Stoops- just does not make me think he can really do it at the pro level. More of a feeling then anything else. Not much I admit. Of all the current college coaches that we could maybe get- the Boise State coach (who schooled Stoops BIG TIME) would be my pick if I had to go that way.

Yeah, but that was without his brother Mike.My post is contingent on that premise. They worked excellent together at the college level.Seperatley they both had a drop off.Bob is an excellent head coach and I believe Mike is an excellent defensive coach.
Mike Leach is if nothing else ,a very creative offensive mind, and succsessful.

He got schooled,I will give you that at least on a couple plays. There are coaches that get schooled all the time. That doesn't take away from the fact that in my opinion it was one of the most exciting bowl games I have seen(one).Exciting translates into enthusiasm and people believing.I am an avid O.U. fan and was not upset over that loss as much as I enjoyed the game. That highlight play would have schooled many coaches. The players were the ones who really got schooled.

If you could get all three and it was clear that Mike and Leach would be running the game, then I could see it. What I wonder about is how good of a talent spotter is Stoops?

I've said this all off-season

HC-Ron Rivera
DC-Mike Singletary (unless Lebeau or Rex Ryan are available)

Thats a good thought. If our D collapsed with those two on the staff, we might as well just fold the franchise as its never going to work out. Singletary is one to watch as a HC candidate.

RIvera with Singletary as a DC; hmmm. lots of potential there. Certainly would be an AGRESSIVE DC.

Not arguing that we have a problem. The question is- what is the solution. And that is why I keep asking- name a name.

I know who the solution ISNT, and thats the real problem

the guy we have now is NOT going to get the job done

people need to quit with the "yeah but who is better" line, because honestly just about ANYBODY can do what Parcells is doing today...if his name wasnt Parcells, would anyone be wanting him to stay? seriously...if his name were Norv Turner or Rich Kotite would ANYONE be singing our coaches praises and talking about all the "progress"??? I think not

the game has passed Parcells by...we get outcoached badly by virtually every good team we play...we had one of the most embarrassing months in franchise history...the defense is a joke...the OL is mediocre at best...we havent improved one iota over the record he did his first yr...we havent won a division title and we havent won a playoff game...

people have too much fear of the unknown...just because we get a guy who isnt Parcells, doesnt mean we're gonna fall flat on our face and be 1-15

yeah Singletary in my mind will one day be a Great HC but he's not ready yet and he would have a perfect opportunity to learn from a great defense coach in Rivera till he is ready.

Main reason i wanted both of them. Those who talk up Merriman because of all his sacks would finally either their words about Ware with someone like Rivera and Singletary. Ware would Easily get 13-15 Sacks and thats Without the steroids ;) :D

Great post David. Some people just can't see the forest because the trees are in the way. For guys like us, it couldn't be more obvious.

Sure its so obvious to those that already had made up their minds. For those with a willingness to look at it from all points of view, its not.

I've had 4 years to make up my mind. So I did. That is just my opinion. 4 years to look at it from all points of view. 4 years of a proven track record. In a very average NFC this year, we were insignificant. Is that good enough for you?

My first choice would be either Rex Ryan or Russ Grimm. Yeah, I know Grimm played for the Skins but I could care less as long as he gets the job done. I'd love to see Pepper Johnson and Mike Singletary on the staff in some capacity. And I wouldn't mind Norv tutoring Romo.

Why one of these two? Because I want a fiery young coach who prefers an agressive 3-4 defense and emphasizes the trenches. Grimm has the added attracton of being an ex-offensive lineman and coach of one of the best offensive lines in the league for many years. I'd like to see the OL be a priority. Ryan is rough and ill-tempered. His defense plays the most agressive, physical brand of football in the league. I want that in Dallas.

I don't buy the argument that "No one has interviewed Ryan so he must not be head coaching material." No one but the NYJ interviewed Mangini last year, either.

As the replacement for BP. Stipulate now or next year. And give reasons and evidence to support your pick.

Beast will play.

Tuna is not getting the job done. After 4 yrs, we are barely above .500, have a pair of one and dones, and have zero division titles.

