Obviously this is the guy we want and obviously he's asking for more than we want to give him.

I don't how obvious it is. We did offer Moore a contract first. Maybe we did because Waters was asking for too much. Or maybe we did because we liked Moore better. Plus, like many people have said, Waters probably doesn't want to sign until after preseason.

I'll leave it up to the FO to decide what to do on Waters. They'll want to check him out physically to determine if he's worth spending what he'll want. Someone who hasn't played or practiced in 18 months is far removed from a sure thing to be capable of holding up physically. Hopefully, they'll make a wise decision.

It was said before we signed (or almost signed) Moore that waters was the top choice and its being said again that waters is still the top choice.

Then, last year bought band-aids in Nate Livings and Bernadeau. We all see - even Jerry and Stephen thankfully - that they are not answers to the problem. Marginal backups at best.
Until I hear Jerry or Stephen directly address this, who am I kidding they will never admit they were wrong.

A second chance to correct a foolish mistake from two years ago. It's such an obvious no brainer, yet I can't help but feel that we'll screw this up trying to nickel and dime him.

Just pay the guy what he wants and fix this mess, it's not like we haven't wasted millions on lesser talents in the past.

I'm pretty sure Dallas will sign Waters sometime in the next few days.

Just too much smoke for there to be no fire.

no way to know if he is football ready or not. he is 37 and has'nt played in a year and a half. i understand they have talked to him but if they want him they will need to act fast because time is getting short. you want him in camp a few weeks to learn the sytem and get familiar with those around him. so we shall see, he is certainly worth looking at

And everyone realizes that no one else on our team "played" either from January through June, right? That year & a half thing is just a phrase to make the situation sound worse. He missed one season. Not a season and a half.

@espn_macmahon: I'm told that Brian Waters is in great shape and feels refreshed after a year off from football.

That's good to know. I just hope we don't over spend to convince him. While the move has great upside if it works out, he is still 36 and hasn't played in a yr. Hopefully they can work out an incentive laden deal where if Waters plays 16 games and plays well he gets his asking price plus some.

Well, he didn't play for all of last season. And nobody else played the past 6 months either, but that's what training camp is for. Remember all that talk about how Romo was fat? That was 6 months of off-time for you. It's harder to get back in football form when you're older too. He hasn't played in 2 offseasons and one full season, and he's 36, and we expect him to sign the day before Game 1 and play like an All Pro?

Maybe.

But frankly, we don't know what he's done for conditioning since he last played. Romo didn't just miss OTAs, he couldn't work out. But just because Waters wasn't with a team doesn't mean he sat idle the whole time.

Personally, I think TC is overrated as far as importance for veterans from a physical standpoint. If it isn't then Jay Ratliff is doomed for 2013. There are several examples of players who've skipped camp for one reason or another and been just fine. Now the year layoff, for a guy his age? Legit question. But personally, I'd simply characterize it as missing one season, not a year and a half.

I kind of agree. It's amazing how many guys can miss training camp and still be able to step in immediately and contribute.

Most are professionals who know how the game is played and prepare themselves to be ready for the right job offer at any time, especially players like Waters who know what it takes to be successful. Now, his body might be at the point where it just naturally gives out on him, but there hasn't been an indication that that time has arrived yet, so it doesn't hurt to find out.

What camp? Nobody is paying him so why does he need to get his "butt" to camp?

My opinion is that there is mutual interest on both sides, but money and camp are the two factors causing delay. He held out for the Patriots camp in 2011 so looks like more of the same. He has no experience with our line so I don't like the idea of him arriving after camp is over. I want him to start game 1 and we need him here to groove it all in.

Is anyone else really bothered by the fact that Waters is interested in playing, but only "at his price"? I dont care what the situation is, any player that is primarily motivated by the contract he signs is not a guy I want...

Sorry. But this makes no sense. Players are offering a service, they aren't obligated to play for any price owners choose.

Do you work no matter people would pay you?
