They should have just kept Dez on the Franchise Tag. They could have done it 2 years in a row. He could not have held out long if at at because he would be out of money. Stephen wanted to play hardball with him but Jerry caved.
How often do guys perform well under franchise tags?

Jerry caved because after allowing Murray to walk he could ill afford Dez holding out for even a couple of games and enter the season without two of his top players from 2014. The fear of getting off to a bad start to the season without both players got Jerry to give in.

Exactly. He had no leverage in the negotiation. I don't know why they caved.

Dez was threatening to miss some regular season games and with Murray lost to free agency Jerry caved. He knew he was going to have to pay him eventually and after a solid 2014 season he felt like he had a contender and didn't want to risk entering the season without Dez after already losing Murray. He did allow Murray to walk so we could pay Dez.

Since that contract was inked.....

22 games have passed
42 receptions
551 yards
4 TDs

He should be fully healthy now. It's time for him to prove he's in the elite class of receivers in the NFL.
I believe Dez is past his prime. He and his fans just don't know it.
His inattention to rules (meetings) is another manifestation of a diva complex.
Once he told us he'd be our 2000-yard receiver. All talk and less than anticipated production.
And it would help if he had better hands.
He's plateaued with us, mates. He's our mini Romo with diminishing returns and a high cap value.
The Cowboys should and will improve the position without this expensive diva.

Dez benefited a lot from the number 88 and the comparisons to Michael, but he's always been a very good player. He was elite when he was catching 16 TDs or whatever in a season, but he hasn't sustained that level of play. There still ought to be no doubt, though, that he's a special player and a game breaker when he's on the field. And the apparent dislike for him from a statistically significant percentage of Cowboys fans over things like rental agreements and kitchen accidents is just weird.
or it could be that he just isnt on the field much anymore and fans are over it. doesnt always have to be a difficult thing to understand. its usually very simple. Some people just see whats on the field and get used to it and dont worry about what or who isnt on the field. Just like teams, fans move on with whos on the field.

Antonio Brown had 7 catches for 106 yards yesterday against NEW ENGLAND with Landry Jones throwing him the ball.

Elite receivers find a way.

You see these receivers without Romo -- Miles Austin, Patrick Crayton, Laurent Robinson, Sam Hurd -- and you just hope Dez isn't a Romo-created receiver like so many others.

How was the Landry Jones/Vick to Brown connection last year? Do we get to discount Dez;s 100yd game against Wash?

Recency bias is a powerful thing, for sure. I'd just like to give people more credit than that, I guess.

Bryant can still be an asset. The Club has proven that it doesn't need him to win. That alone could improve his attitude and keep him quiet on the sidelines etc etc. That will boost the team concept and team spirit.
Dez will never be quiet lol.

in 1992 michael irvin held out along with jay novacek and mark stepnoski.

Irvin's yardage total and TD's went down in each of the 3 seasons after his contract season in 91.

Did jerry get forced to pay him to because he had no leverage?

Michael Irvin threatened to take a job at fox 4 and work in the sports department until someone paid him fair market value. Don't recall dez going that far. When Irvin returned after signing late everyone drove him nuts about being rusty and missing timing.

Guess they should have let irvin walk too. Dez has been injured and the offense was a mess last season when he did return and play hurt. I can't believe how foolish fans of this team are.

Dez isnt worth the drama on the sidelines and the injuries on it IMO. I think alot of people are going to be in for a rude awakening when Dez comes back and they expect 60% of the targets going to him. This team has evolved around the concept of team. Instead of a group of players who all want to be the alpha. This team is so much better then even just 2 yrs ago.

Drama on the sideline? sorry I have no issue with WR's on sideline being passionate and often times what people see and what is actually being said are 2 different things. According to those on the sideline Dez words are that of encouragement not divisive. I expect a lot out of Dez and maybe that is why I have been riding him lately but I not against him and I know he can bring another element to this offense.

Anybody that judges Irvin by TDs is clueless. Irvin's job was to get them close and then Emmitt and the OL would take over and run it in for the TD. It was a running joke back then about how often Irvin would get to the 1 yard line and then Emmitt would get the TD.

That is true on many of the Smith TD especially the year he put up 25 TD a lot of those were inside the 5 yard line as a results of plays by Irvin.

It was uncanny. Aikman would hit him for 98 yards, and he'd get tackled at the one.

But Dez was going to be fined quite heavily if he missed games.

well if you are going to call me clueless that is fine. The actual saying was that aikman would get the ball to the one, not irvin. Harper and irvin used to get them inside the five all the time and then they wouldn't throw because of how good emmitt and the running game was.

to the bigger point I was making however, Irvin had a monster season in his contract year in 91 then didn't match those stats again until the 1995 season. People are attacking bryant for this same thing but Bryant has been hurt and lost his qb, the offense was a disaster last season. four db's four rb's etc...

its premature to get on bryant and its pointless to try to emphasize last seasons stats when he never was healthy except for the first quarter of the first game.