This is failure my friends.

Do I know for a fact that the next coach will run off 12-4 records each year, no. We may in fact get worse, nobody knows for sure. However, we know that what we have is not working, so a change has to be made.

There are not a lot of options right now, however I would pick Fisher next year. Fisher gets the most out of his players, actually played in the NFL, and learned defense under Buddy Ryan. The Titans are always gamers, and their decline after the SB run was due to horrendous cap management and a cheap owner in Bud Adams.

So my pick is wait till next year and get Fisher.:)

Whenever...it all depends on BP:

The only guys I'd be excited by from college are Pete Carroll & Chan Gailey.

The only guy I'd feel comfortable with in the pros right now is Norv Turner.

I know people will say I'm crazy, but Norv Turner is a great coach who did great things with a young QB in Dallas, was pretty successful with a team in Washington, and is doing great things with that offense in SF which was dead last season. His only failure was in Oakland, and I think we've seen enough in recent years to give him a pass on that. I like the idea of a guy who's proven himself with a young QB and running offenses.

I also think a great deal of Chan Gailey...coaches don't always do great in their first head coaching job. Gailey is another brilliant offensive mind who knows how to put points on the board, and now he's had more experience at Georgia Tech...he came in a little hamstrung with the aging and injured Dallas superstars who balked at a system change even though he had them putting up 30some points per game before the wheels came off. For those who want to keep making fun of him just because the team went from Chan to Campo, Chan Gailey was more successful in one season in Dallas than Parcells has been in 4. Chan Gailey actually won the NFC East in his first year as coach and was fired for an 8-8 season after that with extenuating circumstances.

I'm sure there are excellent coordinators who who would make great head coaches, but I don't know them, so I have to throw out the only names I would be comfortable with. I see absolutely nothing to get excited about in Jeff Fisher or some of the other retread coaches who haven't shown me anything exciting.

One of the guys some would consider would be Russ Grimm...but I say HELL NO !!! Having to endure a NY Giant coach in Dallas has been sickening enough for me...Jerry Jones would deserve to have his new stadium disappear into a sink hole if he ever hired one of the freakin' HOGS from Washington, no matter how good he might be.

I agree with Beast in that ultimately Jeff Fisher would be my first choice as well. However since he is under contract and only a hypothetical at this point I choose Rex Ryan and here are the reasons why:

1. 44 years old. So he is not retiring anytime soon.

2. He knows the 3-4. This team needs some continuity in that respect.

3. His units have been successful in every stop. Baltimore have been among the best defenses every year he has been there regardless of injuries and personnel changes. Oklahoma ranked sixth in the nation in defense while he was coach in the late 90's.

4.His personality easily translates into being a head coach and he commands the respect of his unit. This from Ray Lewis:
Linebacker Ray Lewis isn't ready to see Ryan move on, however:
"I've lost Marvin [Lewis], I've lost Jack [Del Rio], I've lost Mike Nolan. ... I ain't losing Rex." Lewis then added, "Anyway, I told Rex I'd kill him if he left. He asked me if I was serious and I stared at him, did my pre-game Ray-Ray dance, and then walked out of the room. I don't think he'll be going anywhere."
That kind of loyalty and respect is what you need in this day and age of the NFL.

If Ryan brings in a top quality OC....I think this team doesn't miss a beat.

Having said this I would be ok with Parcells coming back, if and only if he brings in a DC with the experience to run the 3-4. One of Bill's problems seems to me is that he is overworking himself, taking far too much responsibility and leaving nothing for Sunday's.

Cam Cameron (whoops...he's gone)
Ken Whisenhunt (whoops...he's gone)
Russ Grimm
Ron Rivera
Hue Jackson
Bob Bratkowski
Jim Schwartz
Tony Sparano

College Guys...

Jeff Tedford

No affiliation...

My buddy's aunt...she has a meatskirt just like Parcells and she's probably meaner and definitely more interested.

These are names...you're welcome to pick them apart. I'm not sold on the current incarnation of Parcells, so I'm ready to move on.
