Time for Dez to prove he's still elite

He had a 100 yard game with a backup QB in this season.

The backup QB he had a 100 yard game with as a rookie was an aging backup who was nearing retirement. At least he scored a TD in that game and made a great 46 yard play instead of several routine catches where we made a concerted effort to get him the ball. Our backup QB this season is our next franchise QB and currently Dez is the most expensive decoy in the league.

Good argument.

I make good arguments and Dez looked better "as a rookie" with old man Kitna than he has the past 2 seasons. Jerry has become so frustrated he made a comment after the opener in which Dez had a career low one catch for 8 yards and said he wants the ball thrown to him even when he's not open.

That would probably be Ryan Fitzpatrick. He hasn't been hurt, he just flat out sucks now.

Huh? Fitzpatrick never played for the Cowboys, I'm talking about Jon Kitna.

I was talking about the decoy part. And actually, with the news that Geno Smith tore his ACL, looks like they'll be forced to use him again. And obviously Dez has been hurt, so I don't see how previous years when he wasn't applies to the current situation. I like having an offense that spreads the ball around. With our ground game being so dominant, I wouldn't expect to see repeats of previous years where they target him 12-15 times or anything.

The best arguments. Everyone says so.

Beasley has become our best, most valuable receiver. We've won 3 straight games without Dez, we would have a tougher time winning games without Beasley.

If I didn't make such a good argument, you would have been able to respond with something better than that.
Yeah I mean you said he doesn't do something anymore. I showed how that was false. And you said that does not count because it didn't fit your standard for excitement. Then you complimented your tortured logic. If you're not careful you're going to have to break out your list like you did the last time the team spoiled your fun by winning.

He wasn't hurt in the opener when he had a career low one catch for 8 yards. The Dez is hurt excuse is getting old. If he doesn't produce next Sunday night the injury excuse will continue. He was healthy in the 2014 playoffs and all he came up with was 6 catches for 86 yards and we spent the entire offseason talking about a play he didn't make. He dropped a TD pass in the opener that would have been difference but again he couldn't complete the process of making a legal catch.

With Dak at QB, Dez won't be targeted as much because Dak has said he's going to throw to the open receiver. He's not going to take as many chances as Romo did throwing jump balls to Dez. Romo is a gunslinger who's willing to risk picks for TD's. Dak protects the football better and doesn't like throwing picks.

Since that contract was inked.....

22 games have passed
42 receptions
551 yards
4 TDs

He should be fully healthy now. It's time for him to prove he's in the elite class of receivers in the NFL.
He'll probably have a stretch of games at some point where he looks really good, but something will likely happen and he'll dissappear when they need him most.

You didn't show anything I said to be false. I was making a point that he doesn't make as many big plays as he used to make. Start naming all the "big plays" he's made the last 2 seasons? This is what I said.

Dez found ways when he first came into the league. He had his first 100 yard game with Jon Kitna at QB in 2010. He made some spectacular plays as a rookie with Kitna. He had catches of 41 and 46 yards in back to back games with Kitna. He scored at least 3 TD's with Kitna. Dez was doing things as a rookie that he's not doing now, which is what's so concerning about his play. He was even able to play with some injuries early in his career and play well.

If he gets a 1000 yds this season, I'll be happy. He just needs to get back to elite production status.
Currently he's ranked #139th in the league with 150 yds, and Julio Jones is numero uno w 830 Yards.
I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that if he applies himself, he can make the top 40 by the end of the year. Then approach next season fresh, and try to reassert himself as a top 10 WR in this league.

His injuries have derailed him, and probably is a great source of frustration to himself as well as the fan base. It's on him to prove that the contract extension wasn't a mistake. I hope he proves the naysayers wrong, and if not trade him.
He can be part of the number 1 offense in football, he can put us in a position to be number 1

Some of this goes to Dez. Same goes to the coaches. They need to be better getting him involved.

Can the coaches prove they can use an elite WR?

That's one game. It happens. And breaking your leg isn't an excuse, it's a legitimate reason.

so wait you're acknowledging that dak isn't going to target him as much, and admonishing him for not having a bunch of catches. got it. just want to be clear.
