Tight End Speed

They all run faster than 82, probably even in his hay day. I'm not concerned about the TE's on this team at all. I'm thrilled that we're actually going to evaluate them in TC, for once in 14 years

Nope. Witten ran an official 4.65. He just slowed a bit after five years...and then a little more over the next 5 and then a little more...Finally retired as a turtle.

Everyone was calling him the next Jason Witten before the draft. He was by far the most complete TE in the draft but never had a chance to show it. I get to see a lot of Pac-12 football here out west and the Cowboys got a steal with Schultz. I was hoping the Cowboys would draft him and Witten would be his mentor for a year. I'll take one out of two though.
Some scouts have him rated as the best tight end in the draft

LOL in 10 years people will have stories saying Witten ran a 4.3

The crap said about legendary players is hilarious and how it grows over time.

Nope. Witten was slow but he knew how to get open and caught most everything thrown his way. Plus you could always depend on him to move the chains and block for the running game.

There were 45 tight ends who had at least 200 yards receiving last season. According to the NFL's Next Gen Stats, Witten's top speed with the ball ranked 27th out of those 45 -- or a little below average. Among the tight ends whose top speed was slower than Witten's top speed were Kyle Rudolph, David Njoku, Jack Doyle, Cameron Brate, Marcedes Lewis, Antonio Gates, Martellus Bennett and ... Rob Gronkowski.

By the way, Swaim's top speed would have tied for 21st. Hanna's top speed would have tied for 36th.

He is. Some people just want to look at the stats without having any clue as to what Schultz was asked to do in a run based offense. I'll say it now. Shultz is one of the steals of the draft. He would've been the first TE off the board had he had a chance to show off his offensive skills. The Cowboys got lucky that he fell into their laps.

And moved the chains back when he regularly jumped off sides.

Witten was a 3rd round pick, he was a steal as well.

Interesting.

So this is speed tracked via field sensors?

So this is speed tracked via field sensors?

From NFL.com: "The Next Gen Stats platform captures real-time location data, speed and acceleration for every player, every play on every square inch of the field. Sensors throughout the stadium track tags placed on players' shoulder pads, charting individual movements within inches."

This is why it's good to put the calculator down, get out of the house and date women once in awhile.

If anyone believes Saint Jason Witten was a faster player than Rob Gronkowski or David Njoku you are beyond irrational.
