Yup, what we need in the draft is RB, NT, linebacker, and guard (especially since Martin probably retires after the season). Jerry doesn't do anything in FA as it is, but we need to be a physical team. Now, instead of possibly getting Jeanty who can likely make us a much better run game, we probably need to try to trade back (if we manage to pick top 10, which we probably will regardless of this trade) so we can try to get more players. Jerry, instead of using his head about how we can tank and make the team more competitive next season, is trying to salvage a car that would currently cost more in repairs than to just rebuild it.
as regards what we need this off-season, a WR is down the list. DT, RB, G, T are all greater needs.

My thoughts: Mingo is the WR4 behind...Lamb, Cooks, and Tobert and they are limiting reps or giving up on Turp (at WR), Brooks and Flournoy.

You can say it's a next year move then you have Lamb, Tolbert and Mingo...I don't know about you but looks terrible to me.

Glass half full perspective...I do like the bigger body WR, now pair Mingo with Flournoy and the Cowboys have decent size at X . Hopefully these guys can help block in the run game. Cowboys should really push to develop Tolbert, Mingo and Flournoy the rest of the season.

CZ poster Majic questioned if this type evaluation and decision is being made then what about draft evaluations and decisions as well.

I responded with I wonder where McClay stands in all of this.
Cuz all of a sudden everything Cowboys related is looking like the Mazi and Schoon draft.

Wow, I mean talk about trending downward.
Just unbelievably pathetic.

I don't like it, primarily because of the weight of the pick given. If this had been one of the later 5ths or preferably a 6th I could see it for a flyer in 2025 but a 4th is a lot of value and could be more considering how the season pans out.

At this point it's likely that the Cowboys pick high in the 4th round, almost surely top 10 and perhaps higher. Consider also the Cowboys own currently five fifth round picks one of which will be their own and also high in the round. The Mingo trade removes the 4th from ammo to move around if a impact player slips in a round.

With the 4th they had ammo to package with a 5th or two to play into the 3rd if they needed someone. It also removes a package to possibly add value to trading with their 3rd to potentially go into the second, and then package the 5ths to get back in the 4th for a late rounder.

So I don't hate taking a chance on a young guys with good measurables that can work into 2025 and beyond, but he's not worth the points value of the pick considering how high in the round the current projection has the Cowboys going.

Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but I really think the Cowboys would be better served trading away players to get added points for the draft rather than giving up points when a lot of positions are needed.
Probably Jerry thinks we are going to turn the season around and it becomes a late 4th!

I’ll sum up my thoughts like this: If Mingo was cut and we picked him up for nothing I’m not sure I’d be all that excited About it.

Do not like the move at all. Jerry got fleeced. Dak, is headed for the IR heading into a matchup with the Eagles. We are sliding is an understatement in the standings; we need to play our younger receivers that Jerry is high on. This is not the same team Rush took over before. I can see at the draft one of the top receivers there for us to take a Jerry takes a pass because he likes our guys. We should be dumping vets not buying.
I agree, the timing is strange and bad. Why not just play out the season and evaluate what you have

That is just it. A fourth round pick is too high for a player that was in the doghouse for the worst team in the NFL. It’s sad that most teams make minor trades for better players and Jerry gets taken for a 4th round pick that we fans will be wishing we had when a running back or cornerback is available in next year’s draft in the 4th round.. Like Lance there will be undo pressure on this kid to perform. I am waiting for the Dez or Deebo comparisons from Jerry during his next radio show. Jerry is doing anything he can to keep the Cowboys relevant and when the Giants get their franchise quarterback the Cowboys will be the worst team in the NFC East. Just embarrassing……
Timing is very strange. Why acquire someone for the future now when the qb is out? Also, why give away a 4th rd pick to do so? I like the player, but timing and cost is very strange

2 1/2 seasons left on contract and has had over a year development. 6’2 220 4.46. Even if they just use him in a Deebo esq manner screens, wheel routes out of the backfield and quasi RB with Lamb on the outside drawing constant double teams he has more upside potential busting up some of the zone coverages than any 4th round receiver coming out.
Or, he's the Mazi Smith of wide receivers.

It was a terrible trade. He’s not worth a four at the deadline to anyone but the cowboys.

Compare the trade of Diontae Johnson by the same team to this.
You got to factor in the contract, but do agree it’s an overpay, should be for a mid to late day three pick

Overpaid.

I am having Trance flashbacks.

At least Mingo will have an opportunity to step on the field.
Definitely an overpay, but he has talent. Much rather trade a late day 3 pick for him. Timing is also strange, why now?

He looks like an X but he does not play like an X receiver. He's more of a big slot. That's assuming he can even play at all at this level.
Jury still is out on him, change of scenery was needed.

He is giving what he fans on here want. Never give out big contracts. Well he did to a player that did not deserve one. What around 40% of the cap.
Therefore the need to pay young players on cheap contracts. Save it all for one player. That disappears in the playoffs.
Dak is 17% of the cap this year and will never be close to 40%. Next year will be the highest at 32%.

Incompetence. I have my doubts that the front office offered more than a 5th comp pick for Mingo. I believe Carolina said no and Jerry said give them the 4th after he came on his radio show and said we were going to get a receiver. Jerry is full on Al Davis now. I hope we don’t trade Parsons now because someone will take us to the cleaners.

Could be, but for only a 4th for a receiver with his measurables, over 2 years left on contract, and According to Adam Thielen (teammate) work ethic just yesterday it’s well worth the the risk!

This isn't a now move, but more towards the future. Mingo is very raw, but does possess elite athletic traits. He could potentially become that X receiver we lack. By trading for him, doesn't exclude the team from drafting another high receiver this year. Probably overpaid a little, but they are banking on his upside. I really liked him in the draft 2 years ago, has some Dez Bryant qualities, but he is more in the Jalen Tolbert level right now and won't make a big, immediate impact.
he had 12 receptions for 120 yards....and this is going to be a high 4th round pick when good players have often slipped and to be found in the draft.....

this was a pure pure marketing move by Jerry to show he is all in and he is doing something....

this move was stupid and a move of desparation!!!! the idiot
