if you value winning then you absolutely trade him if you are offered a 2nd. In fact, I would say the reason we have a million 2nd round TE's was in planning to trade Witten.

You lose when you keep someone past their prime. You overpay for under performance.

Let him go while he is still decent if you can get a steal.

2013 Pass Rating by Target (Romo only)
Witten 61 of 93 716 yd 8 td 0 int 117.5
Williams 42 of 69 679 yd 5 td 2 int 105.9
Bryant 85 of 142 1150 yd 12 td 3 int 105.1
Murray 48 of 55 311 yd 1 td 0 int 96.3
Beasley 38 of 49 361 yd 2 td 2 int 94.0
others 68 of 127 611 yd 3 td 3 int 64.8

DeAndre Jordan, CLAC47.645
Stephen Curry, PGGSW43.446

The first guy dunks and shoots layups and the second guy shoots long 2s and 3 pointers thus the field goal percentage difference.. The farther the pass attempt the more difficult it is to complete it, a 5 yard pass to Wittens doesn't travel as far as a five yard pass to Dez because of were they are located on the field.

A 3rd round pick?? Yeah that makes a lot of sense, trade one of the best TE's ever for another Gavin Escobar or some scrub DB.

You're think with your heart and not your mind, KC did it and have recovered nicely. When you're making this type of decision you have to think that the years that made him a HOFer are behind him and you did pick a TE in the second round. I'd do the trade, most competent GMs would.

Jace Amarro or Jason Witten? Seems easy. #1. Fresh tires.

It's seemingly the talk of NFL podcasts and draft websites with plenty of teams likely to desire his services and us desperately in need of cap space. So, would you do it? If so what would it take? I think a high 2nd rounder would be enough given this draft class. He'll be 32 at the start of next season and can't have many more seasons left in the tank.

For a 2nd? Absolutely! No GM would be that stupid, though.

If you can get anything for the older guys (Ware, Witten, Romo, etc...), I'd take it in a heartbeat. None of them are the solution, they are just part of the eternal 8-8 quandary we find ourselves in. We desperately need to get younger (like we did in the early 90's).

Trade Witten then finish burying Romo.

His QB production will drop.
He won't make it through season.

That was a contract driven decision and Tony G made it clear he wanted out. At that time he was the 2nd highest paid guy on the team and wouldn't take a pay cut. Imagine if we had a TE under that kind of contract who all but came out publically and said he was ready to move on.

High pass rating wins football games. Throwing longer passes which may or may not be caught does not.

Witten's numbers for the whole season (including the last game when Orton was QB):
73 of 109 851 yd 8 td 1 int 111.1

The thing that matters most is the 109 targets and the 111.1 rating. If one of those guys you mentioned can match that rating on that many targets, then fine. Just know that there were only 2 other TE and only 5 WR in the entire league who did it in 2013.

I bet if you look at Reggie Bush or LeSean McCoy rating it would be pretty high also. If all you have to do is have a high passer rating to win games then why would you ever throw deep? How about this stat 26 out 30 for 130 yards, do you think that a team can consistently win with a stat line like that? That's what happen when you don't get the ball downfield, imo Witten should be your third option on most passing plays but most of the time he's the first. If you told the Skins that either Witten or Dez is going to have 10 catches they would pick Witten 10 out of 10 times.

I remember a game, I think in 2007, against the Lions where they took TO out the game by doubling him. Witten had about 18 catches for a little over 100 yards and they barely won.

Nah. Unless you get a really good deal I'd say no. Now if Hanna and Escobar can look better then I'd be listening.

If Hanna and Escobar were schemed properly to be put in position to get downfield and make plays I think a lot of people would be listening.

30 attempts for 130 yards is 4.3 ypa. Witten's targets averaged 7.8 ypa.

With a TD/INT ratio of 8/1.

Imo you're not going to be explosive offensively with Witten getting that many looks, he just doesn't do much with the ball after he catches it.

I believe I said this in the "trade ware?" Thread as well: as long as he's a top 5 team jersey seller he will stay

I would take a 2nd round pick for either Witten or Ware...................however, I doubt anybody would offer us that much.
