You used him as an "example" based on his play in Super Bowl XXVII, so it's a Yes.No..
I used Novachek as an example.

Lol I heard he's a bit of a loner on the team and nobody really likes him.L.P. Ladocouer
Next question...
I guess I know nothing.
Witten was done 6 years ago.
Yes he is.
I have loved his play early in his career.
But I can' t deal with his liabilities.
Giving him his money out of senitentality is crazy when we are supposed to be making a SB run.
We constantly want to compare ourselves to the Pats.
They trade or release players before they decline.
We hold on to players.
Jerrah thinks this is the right thing to do.
Nuts.
His $8 mil would help find defensive help we need and I doubt any falloff in play with Swaim instead or somebody else.
We have 3 Pro Bowl OL and an All Pro RB.
If they can' t get the job done without Witten..
we are doomed anyway.
He's leaving.
Man you guys would still be saying that if witten was a paraplegic. Is this the thread where I bash our HOF tight end? Count me out
I always thought that of Bennett. For whatever the reason, we've stunk at developing te's and wr's the last 10 years. Coaching? Scheme? All of the above.
No..
I used Novachek as an example.
But do you pay $8 mil for basically a blocking TE with occasional 5 yd receptions.
He falls down after the catch usually.
Whats that?
I would let him go and retire.
Hes going to get like 30 catches this year for 300 yds maybe.
Like we don't have the players to do something more productive with his touches?
Time to make a few tough choices in the off season.
Yet another “dump Witten” thread...how original.
Witten no longer does this.
Its been said this is his last year and the team is going to pay his $8 mil as a goodbye gesture.
We desperately need production at TE going forward for the offense.
The backups are strictly blocking TEs.
A true pass catching TE is on the menu.
...
I know some think Rico Gaithers is the answer but I don't see him being able to stay healthy.
He's an experiment that has failed.
This team doesn't give their (even high draft picks) TE's a chance to get on that field and freakin' play!
It is time for Witten to go he is a progress stopper at this point. To be honest we dont know what we have in tight ends because all the guys we have never get a chance to play because of Witten. But your right, Dallas needs a guy that can be dynamic and make big plays at the TE position. Witten has been reduced to another short yardage option. He is also getting too many holding calls!I'm sitting home and brought up the SB XXVII we won against Buffalo first time around.
Jay Novachek just killed them.
Able to get downfield..
able to shake off LBers and safeties.
Witten no longer does this.
Its been said this is his last year and the team is going to pay his $8 mil as a goodbye gesture.
This makes little sense to me.

Does this draft have such a player and when would we take one?
I know some think Rico Gaithers is the answer but I don't see him being able to stay healthy.

The chances of drafting a good WR at #1 seems remote.
But TE at #2?
What say you.
Who?
He has film on an nfl fieldYep. Remember super speedy receiving TE James Hanna? Spends his days blocking.
Speaking of speed, I've seen 40 times for Rico all over the place, from 4.66 to 4.8. I sure hope it's the low side.

Looks fast to me. And it’s more about change of direction/power and agility than speed with tight ends. Gronk isn’t a speed demon and neither is Jimmy Graham.
