Because during this off-season everyone put their heads together and came out thinking "there's far too much ball spinning going on". Shame for shame NFL, address the concussions

lol @ the bold.

I think they have already addressed concussions though. You aren't allowed to hit anyone anymore unless you are both facing each other and you make eye contact and say "Hello" first.

I'm fine with it all. Call me old, but it's totally out of hand. Every play has some sort of "look at me" type act. Celebrate on the sidelines after the series is over.

I can understand that. However, this is going over board. I was thinking in the 80s and the 90s when there were celebrations, teammates still embraced the player. I wonder if this rule is enforced when one person is celebrating while the rest of the team is not congratulating the accomplishment the player made (especially during blowout games or when there is a penalty on the play).

I'm ok with celebrating as long as you make a play but some guys just dance like they just won the Superbowl after a routine catch or tackle.

I do understand, and agree to some extent, with those of you who don't care for some of the celebrating.

I think some of it can be a bit over the top and just annoying at times, as well.

However, i think we should all be able to agree that basically banning all celebrating is a bit over the top, as well.

Its ridiculous enough to ask guys to ease up on hitting players.. but to take it even further and tell them to ease up on their emotions is taking it to a level of borderline insanity.

Its football.. its a game about passion and emotion.. its a violent game.. if people don't want to play it, they have a choice not to.

Don't go changing it all up to the point where girls will be able to play soon, though.

I know some of you guys are "old fashioned" and can get behind this, but I can all but guarantee none of you took exception to Irvin doing the first down signal with the little football swirl.

I agree some of it needs to be toned down. I don't think there should be any coordinated celebrations, i.e. the grenade in the endzone, nor do I think there should be any elaborate individual celebrations (Cruz's salsa), but no salut? Are you kidding me? No flexing? Rubbish! I say put a time limit on all celebrations, say 3 seconds and if it goes over call a delay of game penalty. Boom, done.

This is just an absolute control and power play by the commish. Nothing more.

Ugh. These are adults. Whose delicate sensibilities are being offended? The 70 year old "get off my lawn" fan? Overall, I can't see how this is good for expanding the popularity of the game, particularly among the desirable younger demographic. It's odd for a commissioner that has been adept in growing the sport, whatever else we think of him and other rule changes he's overseen.

Brief celebrations are fun for teammates, the crowd, and most of the TV audience. It's an intense game; let them express themselves. The one I laughed at the most was the no military salutes. Seriously? Come on. Clearly there have to be some limits, and I think the current limits are more or less reasonable enough - although I'd be alright with banning the first down arm signal; that one is way overdone and is just annoying now.

Please explain the bold section with examples.

He has been adept in trying to force globalization and failing so far. I would say that's about it.

The only place he has really been adept is getting players to accept "safer" ways to play the game and instituting rule changes to enforce these changes.

Will anyone stop watching the games on TV?

Will anyone cease buying tickets, paying for parking and beer at the stadium?

Will anyone stop purchasing jerseys and NFL licensed gear?

Face it - the only way the league would change anything is if it damaged their revenue stream. Unless any of the above three took place and took a considerable impact to their bottom line, don't expect the league to steer away from the direction they are going.

I hope you see the irony in this entire post.

I'm pretty much only outraged because this probably means 2010 all over again-- subjective penalties that referees only seem to enforce when Dallas is the possible offender.

Frankly, I love this idea. Imagine every single player on the field breaking out in a Harlem shake style dance after every play. Would be absolutely hilarious.

Until the fines started being given out.
