I grade QBs by watching them play. Drew played better than Vinny. That was obvious. You can't convince me otherwise. He didn't seem to have the strong arm that was talked about when he was signed and just his overall presence was not impressive.
I also look at QB ratings because it gives a decent perspective on how a QB performed. I don't rely solely on that stat, but it is a good gauge to use. Vinny in 2004 had a 76.4 rating and Drew had a 83.7 rating.
Drew produced 25 TDs and Vinny produced 18 TDs.
Drew went 9-7 and Vinny went 6-10. That stat is misleading because it is a team game and you can look at weaknesses at the other positions and see how it effected the QB.
You keep bringing up that Julius was not around for much of the time last season. The fact remains that when Julius was around in 2004, he was very effective and carried a big load. That is also when Vinny played at his worst. Give Dallas that kind of running production the second half of this season and Bledsoe doesn't fail as miserbly as Vinny did.
Vinny had a 68.9 rating when Julius rushed for 198 yards against Seattle last season and Seattle was not a good defense last year. Drew had a 90.7 rating against a very good Carolina defense when Julius went for 194 yards this season.
Vinny better than Drew? No way. I am glad that sucker is gone. This would be another 6-10 season or worse if he were still the QB.
