Hey GB. I know this wasn't for me,but there were plenty (maybe 15-20%) that had him out of the 1st round. I looked into it long ago.
I think, for starters, OurLads and 2-3 NFL.com writers (including Daniel Jeremiah)

By far the majority had him in the 1st though.

Ourlads has him going 14th.

Daniel Jeremiah had him going 13th before all this stuff happened with him.

And Garrett will likely have issues ever cutting ties with Doug Free and Marinelli the same with Nick Hayden.

I think they drafted Chaz Green to be Parnell's replacement this year, and Free's replacement next year or the year after that. I wouldn't be surprised if Chaz Green is put on IR at this point.

Their plans took an interesting turn when they were able to get Collins, but now they're just in a situation where they have to decide what to do with Leary.

They have a lot of depth at Tackle, even if Weems doesn't play out. The only problem is that depth isn't ready right now. Green and Gibson both have some potential for us, but I wouldn't be surprised after getting Collins, if we drafted another offensive linemen early next year.

Also, they've kept Hayden hungry giving him 1-2 year deals, but you see them trying to reduce his role in the defense. I think they're waiting for players they can develop at defensive tackle to come to fruition here.

Ken Bishop, Davon Coleman, Chris Whaley... Terrell McClain...

I wouldn't write anyone off at this point.

Many of the local media are at TC and the radio shows broadcast from there. They tend to have good info that does not always make it to articles/blogs.

McFadden really wants to return to practice but Stephen Jones prefers to keep him on the PUP until he is 110%. It appears that Stephen and front office types are holding McFadden out while some coaches are pushing to get him back on the field.

Randle didn't show up for a scheduled interview. They teased the upcoming interview with Randle for several segments and then Randle didn't show.

As the Cowboys flagship station, guys from the Fan have access to the practice video (the coaches video, not the stuff that we get to see) and a guy that spends a lot of time studying it had some good observations. He said Collins needs work and that Leary is a beast. The chance of Collins beating out Leary is very near zero in his opinion. He said the praise that you hear about Tyrone Crawford in not hype and that Crawford looks terrific.

That's impossible. Ronald Leary is going to be traded for Peterson or benched. I read it here.

I am on record saying I want to retain Leary. Because of his "knee".....a 3 year extension would be great. This line is young. They have continuity. And I would love for Collins to be the RT of the future.

He is a restricted free agent next year, so they can keep him through the end of 2016 with no problem.

If they cut Free after this season, his contract would end up as a 1 year, 6M deal.

I really thought they would have Collins practice at RT with Green out. It seems that if they don't have Collins practice at OT, then they might need to get Martin ready to play OT just in case. Putting everything on Weems does not seem like a good plan. Maybe they think Gibson or Wetzel could play OT this season, but that seems doubtful.

Kinda curious what we'll end up doing with the swing tackle on game days. While Weems has been the best of the bunch, it has more to do with his competition being hurt or too raw. Considering that there will be only 2 backup linemen each game, what are the odds that either Collins or Martin are the back up RT and Free plays LT if Tyron comes out. And before anyone says it, yes, Weems at LT would be worse than Free.

One argument is if one player goes down, you are weakening only 1 position, while everyone else stays where they normally line up.

But activating Collins on game day over Weems, likely means a lesser drop off if he comes in, unless it's Tyron Smith.

Still early in camp, and I do think we will see Collins and/or Martin get reps there.

Crawford will be a pro bowler this season barring injury. The guy has top notch explosiveness for the position and very strong for his size.
Can't wait to see them run a front of Hardy, Craw, DLaw and Gregory on passing downs. Good luck to whoever is trying to block them.

In a radio interview, Martin implied that Crawford is at least as difficult to block as Hardy and maybe more difficult.

Making the pro-bowl will be tough, lots of talented and productive guys who already have made pro-bowls at his position.

I agree completely and to counter people who would make that argument, I'd say it doesn't quite work like that especially with what we have to work with.

Let's say this

Tyron Smith - 10
Ron Leary - 8
Travis Frederick - 9
Zack Martin - 10
Doug Free - 8

So let's say that moving Martin to tackle makes him a 9 at tackle, instead of a 10 at guard and La'el Collins is a 8 at guard and a 6 at tackle.

I'd rather go with

10-8-9-8-9

than

10-8-9-10-6

I would have sworn I heard somewhere that they plan on giving him reps at tackle later, but I didn't get the whole story, could have been complete conjecture.

Either way I wouldn't rule it out. Right now he needs as much experience at guard, which is likely to be his position.

 Really? smh

Come on, dude! The guy has not even been through a camp and you see bust?

I want him to do well but invariably there are about 10 first round busts. Wouldn't you say? Dallas basically got 3 first rounders this year. 1 of the 3 probably won't turn out to be as good as his college scouting report would have you believe. He hasn't set the world on fire like Martin Fred or Tyron so I'm just putting the pieces together. Apparently his feet are too slow to play tackle. I wanted him to replace free.

Collins has two issues that probably slow his development.
1. LSU rarely threw the ball. In the games I studied he was run blocking about 9 times out of 10.

2. He always played on the left at both LG and LT.

He likely needs a lot of practice reps in Pass Pro and would also need a lot of reps if they moving him to the right side.

Nothing has been proven about his foot speed. That is all coming from one source.

He likely needs a lot of practice reps because LSU rarely threw the ball and had a simple offense. He was obviously going to look bad at RT in OTAs because he never played on the right. The Cowboys originally played Flozell Adams at Guard to allow him to adjust to the NFL before moving him to OT. He ended up as a 5x Pro Bowl player at OT.
