Tim Tebow a Cowboy?

A better comparison for Timmy would be Ken Dorsey/Jason White. Other "Winners" who were great in college and never made it as a pro.
The excessive Tebow love make me grind my molars to powder too, but he is a much better athlete, competitor and prospect than either of these two.

We laugh at the over the top lauding, but he is the real deal from a leadership perspective. I think he'll land somewhere and stick provided he goes to a team that is willing to take their time with him and doesn't expect him to sell tickets right away. A place like Jacksonville or St. Louis would be a disaster for him. An established contender would be optimal. And no, I don't want him in Dallas as I do not think he fits. We do not have the setup to make the pick worthwhile.

If he gets with a patient and effective QB coach he'll probably prosper. He has the right mental framework to lead. That is half the battle right there.

I haven't read all the posts so maybe somebody mentioned this but...if Tebow wants to be a QB he needs to go someplace that is set at QB for a few years while he learns the game. Like Aaron Rodgers waited behind Brett Favre.

Teams like Indy, NE, NO, San Diego can all afford to take a flyer on him. If Dallas didn't have a project in McGee already, then Dallas would make some sense.

I also think he's make a pretty good special teamer, running down on punts and KO's.

Why do people make fun of Tebow for crying? I don't get it. I wish every single player we have or ever plan on having would have that kind of passion towards the game. Heck, there are fans on this board who have admitted to crying after games. While I have never personally cried after a game, I wouldn't put it past me, especially if we were to win a superbowl. I don't know, something about cracking on Tebow for crying doesn't make sense to me...maybe it's just me
Nobody cries over passion for the game only. They cry for the people they play with and the city they play for. I'll make fun of him because he looks like he's forcing it...and I don't like him :laugh2:

Ill admit that he's a gret competitor and college football player though.

Best tears in sports, no doubt, Mark Messier when he retired. Awesome.

I'd throw my remote if we drafted him at any point. He'd be a total remote thrower!

I think we have other areas to address and backup QB is not one of them.

I agree completely. We have many more needs than getting Tim Tebow.

It's the Rivers comments that blew me away the most. It was a flip of the coin on who should be the 1st overall pick...Rivers or Manning.
Actually, if you look back, it was Manning or Roethlisberger. The talk was maybe Pittsburgh would take him because the assumption was Ben and Eli would be gone. I can even remember an interview Rivers did on the Dan Patrick show before the draft. Patrick was saying if the Steelers took him, Phillip should change his number to 3 so it would say 3 Rivers on his uniform.

They both were considered outstanding pro prospects that required nothing more than pro experience.
Yes, Manning and Roethlisberger were both considered outstanding prospects. They were both considered "Franchise QBs" in the making. The Chargers on the other hand already had Drew Brees so they took a flier on Rivers as a maybe. Don't forget, the only reason Brees was let go was because he injured his shoulder the last game of the season in 05.

There were detractors early on regarding Rivers--in part because he had so little exposure at State compared to a guy like Tebow at Florida. But once the scouts saw Rivers up close, all of those questions were answered.
That was my original point. Untill the scouts saw Rivers at the Senior Bowl and the subsequent pro days and workouts, he was considered a mid round pick. MAYBE a second round pick.

Maybe Tebow can help himself at the combines. I like him on a personal level and as a leader. Right now, however, I do not think he would make a good NFL QB. I hope he developes into one someday.
That is were Rivers made his money so to speak. Only time will tell with Tim Tebow.

I will say I like him, I think he is a young man of great character from all I have seen him do and heard about. It is good to see people like that in sports. However Dallas has other areas of this team that they need to address and frankly even if we were in need of a QB Tebow (as well as most top QB's in this draft) would not be high on my list

How glad/mad would you be if the cowboys ended up getting Tim Tebow? Personally I think he is a great guy but i dont think we should get him there is no area that he could help the cowboys in.
It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they signed him as an undrafted f/a!! ;) I wouldn't burn a draft pick on him...

Nice trade by San Diego. The got Philip Rivers, Shawn Merriman, and Nate Keading for Eil Manning. I'm sure the Giants are happy too.

I don't recall QB being a need. We won't take him, so this is pointless to debate.

What's wrong about it? That it's all true? It's not my fault that I just have a better memory about the 04 draft. Not that it's important mind you. Info like that just sticks in my memory when I like a certain player or players. Followed that draft and the lead up to it because I was hoping we could somehow get Manning. I know, I know; it seems crazy now, but not in 04 when our hopes were pinned on Carter (before he was canned of course), Testaverde and Henson. Plus, none of us knew we already had a franchise QB on the roster.

I think you are talking about Rivers pre-combine and all-star games while I am talking Rivers on draft day. By then, he was right up there with or slightly behind Manning--and the draft played out that way.

Yes, that's it on the nose.

He would probably be a good fit in New Orleans as fourth rounder. Lord knows what gimmick plays Peyton could cook up for him on a part time basis and he would have no pressure to play because that city loves Drew Brees.

Tebow will be a Jaguar...Book it!

I personally like Tebow a lot...but I think he will play as a Wildcat QB, not as a starter in the NFL.

The guy is a football player though...And there is no denying his leadership and drive. But Dallas isn't interested in him as a first round pick, so there's no point in speculating about him being a Cowboy.
Here is Vic Ketchman's review of Tebow on Jaquars.com
Vic: I offered my opinion on Tim Tebow as early as three years ago and I’ve never wavered. No matter how many times I repeated myself, the questions kept coming. What more could I say? What we saw on Saturday in the Senior Bowl is a player who is woefully flawed in his quarterback mechanics. I’ve never seen a quarterback take as many false steps. The crazy part is that Urban Meyer is one of the finest offensive minds in all of football, so I refuse to believe they didn’t try to fix Tebow during his time at Florida. Any team that drafts him is looking at a reconstruction project. How long will it take? Can it even be done? Is his talent great enough to be worthy of the time his reconstruction will require? Those are the questions a team wanting to draft Tebow must answer.

I said it in the draft zone too.

Trading our pick(27) for the Jags pick (10-12) makes a lot of sense for both teams. They get Tebow plus #59 and another pick, we hopefully get Anthony Davis or maybe Mcclain, Dez Bryant, or Joe Haden.

They are NOT taking Tebow that high...come on. They need help in plenty of areas (pass rush, interior Oline, safety), so why would they pick a risky, developmental player in the 1st (or even 2nd or 3rd) round?

Now they may make that trade for other reasons...I could actually see that happening. Just not for Tebow.

I'd love to have any of those players that you mentioned.
