The Zeke Conundrum

So we have to think all our players are good and that we never make poor roster decisions?

We made a mistake signing Elliott to a long term deal. But because we are now stuck with him and his contract I hope he runs for 2000 yards this season. But I also won’t go stupid and pretend that signing him wasn’t a questionable decision.
If we make "poor roster decisions" it is TOTALLY management. Does that give us free reign to beeech and moan at the PLAYER? Incessantly? Maybe... I guess...if you are a miserable person, trying to convince others to be as miserable as you. (not you you....just in general)

Zeke has been a good player that like the whole rest of our team....seems maligned or cursed even. WHO...have we had that pleases us...in performance and contract? Like nobody? Sooner or later? We fans are pathetic....and I don't necessarily blame us. It's a little bit like a couple that has sudden sex deprivation. We need SOME satisfaction to overlook the faults. Things CAN get wonky without that big bang. :D

Do we keep Zeke for next season ( not this coming season)? If not do we make a move on Sermon in round 2? Zeke makes a ton of money. Sermon is a cheaper version of Zeke imho. It is an interesting take I think. It bears thought...

Wow, so you want to now spend a 2nd round pick on a RB after the Zeke debacle?

Sadly, I believe Zeke's salary was just guaranteed for this year and next year. I would to drop the anchor IMMEDIATELY but we cant.

If there was some way to get rid of him after this season for a cap hit 7 million or under then possibly it might happen. But typically when Jerry has to pay a guy big money he is included to keep him.

The only running back Id waste a pick on this year is Ben Mason....FB Michigan.

Whenever we move on from Zeke, I would not look for another power back. Look for speed and open field moves.

Bring in some competition for Zeke. Use a middle round pick on a RB. If he fumbles. Sit his fat head down. I don’t care how much he makes. If he comes in fat. Bench him. Competition Only makes the team better
Pollard is pretty good competition already!

So two more seasons and its a 7 million dollar cap hit? That really sucks. Worst contract in Cowboys history. Is there a worse one?
If anyone recalls he ran hard the first couple of games last year.

Then saw how bad the defense was and checked out mentally.

That's the maturity level.

Not sure if this has been brought up....but Sermon doesn't have the track record (no pun intended) Zeke had. He had a couple good games....then injured. Not very Zeke like.

Meanwhile, in Ohio State's 2014 NC run....zeke had 800+ yards and 10 TD's against 4 of the very best teams the NCAAA could thow at them...mighty 'bama and media darling Ducks among them.

So, Mr. Lover...are you saying Trey can't be a productive NFL RB? Of course I am not saying that. But saying as "cheaper version"...at about the same time in their careers....is disingenuous. Yep...he would APPEAR to have some serious skill...but hasn't proven that over the long haul and big games. I wouldn't mind having him when we ditch Zeke.
Sermon is a mid round talent who lacks burst and long speed. JAG.

Zeke's got sloppy and lazy. The effort just isn't there, certainly not for $90M.

Cut him, eat the sunk costs, and pick up a street free agent power back to replace him. Maybe that would light a fire under Zeke's *** and he'd play hard for his new team, but you're never going to bring that effort level out of him here. Not with the contract security and owner-coddling that he has.

O
Elliot had one good season his rookie season. After that it’s been nothing but turmoil for him. So I kind of agree let’s see how we can do with everything in tact. Nothing hanging over our heads healthy. And then you’re right next year is the year
One good season? Are you dumb? Dude has 2 rushing titles, & would have 3 had he not been suspended. He led the league in rushing during the 10 games he played that season.

I’m not the biggest Zeak fanboy, but some of you sound straight ridiculous.

I didn't see that his 2022 salary is guaranteed already. Thanks. But they can still trade him and save $1.6 million against the CAP. His remaining bonus money after this season is $10.8 million but his 2022 salary is $12.4 million.

Now look at things realistically and tell me what team will trade for a back who's production has dropped every year since his rookie season and has to pay him 12.4 mil for the 1st year they get him? They try a rookie of their own that cost a lot less. Elliott's contract and loss in production has made him untradeable.

he only had 240+ rushes. Same number as 2017, when he only played in 10 games.

Dallas struggled to run in 6 games last season.

expecting him to run behind that OL last year was asking a lot.

Crawford’s was in my opinion. $45 million and the guy wasn’t even a true starting player. Hard to top that debacle.

When Dallas comes out and tries to pound the ball with Zeke they are predictable, lumbering, and NOT dangerous. THIS was a big reason we started out slowly in certain games because it was ineffective.

Zeke experiment has largely failed and is actually no longer needed as its clear the strength of this offense is the passing game. Zeke actually holds the offense back.

I don’t have the time or energy today to waste on such a piece of human gar-bage but I want to let my bud @Cowboysheelsreds053 know that I’m aware of the thread and I may comment further if he’s lucky.

What bothers me the most is that what is reported to be one of the best offensive lines in the game, paired with reported to be one of the top power running backs, struggles so often in short yardage and red zone situations. That’s where both are supposed to earn their money. And they routinely fail.
