The foul stench of the worse loss in Cowboys history has not worn off a bit. January's emasculation at the hands of the fledging Packers took a toll not seen around here before. Green Bay had no prospects as the proverbial sacrificial lamb, but instead left with all the women and fine china, laughing their way home after slapping Cowboys' manhood around for three epically long hours.

There's now no pretending left to do. This season feels like an arranged marriage to the fat girl.

Sure, it's sports, and lightning in a bottle and any given Sunday and all of that. But far too many seasons of kerplunk after kersplat have rusted away the spirit of the most ardent of optimists surrounding this rented mule. There's zero anticipation outside of just guessing how the car crash will happen in 2024.

Camp is lifeless with few spectators. The coach is a lame duck. The depth is gone. The quarterback is begging for more money. The owner looks cryptic and delusional. The star players are barking and holding out. This is a dumpster full of gasoline waiting for a spark. This ain't the formula, and everybody knows.

Our hillbilly brass clearly knows and doesn't care because the coffers are full and the tickets are bought. They certainly don't believe in their roster because they sat the offseason out entirely, even more than usual. Didn't sign anyone and let most of what they had go. They've accepted their fate and hunkered down, knowing there are gonna be a lotta road games at home as season ticket holders are flooding their tickets into the after-market.

Never have I seen it this depressing. The ending is already written. Even during the Campo years and that long stretch of Quincy/Henson/Chutch nonsense we suffered through was more intriguing than this. Probably because meaningful winning wasn't so long ago back then.

Can they win some games? Perhaps, because this is the NFL of today, and most teams are pretty bad. Can they make the playoffs? Not likely, but maybe because it's just a shoddy league. But beyond that, there's nothing.

This feels like a 7-10 team with nothing to look forward to. And that's a bad place to be.
Great post and we’ve been conditioned to feel skeptical about any real success since Jerry cant build a winner with almost three decades to experiment. What a dumpster fire.

They will fire MCarthy, Zimmer becomes interim hc, then Super Bowl week Jerry will announce the Belicheck hiring.

It's shaping up to be the best off season in 20 years.
The fog will continue to clear, Mike will be fired early, Dak will be benched or gone, 6-11 record, we'll end up with a top 10 pick.
Next trade Parsons before deadline as he and Zimmer will have a blowout ( seems sweet now, but watch).
We'll have multiple high picks and the skies the limit.
So cheer up everyone!
Unfortunately, that really is the best path forward.

The quarterback is not begging for anything. He’s always smiling. He’s the happiest person employed by the franchise. He signed a contract years ago, he’s honoring it, and he knows some team is going to pay him a lot of money to play football next season. The Cowboys, apparently, are begging Dak to accept their offer.

I expect this team might do well to win 10 games and lose 7. That's nothing to be ashamed of, if so. As always, Philly will most likely be our main competitor for the division title. I'm not counting on anything more than that if we get to the playoffs, though. Let's see what this team has to offer.

The only thing that gives me hope is that the most comparable offseason I can remember to this one was the offseason going into the 2014 season. Coming off three 8-8 seasons, Garrett was on a lame duck deal if memory serves, everyone wanted Romo gone, everyone was just sick of the mediocrity and wanted change. We had just spent high draft picks re-fortifying the o-line, gotten a new D-coordinator, and then out of nowhere had arguably the best Cowboys season we've seen since 1995, and was the closest we've come to the NFCC since. I can't believe that was a decade ago.

Already sold almost all of my season tickets. I'll watch, but nothing like usual.
You know what is funny on my part? I have a Cowboy helmet tat on my left leg about the size of a tennis ball that I have had for years. Well, yesterday I went to a place that cuts hair and also does tattoos. While I was getting my hair cut, in the other room was the tattoo artist.

After my hair cut I went into the other room and talked to the tattoo artist about covering up the Cowboy helmet with something else. I showed him my tat and he said that he will work something up and that I can book an appointment this coming Monday. So, I'm going to get rid of that Cowboy helmet and get it covered with whatever he comes up with.

Not sure why I posted this, but that is how I feel and am glad and can't wait until this coming Monday.

7-10 is optimistic. And the cherry on top is listening to Cap Boy, who isn't as delusional as his dad; he just cares even less, which is more terrifying.

That demonstrates trust lost in a big commitment. Totally understand.

Then you are switching teams I assume. I'll never erase my Cowboys tattoo. My love for the team is deeper than a terrible owner, entitled and overpaid mediocre players. Is it hard to be a fan these days? Absolutely. Do I have ANY hope this year or for the near future? No. But my fandom is bigger than this current toxic organization. I can only hope I outlive it and see a new dawn. I'm not optimistic though.

If the oline is strong, the team will be strong. Early observations are leaning in a positive direction.
