job of making up for Sanders' absence by trading for D'Andre Swift and signing Rashaad Penny. Both were low-risk, high-reward investments.
Olamide Zaccheaus could be a sneaky-good signing. He is a good complement in the slot, with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith being the primary targets at wide receiver.
The Eagles picked Cam Jurgens in the second round of last year's draft in anticipation of losing veterans on the interior. There was clearly a plan in place to replace who they lost without missing a beat.
The only question is in the transition from Steichen to former quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson as offensive coordinator.

SAFETIES (5)

JAYRON KEARSE

Jayron Kearse has revitalized his career since joining the Dallas defense under Dan Quinn.

In Quinn's scheme, the “Pterrordactyl” doubled all of his stats from his four years in Minnesota in only two years with the Cowboys.

Kearse plays a hybrid role, spending part of his snaps as a safety, and the other part of his snaps at linebacker.

He specializes in coverage of opposing teams' athletic tight ends, while also being a missile in run support close to the line of scrimmage.

With another year as a starter in Quinn's three safety look, Jayron looks to continue his stellar play.

DONOVAN WILSON

Another member of the Cowboys' three-headed monster at safety, Donovan Wilson signed a new contract worth $21 million over three years to remain in Dallas.

Much like Kearse, Dono plays a hybrid role between safety and linebacker, but he is much better at tackling than what he is in coverage.

Wilson led the Cowboys defense in tackles in 2022, starting all 17 games and recording 101 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 9 QB hits, 5.0 sacks, and 1 interception.

MALIK HOOKER

The tertiary complement to Dan Quinn's three-headed monster at safety, Malik Hooker brings much more in pass coverage than Kearse and Wilson.

Hooker often finds himself as the single high safety, preventing anything deep down the field while the other two safeties wreak havoc down low.

Although only credited with six starts in 2022, Hooker played 81% of the defensive snaps for the season, and tied a career-high with three interceptions.

His role for 2023 looks like a repeat of 2022.

first off we dont know that but i get he shouldn't be comped with an all-time great like Randy yet..

However White wasn't even Randy manster white until his 3rd season.

Heck White was used a fullback his freshman year of college moved to DE and didn't blossom until his 3rd year , then drafted and moved to LB, played ST his first 2 seasons and once again didn't start being Randy until year 3 when they finally moved him AGAIN to DT.. that where he became the manster. i could imagine the zone calling him jag and bust and waste of draft pick when all the played was ST his first 2 seasons.. they would have burned him down in the zone LOL

so with all the belief he may have come in as blue-chip player and then right away paid divdends, HE DID NOT.. its why fans need to stop deeming guys busts or jags before they develop. Just because they don't right away doesn't mean they cant or wont.
Was that the teams fault or Randy’s fault? If he would have been inserted in the front 4 he would have been a star right away.

This ranking makes me laugh. To think that Donald could have produced what he has against a OL that can head slap and do all sorts of things they cannot now.
Alan Page was great but Lilly, Olsen and Greene were better. And putting Randy at 8? Randle could not carry his jockstrap.

Mazi is his own man…….but if he can be 3/4 the player Randy White was, he’ll be a damn good player

its a point he was NOT randy until he found his spot and fans think 1st year label boom or bust that it wound here many want guys gone too soon that was said about guys like Steele etc now its Tolbert a total but alrady.,is he or he hasnt developed yet? uits not far fetdhed to think a player like Mazi not many hard ontheor radar can be a rasany whitye type..why not? if he doent , so what but some can at least be positive and say what if!??

maybe we shod have given up on troy after his very ugly rookie year? some wanted that other Steve guy or whoever was thr other 2 qbs brought in that years with Jimmy. fans are fickle and make up their minds too quickly.

Nothing wrong with getting excited about the young guys. Comparing them to all time greats though is kinda crazy
Not if you saw the road some of the great's took early on as i already stated. they are simply saying it is possible.
