The World Cup Thread

Well this certainly was an entertaining run by the US, but I'm not sure if I'd call it a great run. In the end, we did exactly what was expected of us. I've got to question the moves that Bradley made with the starting lineup that ultimately ended up with us having to waste at least one of our subs.

If we are going to ever make a real run in this tournament, we have got to finish when we've got a clear path to the goal, and for pete's sake play some defense at the beginning of games. (I'm sure there's more but those are the things that stick out in my mind)

Overall, I am proud of the heart that our team showed, but in the end we just weren't good enough when push came to shove. We now have four years to get ready for the next World Cup, and you can bet that there are a few more Americans who will be ready to cheer for their team once again in 2014

Lineups were pathetic, and you're absolutely right. The more times you give up goals in the first 5 minutes of the game, you're going to lose more often than not.

I just hope one day we take this sport over.

There is no reason for the US to not have superior talent in this sport as well.

We have a good fundemental team but America should be right there with Brazil and Spain when it comes to talent.

Our best athletes play football and basketball.

We have enough athletes to go around. We just need more highschools to get involved.

Some of these track stars who can't catch a pass or shoot a basket need to try kicking a ball.

Title IX, or at least the way that many universities respond to it, has an important role too.

Don't forget money, here is a breakdown of average salaries per league from 2008:

NBA - $4.9 million
NFL - $1.3 million
MLB - $2.5 million
NHL - $1.8 million

And three of the top soccer leagues:

England- $1.2 million
Spain- $900,000
France- $700,000

If we could get the German keeper to kick FGs we'd be set, that ball must have traveled at least 80 yards in the air before it landed on Klose's foot for that 1-0 goal

This was worth seeing England qualify for the final 16 for

2-0 Germany :laugh2:

And just as i finish typing that 2 quick goals from England (they got screwed on that 2nd that ball was inn)

2-1

And you think the Americans got cheated out of a goal.

That was at least a yard over the line, if it had been close you could understand it, but that is total ineptitude by the linesman.

Yep, the number of years before you watch another game of football :D

TBF, England have been outplayed and out fought by Germany.
They look very good on the counter attack, helped by some inept defending by England.

At the end of the first half they looked a bit shakey, and maybe had England's second goal have stood it could have been different, but ultimately they were much better than England.

Oh well, there's always the 2012 Euro's to look forward too

As I said earlier in the thread we were garbage.

It's unbelievable to think that some of the England players earn up to £200k per week. These players are so overpaid it's not true.

Back to cricket and rugby....

Congrats to Germany. They know what a ball looks like and can pass it.

& for those who don't know who Marta is... She's just a ridiculously talented soccer player. Exhibit A:

She is unbelievable. And that move in that clip was pretty sweet.

As for England, they played very tight, looked old, slow, undisciplined and disorganized. The much younger players for Germany were exactly the opposite.

Too bad Rooney couldn't suit-up for his country this year.

Seriously though, i haven't had a chance to watch all the games like i've wanted to this year but i've watched at least two other England games in the earlier stage and he was non-existant.
