I would put this episode at the bottom of the barrel for the season. Just didn't feel it honestly.

I thought the scripting was much better in this episode than it was in the "Carl" episode that kicked off the second half of the season.

I certainly understand why some wouldn't care for this episode with less action/more character development.

With all the characters the show has a dichotomy where too much action and we end up knowing nothing (nor caring) about the characters. However with episodes heavy in character development (which there haven't been) the action is going to take a back seat.

The show needs episodes like this one in order to understand the characters more deeply.

One of the aggravating parts of the show is the inconsistent plot twists and I think much of that is due to simply not understanding the characters well enough to understand their motives for doing what they do.

I liked the episode myself.

The show is just progressing ridiculously slow and it's inevitable that it's going to be like this until something happens in the last 5 minutes of the season finale.

The show has peaked for this season though and right now they are just letting the characters reflect on their recent and distant past and basically just time wasting for the rest of this season.

I don't mind it. Maybe that 6 years of Lost conditioned me to accept this type of storytelling.

I think it's lazy the way it they're attempting to develop characters this season. It seems too forced. They could have had the same development in five minutes of smart dialog that they had wasting the entire episode with Daryl's hissy fit and the girl's new found alcoholism. How old is that girl supposed to be anyway?

The only way this episode pays dividends to me is if Beth either really becomes a bigger character in the show or she dies in a way that really impacts Daryl (I suspect the latter). I haven't had too many problems with the other episodes in 2014 besides this one personally.

It was a very good episode that mirrored the Carl's angst and Michonne's past episodes.

Beth came of age and Daryl officially moved away from under the thumb of Meryl and his Dad.

I see two distinct story lines with Beth:

She hooks up with Daryl.

She kills Lizzy to protect Judith.

I think the problem many of us have, is that these so called "character development" episodes, don't really develop character. If they do, it's very minimal, and uninteresting And half the time, the characters (Carl!) are reverting back to previous behaviors, so the show is taking a step back with the development in those cases. I think when most people say the show is boring, and I include myself in this group, it's not to say that there has to be action and zombie killing, but that the plot needs to be moving forward in some way (and if that way is through character development, it needs to be done intelligently and interestingly). Just because someone wants there to be more happening, does not mean it has to be action, and I think that is a common misconception by many who try to defend many of these episodes.

I think they needed to cut some of it down and show more of the others. They still could have accomplished what they did. That episode didn't further the storyline any.

The storyline is fine...we don't even know the amount of time that has passed since the prison fell...the producers have said that they wanted to explore how the characters react to being split apart.

They are exploring the growth of the characters and that requires development. The characters will evolve and then find each other again.

Think of the possibilities:

Rick or Daryl find Tyresse and Carol together. Lots of potential fireworks there.

Beth finds Maggie and they have a reversal of roles as Beth takes charge.

Glenn comes with outsiders and meets Michonne. Governor mistrust will obviously emerge.

What becomes of Lizzy who is obviously crazy?

Will we have romance between Rick and Michonne? Daryl and Carol or Beth? Maybe the two kids coming of age Carl and Beth?

What will they find at Terminus?

if you want total action in 2 hours, watch a movie. i can't deny that at times i feel like i follow this out of commitment, i get frustrated by their own success as well.

i want the end. now.

but they're not writing a 2 hour movie. they're trying to keep a series going. yes, i'd change things, yes, i'd rewrite **** and yes, i find inconsistencies annoying.

but i'm still here.

beth and daryl are so very opposite in their abilities, function, pecking order in the world. i think the break up gave the writers a chance to put people together to develop a story. that's what they're doing. i thought this last weeks show was the best of the series cause i dig character development.

don't get me wrong. i'd trade carl for a bucket of rusted washers. whether it's his character, his acting, or the writing, there simply is no value to the character and i find it a waste of time when you try to develop lost oxygen.

but this last show, beth admitted she likely didn't deserve to be alive. look back, she's right. she's always been background eye candy with no use, no focus and no advancement in things. need someone to hold a baby, beth i hear you calling.

and i hope you'll be alright.

alcohol is a low level excuse and/or crutch. but it also pins her to her alcoholic dad who we recently lost. while i'd cry too if i had to drink peach schnaps, it would be for different reasons.

wake up daryl.

but did she deserve to be alive? well, she is. this show put some meat on the bone, so to speak. i've been frustrated with this season for not being an action packed zombie movie i grew up on.

but that's that not what this is.

this 1 show put 2 very different people into a climax. no they're not going to have sex tomorrow and no beth isn't going to die to suit your instant needs. *i* need to understand it's going to take awhile to tell this story. it's almost a grass roots movement that defies todays audience. almost.

maybe challenges.

i do think it was a slow story.

but i loved every minute of it.

daryl is a star of the show. beth ignored. so putting them together gives them a shot to build both.

and they did.

if not enough zombies got killed in the process i simply don't care. beth grew up and she can read people. she read daryl even if wrong. she knew how to fix his demons.

some stories take a long time to tell and you're either willing to give it, or not.

this show is one of my favorites.

Nice. I caught the lyrics from Kiss's "Beth". I watched Peter Criss perform the song right before he was dumped again.

this series has not gone the way i thought it would. at times i feel like i watch it out of duty, not story.

but i see what they're trying to do.

they're NOT trying to give you the 80s in 1 hour. they're telling a story and yes, it will take time. i've hated the IGS, so i gotta hate 'em now.

yes i see a lot of inconsistencies to the story. but i'm watching a story about zombies.

live in the reality you choose to live in.

and peter chris can't sing to save his life, but damn such a good song.

I liked it too. That snake suuuuuuuure looked tasty :)

What I found ironic about the episode is that neither of the characters are in the comics whatsoever.

Again, I don't think that is really the problem most people have. I certainly don't. The zombies became an afterthought on this show long ago, and about 99% of the zombie killing is pointless filler as well. The problem is that the story they do tell is told inefficiently. Some things do take time, but they waste a lot of time on material that doesn't do anything. It doesn't advance the story, it doesn't develop character (or even goes backwards in many instances), and doesn't expand on any ideas or reveal something new...it just is. They throw in a few minutes here and there to try and pass off some profound development to excuse the vast majority of the rest of the show that is simply them dragging their feet. They easily could tell the story more efficiently, develop just as much, if not more character, and condense about 3 episodes into 1.

Great song. Vocals wasn't a strong point of a Kiss concert, but it was worth every penny that I paid for the tickets. Best concert that I have ever been to.

I dont necessarily need more action, but I wouldnt mind if they sped up the story a bit. I thought they could of cut the last episode in half and still got the same points across.

I didn't mind it but I agree with others that they could have got the same main points across in half the time or three-fourths of the time. In doing so they could have shown a little of one of the other groups as well.

They are catering to the ladies with a Daryl filled episode. :D
