Basically what I’ve been saying.. Dalton will get us Dak like results and he doesn’t need 40 million to do it.

I believe that too, that when it comes to wins and loses the results wouldn't be too different between Dalton and Dak. Dak may have more value than Dalton, because of age, which is a reason you might build a team around him. I thought the deal Jerry offered him was fair, having even adjusted up the value I saw as fair. And I think that Dak has talent, but there is a line where overpaying hurts the team more than the talent benefits the team. This season before Dak got injured was going south both on the defensive side and also on the offensive side. This team has too many holes to overpay.

Check it out, the bold. See, this is utter nonsense. This clown, that's what he calls everyone that does not agree with him, thinks Dak is SO GREAT that the team does not even need a top 5 line or a top 5 defense anymore...hell, they don't even need Zeke because Dak is so great...hell, pretty soon he's going to say that even the receivers aren't needed.

Pretty soon this clown is going to say all that is needed is a center to snap Dak the ball and he will do the rest to win the game...to hell with all the other players! Just put Dak and the center out there, that's all that is needed. Two players, Dak and the Center against the whole other team...Dak will win! woot...!

So, who is the clown?

You are obviously. If the Cowboys had an average D they are 5-0. Dak scored 37 points a game with a bad Oline. Or didn't you notice that he broke Kurt Warners record for the most passing yards in the first 4 games of the season? Or that he was on pace to shatter Peyton Mannings all time NFL passing record?
Not paying attention? Dumb? Which is it?

Ive already said you go with Dalton why would you not? but lets be honest, if Dalton wins with this defense he will have a monster year...do you think his offers from other teams will be 20-25 mill, thats what im saying...your not getting a good QB for that not in this QB market.
Dalton is 33. The offers will be more in the 15-20 mil range.

This is going to be a really interesting last two thirds of the season. As you probably already know I am not a huge Dak fan. I like the guy. I think he's a good quarterback. I just don't think he's worth top dollar. That is my major concern. What Andy Dalton does over the rest of the season is most likely going to determine Dak's future with the Cowboys. Andy thinks he's a starting QB in the NFL and has stated as much. He can't have a better situation to prove that. But I have to say that I am not optimistic. I hope I'm wrong. But I do agree with you that Andy will have similar success as Dak. Maybe not as good, but close to it.

Not sure about Daks leverage.

That was a nasty injury and he has A LOT of rehab ahead. If he has any setbacks..what happens?

The FO has to place it's chips to decide if it can afford to bet the house on Dak. I would think they will not.

Just look at Alex Smith. He has been out a longtime now with his injury. It was a bit more than Dak's but you can not assume Dak just returns to where he left off.

Do you still just go ahead and pay Dak his big contract not knowing if he returns to form? I can not see that. Tag him again and see what happens but if Dalton leaves then you better get DiNucci ready quickly.

Does everyone remember Coopers catch in the 4th qtr? For the last 2 years, that pass was thrown behind Cooper 90% of the time. The few times he did catch it, he had to reach back. I'm encouraged by the fact that he hit cooper in stride and allowed him to get yac. He can do that 6 times a game with accurate passes.

Yes..I noticed that.

What I also remember last year was at least 5-6 times Dak would completely underthrow the WR and instead hit the DB right b/w the number and the DB would be so shocked..

he would drop it harmlessly.

Should have been a pick 6 the other way.

Dak has played with Lady Luck on his shoulder for years.

Sorry to see what happened Sunday.

Interesting observation. So are you asserting that this would happen 5 or 6 times a game or per season? If it happened 5 or 6 times a game I would think Dak's completion percentage would be a lot lower than it is. Somebody's misrepresenting the facts here. Perhaps there is bias coloring your vision here? Dak is #1 in yards, #1 in pass plays over 40 yards, #4 in pass plays over 20 yards, 13th in completion percentage, 6th in yards per attempt.... and on and on and on.. He is among the league leaders in damn near every statistical category. Based on "luck?"

Come on man!!

You may also have noticed that lazy floater Dalton threw on the out to Cooper that the DB dropped? If he catches that it's a pick 6. But maybe that was skill.. Maybe Dalton threw it with English on it so the DB couldn't catch it right?

Jones family are nuts. If Dalton wins the division there mentalitiy will be "if Dalton can win the division then Dak can win the NFC championship".

There not going to do the reserve and be like "uh Dalton is just as good but cheaper". Remember these are the Jones your talking about

Hmmm.....tell Jerry and Stephen that. They're paying one $3M and the other one $31M but there's not a wide gap.

I've said functionally, Dalton will be fine......for now, as in this year. But give me Dak long-term coz we're getting a high-level player who locks down the most important position for the next 7-8 years. Turning this team over to Dalton, risk starting over or resetting the position within the next 3 years.

And BTW......IF Dalton comes even close to forcing a decision or closing the gap, it means he would have had a hell of a year, as in Super Bowl appearance. Who you think will now ALSO be asking for $35M plus.

This line of thinking Is dumb.

In the NFL, your next play can be your last

Also, why do people keep thinking Dak will be here for 8 plus years? The guy won't even sign a 5 year deal what makes you think he won't pull the same crap in 3 years he is now?

Dak ain't loyal, it's a business.

People are worried about a guy being here 8 years down the road when the same guy won't commit to 5 years lol

I like how we can be compared to the browns in terms of the type of franchise we are but on the other hand say dalton can succeed here because of the terrible situation he had in Cincinnati. Is the gap between cincy and cle that big?

I think 20 is probably his max. Even with a good year, it will be well south of Tannihill who was 31 when he signed I believe. Dalton halfway through next season. Tannihill also got the AFCCG. I dont see anyway the Cowboys get past the first round.

16 AAV+ should net us a 3rd comp. Maybe even 15. Quinn was gonna net that at 14 before he got bumped down

Nice. You share an opinion with an idiot. I will surely take your opinion more seriously now.

also. If/when Dalton peforms, what do you expect go. To cost? Just curious. Because it’s never been about this year

On a side note Im starting Dalton in my fantasy league this week. Ami crazy?

Not crazy but I'd say it indicates you're willing to take a risk!

Despite my saying so, here's hoping you won't be sorry! ;)

Naw.

This was my personal observation about some of his nagging habits. I have discussed it before and several posters knew what I was saying.

This was back in 2019 not this year. I do not think it's a stat they track although somebody may know more on this. Some people here get into analytics more than I do.

I do not have the mind nor desire to poke around with that stuff. So my observations are qualitative not annotated. Annotative is a little too geeky for me. Makes me think of pencils in my top pocket and slide rules. Not my style.

Hope that helps.

Lazy floater? He had no business even throwing that pass. I was worried about losing the game after seeing that. The one good pass he threw was to Gallup on the run to the sideline. The actual lazy floater was the deep ball to Gallup that he caught anyway. That had too much air under it. Hopefully he cleans that up. He looked a little nervous in the pocket. But I guess that's to be expected.
