Today in Strangeness: June 17th...

The Statue of Liberty, a gift from France to the people of the United States,
arrived in New York City's harbor on this day in in 1885. The dismantled 151 ft. statue
was enclosed in more than 200 packing cases. On June 17, 1964, a floating trade fair from
Japan docked in London, featuring such futuristic products as a telephone booth that
transmitted pictures.

It was on this day in 1964 that the TV show Twilight Zone aired its final
episode on CBS after a five-year run. The iconic series, hosted by Rod Serling
(who wrote 92 of its episodes) was known for using sci-fi to relay strong social
commentary. TZ had a healthy afterlife in syndication, and spawned two TV remakes,
and a feature film.

Odd Stone Circle Spotted on Mars:

Anomaly hunters scouring NASA images for oddities believe that a strange circular
stone pattern found on Mars might be a sign of alien life. The remarkably round formation
was noticed in a photo taken by the space agency's Mars Curiosity Rover. What makes this
particular find unique, in a sense, is that most anomalies spotted by rogue researchers resemble
something from here on Earth, but this discovery is simply a circle of rocks that leaves the observer
to decide its true nature.

Abraham Lincoln's mother died when the family dairy cow ate white snake root and Ms. Lincoln drank the milk.

John Dillinger once broke out of a federal prison by making a fake gun out of soap. He carved the gun with a plastic spoon he stole from the cafeteria and used shoe polish to paint it black. The guard, thinking that the soap gun was real, gave Dillinger his own gun which he knew was loaded. Dillinger was then escorted by this guard out of the prison. Since then, lots of other inmates imitated that same gun to escape prison. Below is a wax figure of Dillinger with soap gun & another prisoner with hers.

On this day in 1893, Lizzie Borden was acquitted of the murder of her parents.
Jaws , the movie by Steven Spielberg that made countless viewers afraid to swim
in the ocean, opened in theaters (1975), and "Price is Right" model Janice Pennington
was knocked out by a TV camera while taping the show (1988).

...a childrens song...

"Lizzie Borden had an axe
She gave her mother 40 whacks
When she saw what she had done
She gave her father 41"

Slew of New Exoplanets Found:

NASA has provided an update on the Kepler Space Telescope's search for exoplanets and
the total number of new worlds discovered is staggering. The space agency announced
since their last briefing on the landmark device, Kepler has found an astounding 219
potential new planets, including a tantalizing ten which are thought to be around the
size of the Earth and also reside in an orbit, known as the Goldilocks zone, that is
believed to be the ideal spot for water, and thus life, to exist.

As the benchmark yardstick has always been 60 thousand years for ' modern man',,, so, the Darwin crowd lost huge chunks of turf there
