This is JJ's team and he's screwing it up.

"John McVay, one of the 49ers' vice presidents, called me just at the end of the 1992 training camp, and we were actually talking about trading other players. John mentioned Haley. I said there was an interest there. (talk about trying to keep a poker voice in a phone conversaition! Charles Haley was the premier pass rusher in the league. We'd been busy shoring up our secondary, but if we could get Haley in the defensive front for passing situations, that would be a leap in our pass defense that we hadn't anticipated.) John and I talked about it initially, and then Jerry Jones and Carmen Policy, the 49ers' President, finalized the trade." - Jimmy Johnson

But...but....I heard it was all Jerruh's idea.

Reasons for Jerry's Super Bowls:

1.Jerry spent alot of money
2.Jerry had the balls to fire Landry
3.Jerry hired Jimmy
4.Jimmy tore the team down and built the best team of all time.
Was there anything else?

Jimmy wanted to trade Irvin, Jerry stopped him.

Jimmy wanted Walsh over Aikman, Jerry stopped him.

Jimmy only wanted Blair Thomas as a RB, Jerry stuck to his guns for Emmitt.

Yeah it was all Jimmy building that team.

Where did you hear Jimmy wanted to trade Irvin, that was his boy from da U. I don't believe that, but I was young back then so I don't remember Jimmy's 1st 2 years.

Who would it be appealing to right now?

What quality coach is available?

If this were 2008, you would see a slew of upper tier coaching talent and I am completely convinced most would find Dallas a very appealing location.

It just seems that way right now because honestly there is nothing available but the backwash.

If Garrett was just hired as the coach, I would believe you. But this is another myth that keeps living, even though it was completely dispelled four years ago.

Jones is an opportunist. The opportunities and options aren't there right now.

There isn't a whole lot available, but Lovie is an option, although I'm not sure what it'd cost to get him away from the Bears a year early. Rivera also sounds intriguing.

As for the appealing part, like I said, it will remain so as long as Jerry makes it that way. He did what was necessary, step back, in order to get BP in here. After the Switzer/Gailey/Campo years that's what it had to take or the job would've gone the way of the Raiders'.

Coach Parcells has been very complimentary of him as an employer. Sorry, that means more to me than someone on a message board who likes to repeat the same boring, tedious scare stories.

That's because he actually let BP have control, like he did with Jimmy.

The "scare stories" were true with the other three HC's we had.

He's never micromanaged, not to the degree Davis has by dictating what assistants stay or go, what type of offense the team will run. Nothing of the kind. His problem is that he meddled in the player side of things and allowed his star players to run the franchise. Years of pandering to the likes of Aikman, Emmitt Smith and now Roy Williams is what has hurt more than any perceived meddling on his part.

No, he's never been as bad as Al Davis. The pandering to players and undermining the HC's authority in the late '90's/early '00's was a big problem. The other problem was the type of coach he wanted to hire. Back then he didn't want a dominant figure like Jimmy or BP, he wanted basically glorified coordinators so he could control all the other aspects. That, along with his pandering and personnel decisions is what was a detriment to the organization.

All 3 of those things came directly from Jimmy Johnson's mouth during TV interviews.

Jerry or no Jerry, the job will always appeal to carpetbagging moneywhores like Bill and neophytes like Garrett looking to climb the ladder.

Carpetbagger? AHHH, sounds like someones still sore about getting a mudhole stomped in'em 140 years ago.

I've never once heard that Jimmy wanted to trade Irvin.

Jimmy did draft Walsh to compete with Aikman, but Aikman outperformed him and we still managed a first round pick for Walsh.

First I've ever heard about Jimmy wanting Blair Thomas. Thomas went in the top 5 that year. There was never any talk of us wanting to move up that high to get him.

You want to provide some documentation to support these claims, or should we just dimiss them now?

Jimmy never wanted to trade Irvin...he did draft Alvin Harper because he was worried Irvin would never be able to stay healthy enough after two bad knee injuries to pan out...obviously after the 91 season that was never a thought again

Jimmy never "wanted" Walsh over Aikman...he did the right thing at the time, giving the team multiple options at QB...and had he known we were gonna go 1-15 and have the #1 pick in 1990, he'd have never used that supp pick on Walsh...Jimmy also said they came to the conclusion very quickly that they'd trade Walsh to the highest bidder in 1990

and the Blair Thomas stuff is not true either...Jimmy actually wanted a couple of defensive players badly in the 1990 draft, when he couldnt get either of them he traded up for Emmitt, who he couldnt believe was still there

Exactly.

Funny how some have to make crap up in order to fit their agenda.

I really hope you never had any credibility here, because if so, you lost it all today.

Who did Jimmy want for him (Irvin), what year?

Jimmy knew better than to trade Mike, he was the heart and soul of the dynasty.
