But I do disagree with you on the concerns up front on offense. If there is any concern with this offensive line, I think it's that it, like the rest of the team, became lazy in recent weeks. Plus, it's dinged with Flozell's arm and Kosier out. I don't particularly think any player needs to be replaced, as we've seen that unit dominate. It's just a matter of -- as it is for this entire team -- the players playing up to their ability and not coasting.
I will agree that a few times this year the OL has looked very good - GB, Philly and Cleveland. However, they were terrible against Washington and Arizona. You do rightly point to injuries as playing a role here, but I would point out the main culprit is a lack of quality depth due to a combination of us never putting a high priority on OL (this goes back to the start of the Jerry Jones era). Combine that with many misses on first and second day picks and poor player development and we find ourselves in a position we are in now.
We gave away a 5th rounder for a vet who can't beat out Cory Proctor.
We have to start Cory Proctor who is doing a good imitation of Torrin Tucker as a guard.
We also have a one-armed Flozell Adams out there getting Romo killed because the coaching staff is too scared to put in any of his backups - maybe a one-armed Flo is better than anyone else we have if Proctor is the best of the bunch - I don't know because none of them ever get on the field to face real NFL competition but I am not overly optimistic about their potential.
This is what happens when the lifeblood of a football team - the linemen are not developed. The way to develop them is to bring in a good coach (done) and continue to draft them in bunches. Of course, this strategy will only work if you have a bunch of extra picks to work with which we had until Jerry started trading them away.
I really do think we are beginning to lose our way as a franchise.
If RW11 helps to bring a SB this year, then I think we would all agree the trade was a good one. If we fall short, I would argue that trade was shortsighted and robbed us of picks we needed to use to address areas of weakness instead of adding more glitz to the offense.
