Difficult one really.

I do not think Romo should be in the Hall of Fame.

He didn't win a ring but in my view, I highly doubt any other quarterback would have done so given the teams he had:

2007 - Crayton hesitated on his route otherwise it's a walk in TD to beat the eventual Superbowl Champions. A team needs everyone doing their jobs to at least a solid competent standard to win big games in the clutch moments - e.g., go ask Eli about David Tyree.
2009 - offensive line crumbled vs the Vikings.
2014 - even allowing for the Dez catch, the defense was garbage and they couldn't have won it all that year any way.

He's essentially penalised for getting into the Hall of Fame largely because he didn't play on teams that were loaded. Same goes for other quarterbacks - unfortunately, that's just the way it goes. Further, he also played at the same time as peak Brady, Peyton, A-Rod, Brees and Big Ben.

I don't think I would put Romo in what I would have as my hall of fame. I would have a much more exclusive hall of fame.... but I tend to think it is now the hall of very good and I think he has a real case for that. His argument...

- The same completion percentage as Peyton Manning, 65.3, tied for 10th all-time.
- His 97.1 passer rating is the ninth-best in league.
- His 7.89 yards per attempt ranks eighth all-time.
- His 2.12 touchdown/interception ratio ranks 15th all-time.
- From 2007 to 2016, he led all quarterbacks with a 103.5 rating in the fourth quarter or overtime.
- His 23 fourth-quarter comebacks and 27 game-winning drives from 2006 to 2014 ranked first for all quarterbacks.
- For his career, he ranks 17th in fourth-quarter comebacks.
- Best 4th quarter passer rating of all time.
That’s especially true when he will be inevitably compared against the 36 quarterbacks who have already been enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Only three quarterbacks who didn’t reach the Super Bowl in the Super Bowl Era have ever been enshrined – Warren Moon, Sonny Jurgensen, and Dan Fouts.

And when you compare Romo’s numbers against theirs, it doesn’t fully stack up. Moon, who played 17 seasons, threw for 49,325 yards — 15,142 more than Romo. Fouts, who played 15 seasons, threw for 43,040 yards — 8,857 more than Romo.

Jurgenson, whose stats are most similar to Romo (32,224 yards and 255 touchdowns), might be the one that voters compare side-by-side when discussing Romo.

That said, Jurgensen is recognized by many as the finest pure passer of his time, and Vince Lombardi, who coached him in Washington in 1969, is on record saying, “If we would have had Sonny Jurgensen in Green Bay, we’d never have lost a game.”

Honestly?

I wouldn't select any of them.

I can't count a single Super Bowl ring on the entire group of quarterbacks. A few of them got there and watched Tom Brady or another hoist the Lombardi. That's about it.

His numbers are on par/better than Kurt Warner's.
Yeah, but if he had come out on fire that year he replaced Bledsoe, much like Warner did with his opportunity, you can bet that he would be a lock for the HOF. Instead, he is remembered for a fumbled FG snap. Thems the breaks.

I'll take Tony in his prime over Brett Favre any day of the week. I remember when Troy and the Cowboys beat the Packers 8 straight times in the 90s before the teams became a shell of themselves. I remember in 2007 thinking Tony would do the same thing had the Cowboys remained good over the years. But they didn't.
Uhh.... no. He may have the same gunslinger tendencies, but there was no cannon for an arm or longevity. And for all his faults, Favre still won a Super Bowl and went to two of them.

I think if Tony could have stayed healthy he's have a better chance. He played the equivalent of 8 full seasons worth of games because of injuries. Still is 25th all time in TDs. Not too shabby.

HOFer Dan Fouts has just a couple more TDs and played in Air Coryell passing offense for 14 years. Romo had more TDs than Steve Young (14yrs), Donovan McNabb (11 yrs) and Jim Kelly (10yrs). All pass happy offenses.

Can you believe Joe Montana (15yrs) only has 25 more TDs than Romo?

And Joe Namath is in the HOF. 62-63 record 50% career completion % and almost 50 more picks than TD's. But he won a SB.
Sorry, but generations matter. I agree that Air Coryell would not be as impressive in today's league, but neither would half the HOF defenders who only had to worry about 230-240 lb offensive linemen. Just matters where you were at in NFL history. Both Moon and Kelly are not as likely to get in with their Run n Gun, but for its time, it was a first. And sometimes that's all that matters.

Archie Manning is NOT in the pro football HOF. He is in the college football HOF.

The NFL HOF very much values winning particularly among its QBs. If you don't have a ring, you better be Dan Marino or Fran Tarkenton level and have a legendary career. Romo did not. He was never a top 5 NFL QB. His stats are a product of a pass happy era and QB protection rules.
Uah o was like ummmm no he's not in the HOF.

If a cannon of an arm meant anything, Demarcus Russel would be hall of fame. Favre was one of the most reckless QBs I've ever seen with the ball. He got to two SBs because he had fantastic teams around him. Tony, not so much. Favre needed a great team to get out in front and prevent his awful hero ball.

Never once did Favre come back from a 14 point deficit in his entire time with the packers in the regular season. Tony did it in his first start.

You're not going to convince me to take Romo over Favre. Appreciate the fan loyalty, but... no.

I'm not trying to convince. People usually don't change their minds on stuff like this. I'm just trying to tell you how much I dislike Favre. Not him personally, his style of play. I am so happy he was never a Cowboy.

QUARTERBACKS (10): Marc Bulger, Randall Cunningham, Jake Delhomme, Doug Flutie,
Rich Gannon, Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb, Steve McNair, Tony Romo, Michael Vick.

Of this group McNabb would likely have the best shot. Solid career stats and played in the postseason quite a bit, including in a Super Bowl and a couple of other NFC Championship games.

But I think he's far from a lock. He's already been eligible 6 years.

I think McNabb will probably get in at some point, but I suspect that while Romo, McNair & Cunningham will all be talked about for yeara, none will ever get in
