Schramm was a football innovator and enabler with strong football creds. Of course he relied on Brandt and Landry, but he was an essential contributor. As Schramm began focusing more and more on marketing the star, both he and the Cowboys began losing the edge he originally helped to hone.Hostile;2621085 said:So what you are saying is that Tex Schramm never relied on Gil Brandt at all in 29 years of working together? He was the initiator of every action?

Jerry has faults, but the guy has also been a football innovator. Give him some credit. When the NFL signed with Reebok, he signed with Nike. Then other teams followed suit and singed individual deal and increased their overall worth. He did it with Pepsi too.ravidubey;2621142 said:Schramm was a football innovator and enabler with strong football creds. Of course he relied on Brandt and Landry, but he was an essential contributor. Ironically I always felt Jerry came in looking like the Schramm who left.
I have been told that you post mostly at DCC nowadays and have ripped me over there. If you haven't then I apologize for thinking otherwise.Hostile, I don't know you but I respect much of what you've said in many posts, though I don't always agree. I'm sure most posters feel that way about each other.
I'm going to disagree with you a bit. I think Tex was handicapped by Bum Bright who did not want to spend the money it took to do proper research and the team paid for it.That said, while Tex Schramm was an innovator and a great Dallas Cowboy, he ceased to become a great GM the moment marketing the team and taking shortcuts became more important than the football work that made him who he was.
I disagree with you again. Tex did not stay out of the limelight. In fact many criticized him for being more powerful than Rozelle. The best GM's started out as and remained football guys from start to finish and usually stayed out of the limelight.
Then you have my full support. Can we get a billboard?DallasCowpoke;2621138 said:Yeaaaaaaa, but only if it's Figgy Pudding. I mean seriously, he's a damn Limey!

His innovations have been more on the side of marketing and I do not deny that. However, the primary function of the GM is to put together a team of 53 and despite their failings we have a good team.
I wish Jerry would fire Wade, and hire Shanahan, but the truth is I put more focus on the failures of the coaches and players than I do Jerry at this point. He assembled a very good 53 man roster under the cap. That is his job. You can see it otherwise and that is your right.
I think this team will win. As assembled and that we are moving in the right directions. Do I think it's being done perfectly? NO, not by any wild stretch of the imagination.
Hostile;2620938 said:Yet another deflection instead of answering the question. You aren't even good at it.
Just like George Preston Marshall, who first brought up television as a way to increase the exposure and value of the game, Jerry succeeded in creating value.Iamtdg;2621245 said:That has jack nor squat to do with football.
Thanks for your opinion.Umm... no we don't. We may have a lot of talent, but we a crap poor team.
I have no idea what you are talking about. When did he hire Shanahan? I would love it if he did, but he hasn't.Your untouchable GM hired all of those coaches. In the wrong damn order, I must add.
Now I'll do what you and Jed_70 try and do. So you wanted us to keep Stewart and Read. Good plan. What is being done that even comes close to dictating us moving in the right direction? By firing Brian Stewart and Bruce Read? Yeah, ok.
You don't know Reeves role any more than I do because it hasn't been announced. Your bile towards me is misdirected but they will enjoy giving you high fives at Central.By bringing in a coach to coach the coaches? You go with that.
Thank you for proving my point.Iamtdg;2621255 said:There is no answer to the question, genius.
Nobody, not even Carnac the Magnificent pull a name out of his *** to say "This will make you win guaranteed".
What I can guarantee is that this team will not win again in any decent amount until after Jerry Jones is no longer running the football side of it.

The last line is your bitterness, not a fact. You can't see the future any better than Karnak could.

I don't believe in magic, but I'm not the one pimping a fairy tale.Iamtdg;2621273 said:No, but I damn sure can see the past.
And, that is all I need to see to know that this man will never put the organization above himself. In his mind, he is much bigger than the organization.
Thanks for letting me pimp the site. You all can go back to your comfortable little holes and keep believing that this team will somehow magically get better.
